Dear Katherine Weyhaupt, Practice Manager I am following up regarding our phone conversation last week. During our conversation, you advised me that you would speak with a Dr. Michael Czeschin, DMD at the practice and get back to me regarding my concerns. I am writing to respectfully follow up, as I have not yet received a response. I am requesting reimbursement for the $300 I paid out of pocket for my recent visit. My concern is primarily the lack of communication regarding the visit being treated as a patient-pay expense. Had I been informed of this in advance, I would have had the opportunity to make an informed decision about whether to proceed with the appointment. I understand that patients with in-network insurance benefit from negotiated rates between their insurance providers and the dental practice. I also specifically asked on August 5 whether a reduced rate could be considered, but I did not receive a response to that question. I believe it is important for patients to be informed of their financial responsibility before services are provided, particularly when a visit will not be processed through insurance as the patient may reasonably expect. In my experience with healthcare providers, insurance information and expected patient responsibility are typically confirmed before treatment. I have been a loyal patient of South Hampton Dentistry for many years and have always valued the quality of care I have received, particularly from your hygienist. Had the circumstances been communicated to me beforehand, I would have been willing to discuss a self-pay arrangement and would have continued receiving care at your practice. I hope South Hampton Dentistry will take these circumstances into consideration and work with me toward a fair and reasonable resolution. I would appreciate it if you could review my request and let me know how you intend to address reimbursement of the $300 I paid. Thank you for your time and consideration. I'm so glad I found Southampton!! I had such a smooth experience from start to finish. I called and was able to get an appointment within a couple of days thanks to some last minute cancellations. The check in process was seamless and the receptionists were very kind and helpful. The hygienist who took care of me, Lindsey, was great! Dr. Harmon was professional and personable. Saw Dr. Jines years ago for a root canal. He made repeated sexually inappropriate comments about my appearance, and made a "joke" to his hygienist that he was going to "roofie" her 19yo daughter at her bowling alley birthday party. I could not let him finish working on me and found a wonderful dentist in Kirkwood who helped me out. Jines is a messed up dude, however jolly and competent he may seem. read more

I had a bad reaction to the dugs administered, felt like my throat had closed up. I couldn't breathe. The assistant was so rude tried to say that was normal. I've had dental work before never felt like I couldn't breathe. She tried to give me water I was like no. Needless to say I didn't finish with them. I didn't think I would get the best care there. When I asked about having the tooth extracted the assistant said ugh let me go get the dentist. Going to the dentist is already nerve racking, she made it worse!!! read more

Good quality dental care at affordable prices. I have a mouth full of dental work from when I was a kid. Fortunately as an adult I have very little in the way of issues. I grew up with a mother that worked as a dental lab tech and she was pretty picky about dentists. This carried forward with me. Having shopped dentists in several cities I was thrilled to find Southhampton Dental on my 2nd or 3rd try once moving to STL. I've had dentists use all kinds of technobable mumbojumbo to sell me dental care I didn't need. I've had upsell artists and conartist denists insist I needed $2k in work. Then 6 months later I would go for a cleaning somewhere new and the dentist wouldn't find any issues. One guy wanted me to drill out all my old fillings that are amalgam and replace them with porcelain fillings. Because I was being poisoned by mercury in the metal fillings. Its been 15 years since that guy and my fillings are still just fine. You won't get any of that BS at Southhampton. The hygienists are thorough and care is solid. The facility is clean. They do what it takes to make things comfortable. They're honest. They have your best interests at heart. Also don't forget to floss. :) read more

We get it, if you have teeth, you need a dentist. Honestly, for me, it had been a MINUTE. Recently I decided it's time for me to start adult-ing and find Julia R. and I a fine dentist. I turned to no place other than Yelp to find Southhampton Dental has 5 stars and raving loyalty from their patients, so we gave it a shot. Once we arrived, we checked in and the extremely kind person at the window forgave me for accidentally forgetting my first time patient paperwork at home. Who does that?! (Leave it to me). After that, we only sat for about 5 minutes until they promptly called for us at the time of our scheduled appointments. I was super impressed by this. Jennifer, the dental hygienist, who cleaned on my teeth was super helpful, kind, and informative. (And totally chill that I hadn't been to the dentist in a while... Who doesn't love a non-judgmental presence?) If that weren't good enough, when I arrived home I was so happy with how freaking clean my teeth were. Some of you are probably thinking, "Meg, that's what happens at the dentist..." I know this, I just thought my teeth could never look to clean! Yay Jennifer. The dentist was super awesome also, straight forward and in-and-out! Everyone of the staff we met was incredible and inclusive. I just had my second appointment at Southampton Dental and, so far, I'm still a fan. Choosing a new dentist is incredibly hard because there are some really bad ones out there, but based on other Yelpers I chose Dr. Jines. I've had two cleanings there and no issues. The office seems up to date and very clean. Dr. Jines is kind of a character - I'm not even really sure how to describe him. Very nice, talks a mile a minute, and gives a very thorough check up of not only the teeth and gums, but my whole head. He did all sorts of prodding and checking and pulling to everything above my neck. Interesting. I've had the same hygienist both times. At my first visit, it was one of her first days at the practice so I was a little worried about getting a newbie, but she seemed to know her stuff and was very gentle during the cleaning. She's also really nice and I point this out because I've had some very snooty hygienists over the years. At my last appointment, I did have to wait almost 40 minutes before getting in, but I'll cut them some slack on that since they were closed the two previous days because of snow and were doing a little catch up. Still, in the future I'll stick to the first appointment of the morning. My only real complaint is that I didn't see Dr. Jines at all on my last visit. The hygienist made a comment that I didn't need to see him since I saw him last time and I find that extremely strange. I'm not totally comfortable with only getting face time with the actual dentist once a year. I'm sure the hygienists know their stuff, but I'm really paying to see the doctor. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience for my first visit! I was hesitant because I just found them through my dental insurance website and they were able to get me in for a same day visit (which was great!). The front desk lady was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I didn't wait more than five minutes after I arrived to be seen. The entire office was super clean and organized. And my hygienist (Laura) was phenomenal! All staff was very knowledgeable and comforting. I highly recommend!! read more

My experience with the staff at Southampton Dental has been the most positive and painless dental experience I've had in Missouri. The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating which to me - is everything as a patient. I'm extremely happy with my choice in trusting their staff with my care. I am another Yelper that found this dentist's office based on Yelp reviews. Yay Yelp! I had been avoiding the dentist for a long time...it had literally been 6+ years since I had been. It was one of those things where I didn't want to go because I would be lectured on not flossing everyday, and I was ashamed for having waited so long to go, that I just waited longer, and it just spiraled. I wish I could remember my hygienist's name (it's been about 6 months so I'm fuzzy on details - eep, time for another appt soon!) but I was very pleased that she did not judge me, which was my biggest fear. She understood why I hadn't been in so long, and though she did say, "Yeah, you need to be flossing, and here's why" it didn't feel like I was getting slapped on the wrist like at other dentists. The best part though, was that she was incredibly thorough. It sucked because...it was pretty painful, not gonna lie, but she sweet-talked me best she could through it, and I know my teeth have never been cleaned as well as she did it. She literally spent about a half hour working on my teeth. I really appreciated her taking the time to work on my teeth the way they needed to be worked on. She was also sweet as pie. Don't let the pain part scare you - it was only like that for me because I literally haven't been since high school! And even if you're in the same boat as me, it's not that bad. Especially because you know you're finally getting your teeth really well taken care of. Dr. Jines also pointed out that if I start going every 6 months, it will be a short five minute sort of thing because the years of buildup had been taken care of. Dr. Jines was very pleasant - seemed a little rushed, as most healthcare providers are, but I could tell he knew what he was doing, and I didn't feel like he didn't care about me as his patient. The coolest part was that not only does he check out your teeth and gums, but he does a whole assessment of your cranial nerves, thyroid, and cervical lymph nodes. Nurse Christine is impressed. I pointed it out to the dental hygienest and she explained that sometimes you will find a person who, for whatever reason, goes to the dentist but not the doctor, and she says Dr. Jines has actually found patients with undetected thyroid issues and the like. Really interesting. In addition to the dentist and the hygienist, the front desk person was also very helpful and friendly - this is all around a great office. I highly recommend. read more

I am definitely one of those people who put off going to the dentist for YEARS (4.5 to be exact). I've had a lot of bad experiences with the dentist so I was super picky in deciding which dentist to go to in St. Louis. I am SO glad I chose Southampton Dental! First, their staff are amazing!!! I found the front desk staff to be super inviting and friendly. Furthermore, I absolutely loved my hygienist. I hadn't had my teeth professionally cleaned in 4.5 years (gross I know) and it was still a SUPER gentle cleaning. Not painful at all, which really says something given how long since my last cleaning. I also loved that my hygienist didn't rush or lecture me. She was super friendly and considerate. Second, Dr. Jines is amazing! He does a really thorough job and goes above and beyond other dentists. I think this is due a lot to his MD training. In addition to checking your teeth, he also examines your lymph nodes and your thyroid gland. I agree with other previous reviewers that he's definitely a character. He talks a lot, which I enjoyed because I can't stand when people ask me questions while their hands are in my mouth. He also was super thorough in explaining all of the procedures he did and their importance. I ended up having two cavities and filling them wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. For one of them, I didn't even feel the needle when he numbed me. It was as painless as a filling can be. Finally, the location is great. It is directly in between I-44 and I-64 on Hampton....making it super easy to get to. The only downside to this dental office is that it is SUPER popular (which isn't surprising). It took about 3 months for me to get an initial appointment. Other than that, I can't really think of any downsides. The place is super clean and, as noted before, the staff here are amazing. I'm not a big fan of going to the dentist....in fact, I'm a great big chicken, but I really love this dental office. Dr. Jines really does a great job w/ putting me at ease, and I've had 2 root canals and really no pain. He is always entertaining to listen to as he works away, telling me about the latest movies and whatnot. The dental hygienists are also very nice and caring. Highly recommend! read more

5 more stars for Southampton Dental! Like 99% of other people, going to the dentist is not really my favorite thing and it's been about 2 years since I've been. Thankfully, Yelp pointed me in the direction of Dr. Jimes. When I first called, it was going to take awhile to get in to see him for an appointment, so I toyed with the idea of trying to find someone else. I'm so glad I waited. First of all, the hygienist was wonderful. Since you spend most of your visit with the hygienist, it was great to have someone so thorough, friendly and comfortable. (Or as comfortable as you can get when someone's hands are in your mouth.) She's also getting married next month, so congrats! Dr. Jines was also really informative, extremely thorough and you can tell he's really passionate about his job. Of course we've all heard that we need to floss, but I've never had a dentist really take the time to explain why oral health is so important and its connection to your overall health as well. I know that might seem like a pretty obvious thing, but I feel extra inspired to take good care of my teeth and gums. read more

Kelly / Kathryn just expects you to know if you miss appts that they will no longer see you. I called over a week ago to be told by Kelly she would return my call, a week goes by , I called again today and left a voicemail , still no call back and when I called and asked did you receive my voicemail- Kelly said yes we did. I am guessing she just wasn't going to call me back. I have had a decent relationship with this place until I was just expected to be there with COVID-19. Dawn and the dentist were amazing. Kelly on the other hand- Just down right unprofessional and not helpful. These folks don't even care that I would drive over a hour and being in and out of the hospital and missed two appts before COVID-19. She could not even answer my questions... Better to move on from this wack o place. read more

I have been in the St. Louis area for years and tried many dentist. Dr. Jines was recommended by a friend. I'm so glad I found Southampton Dental. When I started going there I was impressed with Dr. Jines thoroughness and pragmatic approach. He didn't try to sell me on any cosmetic dentistry as other dentist's had. I have had a LOT of dental work over the years but Dr. Jines said, "Your own teeth are better than any composite teeth." - or maybe he used the words "plastic teeth." He always checked my tongue and throat and neck and head for health reasons. No other dentist I had did that. I really miss Dr. Jines who has retired but now I've also seen Dr. Harmon and Dr. Mike. They are both very nice, kind and helpful - although the tongue, throat, and neck checks seen to have disappeared. I've had a root canal (I told you - lots of dental work) by Dr. Harmon. He made me comfortable with the process. Now I know it's not as bad as it sounds. The staff is friendly and helpful and works with my insurance company and keeps me informed of costs. I feel like they advocate for me with the insurance company. I like that they call me with a reminder a day or two before my appointment. The hygenists have always been friendly and gentle. They recognize me when I arrive. I highly recommend Southampton Dental. read more

I love this dentist's office, and I have referred multiple people to Dr. Jines. I heard about Southhampton Dental from other Yelp reviews (thank you!). When I was looking for a dentist, most of the offices I called had extensive waiting lists. Fortunately Southhampton was taking patients and Dr. Jines accepted my dental insurance. :) Since becoming a patient in the fall of 2011, I have gone in three times: a routine cleaning, wisdom teeth extraction (2 teeth), and a follow-up appointment. All three times I have been extremely satisfied. Perhaps I am one of the lucky ones, but the wisdom teeth extraction caused me little pain. I received a local anesthetic and laughing gas, and that was enough to put me in a great mood. Dr. Jines was very thorough and even explained what he was doing throughout the procedure (although I did not care at that point). After the procedure, Dr. Jines even called to check up on me. He did this on Friday, which I though that was pretty cool since the office is closed that day. As other Yelpers have mentioned, the cleanings are very thorough. Dr. Jines moved my tongue and did some fancy head/neck massage to check for potential throat and neck cancer. I had never had a dentist do this, and I thought it was rather neat. Overall: Dr. Jines is great, and all the the hygienists have been friendly and helpful. And the woman who works the front desk (I should know her name...) is amazing!! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Jines since 1991 and have never considered going anywhere else. Not only is he very knowledgeable and trustworthy, but his experience is unbeatable and his lively personality makes the "chore" of seeing the dentist easy. I actually look forward to the cleanings and consultations because I know I'll be getting quality care and friendly service. The hygienists are knowledgeable and very friendly while also being very good at what they do. Dr. Jines doesn't b.s. you about work you may not actually need nor does he convince you to spend money you don't have. He's honest about the condition of your teeth and gives a fair, concise explanation of what exactly is going on in your mouth. I'm new to the area and seem to be in the minority in that I love going to the dentist... Getting my teeth cleaned is right up there with spa services for me, I love and miss that squeaky clean feeling! I was really looking forward to finding a great new dentist. I called twice, once around 1pm on 1/22/13, again just before noon on 1/23/13. The first time the receptionists were at lunch and a very polite woman stated that they couldn't come to the phone, so I offered to call back. When I did, the receptionist was incredibly curt, to the point of frank rudeness, and seemed as though I was inconveniencing her greatly. I scheduled the appointment, thanked her, but then couldn't shake her rudeness and decided I'd rather find another dentist than deal with this rude woman for the rest of my residency/time in St Louis. To be fair, my one-star review doesn't, nor should it, reflect the skill of the dentist... But when running a business one should be keenly aware of what first impressions you are making to the public. Big miss. Very disappointed. read more

its all about the staff. the receptionist is BAD. i was there today and its the last time i will take being blamed for missing a cleaning. the last time i left, i had three lower teeth extracted. see, i didnt know this, when i called to tell her i was going to be ten minutes late she(receptionist) informed me that they only had me down for 30 minutes. so i cancelled my client at salon, and rushed right over. then i m ambushed with three extractions which i wasnt prepared for. i of course concurred with the dr. and gave in. i had clients scheduled for after my 30 minute apt which turned out to be1.45 hours, left with a mouth full of gauze and blood, so my four and five o'clock apt i had t reschedule because the receptionist lied to me. she also lied about CALLING OR GIVING AN APT CARD. so i get a letter saying i am no longer welcome since i missed an apt that she scheduled for me. i wasnt notified or even aware of this apt. so when i was there today i sat in the waiting room as a tall attractive worman, very professional looking came in to speak with the office manager. hopefully, she will be a replacement for the trainwreck of a job the receptionist is doing now. as for the doc, hes a wonderful, personable and great dentist. however due to the receptionist, the face of the business, ill have to give it a definite on star. read more
