I have found two varieties that do well in planters. Portulaca, also known as Purslane, does very well. It comes in various colors and fun fact; you can eat it. Add the blossoms to salads or eat it right out of the planter. Check it carefully before you pop it into your mouth. Sometime there is extra protein hiding in the blossoms. The other plant I am having great success with is Pentas. They are tough and hardy. An added benefit, they attract butterflies. I think both of these plants could be classified as pretty weeds.
