It was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. For the most part, she received quality care. It was the horrible care she received an acute care facility, that motivated me to pursue a career as a health care advocate for seniors. The seniors without family and friends received subpar care and treatment. I was at the facility daily and had to pull teeth to insist on her getting the bare minimum care. My employment background is mostly in transportation and finance. I cared for my mom and received a 40 hour a month salary for 24 hours a day care as an IHSS provider. I wanted to expand my resume and become a Certified Nurse Assistant as well as a Certified Home Health Care Provider. My goal is to have a few clients to assist from home to the hospital. I needed an online school that would allow me to have days free to address probate, financial and grief therapy concerns. I googled CNA schools in the Riverside county area and selected McKallen Medical.The knowledge I obtained at McKallen not only broadened my natural patient centered care instincts, it provided me with additional tools, resources and knowledge that has opened my heart and soul. I enrolled in the CNA course 4 months after my moms death. I was stuck in the bargaining stage of grief. I was being triggered by some of the lessons. It was a daily barrage of " if I could of, would of, should of" mental gymnastics. Logically, I knew that I did not have the knowledge to know what steps could have made a difference in my mothers care. However, in the midst of grief, you are filled with guilt and despair. After my first week of theory, I notified administration and told them I was struggling with the course. Tre Green, was not only understanding, he was compassionate and empathetic. He advised me to take as much time as I needed and pursue the course when I was ready to move forward. Eventually I re-started the course with Instructor Mary Montantes-Peck. She was a SUPERB INSTRUCTOR. She is passionate, knowledgeable and engaged. She is the prime example of passing on to others what she embodies as a human being. I am a firm believer that we give to the world, the skills, values and growth mindset that we have. Mary's knowledge about resident/patient care comes from a deep compassionate core. Alex Portillo, the clinical instructor, was great as well. Alex made what could have been a high stress environment into a calm, smooth and knowledgeable experience. There were a few issues with the skills lab training, so this is the reason for a 4 star review. Overall, I had a wonderful experience. I am deeply grateful and appreciative for what McKallen Medical Training provided. I would highly recommend the school to all potential enrollees. Just go in with an open heart and mind and you will reap the benefits and rewards.

I have taken other BLS classes were all we did was watch a bunch of long boring videos and it didn't really prepare me for the hospital setting. The BLS course with UCR ASO instructors was more hands-on and the class was fun! The best part about the course is the staff actually prepare you for the real-world and you get your certification card as soon as you complete the course. The classes are hands on and you actually get to learn and apply skills taught in class. All the instructors make learning it fun as well as keeping it serious and it's great to see other students this involved in the health-related fields. I like how they kept it clean and organized. You first wait in the break room and they have water dispenser with both hot and cold water. You may also help yourself to some fresh fruit, tea, coffee, and other snacks. It's a cozy break room with comfortable couches and chairs. The bathroom is also neat and clean. The staff is very welcoming and hospitable. I took the PALS class and Alex was my instructor. It's your standard class with book and videos but what I like about Alex was that she stopped each video to see if we have a questions and she also reviewed whatever information was pertinent to the video. Alex was patient and did not make us feel stupid at all. She encouraged us to remember the information and did not rush us to answer any questions. When I answered questions incorrectly, she politely corrected me. Another great perk about this place, it's near a lot of restaurants, both fast food and dine-in. I highly recommend The SG Center.

I signed up for an early Saturday BLS class that supposed to start at 8am. So I got there at on…read moretime and the door was still locked. So I waited for 5 minutes, and no one answered the door as I consistently knocked on the door. So I waited for another 10 minutes. I figured I'd give them 15 minutes before I called the office's number. I finally called and I was told that their computer some how did not receive my registration...but interestingly enough received my credit card payment lol. So I was told that the instructor (which I think is the owner) will be there at 9 am. So I tried to not be as upset and tried to make my day better by going to a local fast food and get myself come coffee and breakfast. Then I came back at 9 am, and I was greeted by the instructor and he told me that he was sorry that his computer in the office some how did not sync with the website registration. Then he said that he will give me 10% off for the inconvenience (which will show on my bill as a credit). So I accepted his apology and his discount. However, as I was about to begin to class, I realize that he is the only instructor there and he was instructing one other customer in a different room with a different class. So he was walking back and forth...back and forth. To his credit, he did a good job juggling the two classes and he was still able to teach me a few new things in my BLS classes. He then told me that he didn't have the manual book that I had purchased with my registration. Low and behold, about 2 hours in...his little daughter came in the office and brought him the manual book. I thought that was kinda funny. By the way, what made me to write this review and give it 3 stars is not the fact that they were late for an hour. It's not that they were not professional by having the whole family working rather employees. It''s not that there was only one instructor running back and forth and juggling the two classes simultaneously. But it's the fact that they didn't credit my 10% discount. I called him 3 weeks later and left a message, never received a return call from them. I checked my credit card, and haven't gotten the credit. So there you go.....
