I gave 5 stars because it was worth the wait. I was not in a rush. My husband and I are in a hotel outta town. So, I wasn't in a hurry and I wanted a snowball. But the wait was VERY long. I saw while waiting possibly 30-45 min at least 3 - 4 cars leave from waiting. Maybe they were short handed. This was my first time. I hated it for them to lose the business! Im all for small businesses. I would hope they would also figure a way for better parking/drive thru. Because their business could double or even triple! If they had someone taking orders outside and getting it to the workers inside could make it faster. They were very friendly and seemed to be working as fast as they could. Also when I got my snowball, medium size, they gave a regular short spoon. A long one was really need for this size. But it was my first time, maybe they were out? Would I go back? YES! Ordered chocolate ice cream with a dipped cone.... After waiting awhile, this is what they handed my husband. I would have said something but they handed it to him fast and shut the window. It's a huge no for me. I'm a New Orleans native so I've had some of the best snoballs ever so I'm just keeping it honest as i try to do in every review. I ordered a cotton candy snoball with condensed milk. I asked them to give me a larger cup because i was alone and didn't want it to spill in my car. And whatever flavoring they used was horrid. They also made it extremely mushy as you can see in the pictures which is not how it's supposed to be when you first get it. It was very sloppy and i guess asking for the larger cup threw them off or something i don't know. I skimmed the top after taking one bite then stuffed napkins in it because it was so yucky and i couldn't eat another bite. Remember i got it in a larger cup so what you see in the picture is nearly all of what i purchased and what i also threw in the trash ugh! Totally ruined my day and appetite. Since Pelican's Snoball closed I've been trying to find another spot. But haven't had much luck. I also had a similar less than pleasant experience at another snoball stand in Slidell so I'm convinced they just may not know how to make the way the New Orleans natives do. So I'll just have to stick with my go to New Orleans spots to get a good snoball. I pray that they can get it together but i won't be back to find out. read more

The family and I have tried almost all of the snowball stands in the Slidell area, and by far this is the one we all agree we like the most. Not to mention the convenient drive through but the snowballs are really good. They have no problem in making it easier for my kids to eat by replacing the smaller cup to a more larger one "No Spill in the car" lol. dont expect managenent to help you with your horrible service and impossibly long wait times im talking 20 minutes for a 4 cup order! No napkins like melted icecream all over my seats ! Dumb not worth the wait there are better snoball stands where ever you are it would take less time to wait for winter and catch snow in a cup and tap a tree for syrup! 5 customers were served while i watched my overpriced banana split melt in my lap. The rest of the snoballs were half filled and the syrups are watered down. SAVE yourself the headache go to Southern Sneaux because southern delights are simply a dissapointment. read more

I gave it 3 stars because the wait in the drive up is 10min+ and I had a chunk of ice in my snowball. I don't ever mind waiting but I'd want my ice smooth and consistent. Southern Delights may be the best snoball stand in Slidell. It's definitely my favorite on the North Shore. Slidell wasn't even on our itinerary this trip but I couldn't be that close to SD and not stop. It's just one exit off I-12. At the split, we took the 1-10 towards New Orleans, got off at Gause Blvd. and a mile later we were in snoball heaven. The heat was sweltering and the drive thru line snaked almost out the parking lot. It's a popular summer destination so that's to be expected. When another customer pointed out that there was no wait at the walk-up window we parked and got out. They had at least seventy-five flavors to choose from and about a half dozen of those were sugar-free. They also had a separate menu for young children (displayed at thigh level) featuring fun flavors like The Dinosaur, Little Pony and Toxic Waste. My mouth was watering for a Bubble Gum with extra gummy bears; the boy wanted Tigers Blood. We opted for the smallest size (kiddie) to avoid any unscheduled restrooms stops on our trip. Although it didn't come with a peaked top it was still plenty of snoball to enjoy. There is nothing more thirst-quenching on a hot summer day than a snoball. And at a price point of $1-3.50 per treat, it's a complete steal. I'll gladly take the off ramp for Southern Delights again and again. read more

Here in Slidell most people call this place "the little blue house". They shut down in winter and when they open up in the spring you know it because it is always packed! They have a small parking lot and it fills up quickly. It's not uncommon for customer's cars to be lined all the way up Broadmoor Street. There's also a drive thru. They sell snowballs which are the best in Slidell. They also sell a variety of ice creamy goodness. The Gator Blast is similar to a Sonic Blast...ice cream of your choice blended with candy or cookies...but way better than Sonic. Their prices are slightly higher than Sonic's, but worth it. Another awesome thing...they sell Randazzo's King Cakes here!!! read more

We have frequented this snowball stand a few times. I am very sad to say we will not return. My husband visited this stand to get 2 snowballs; one for him and one for my toddler son. Upon receding the snowball, he noticed that it was really dry so he asked for additional juice. The lady at the window got frustrated and told him that she will have to charge for every juice. Charge for extra juice??? When the snowballs were almost white from being dry?? I've NEVER heard of being charged for extra juice and I'm from New Orleans. They always give you extra juice no charge. Mind you, this is AFTER he had paid $4.35 on his card (with $1 tip) she was so rude that he just requested a refund. They refunded him $3.45 in cash. Kept the tip. This place is AMAZING!!!! If you haven't tried it then, it's time!!! They have stuffed snow balls with ice cream, cream flavored snowballs, snowballs with candy, snowballs with condensed milk, you name it, they got it baby!!! This is a locally owned and operated stand that has been open for many years! I've been coming to this place since I was a kid after school with my grandma! The prices I don't think have changed and the sizes are huge!!! They are so delicious I have to cheat and come here at least 3-4 times a month during the summer to last me the rest of the year!!! Their hours vary and the line is sometimes very long but it's highly worth the wait! Any size you want, get the next size down because they always give it to you in a bigger cup! Working at a flip house in Slidell, my family decided to take a break and have snowballs close by. Although Southern Delight was several minutes away, the reviews were fantastic so we went. We waited 30 minutes just to barely move up in the drive through. There were approximately six or seven cars in front of us and at that rate we was not going to get snowballs anytime soon. We left and went somewhere else. We drove by southern delights to see the wait and only 2 cars left by the time we came back. I know with Covid they have limited employees but that can be a little extreme in their situation. So if you're kind of in a rush with limited time, I respectively suggest to watch your time. I had a very bad experience at southern delights. We asked for waffle cones but instead they gave us regular cones. Then ordered strawberry short cake expecting cake, ice cream, whipped cream and strawberry that we have gotten there before. But instead we got a strawberry short cake flavored snow ball. We went back through the drive through to change our order, then charged us again for the same thing with whipped cream and straw berry's on top. If I were to go to any snowball stand in Slidell, it would be here. This place is absolutely BUZZING. Sonic's next door has similar things but this place takes all the business. It may be a little wait to get your order, but most great snowball stands do. They have a drive thru which is great, but for some reason I always skip the drive thru when it comes to snowballs. I would rather enjoy the walk up experience. They are great about getting your order right and as the other reviewer mentioned they give you a cup size larger than what you ask. They do that so the snowball isn't filled to the top and everything comfortably fits, while you still have the amount that you ordered. My favorite thing is that when they stuff it with soft serve they take time to place some in the middle AND on top. That is great attention to detail. The ice is always nice and free of chunks until it sits for too long which is great. My only complaint would be my fault. I always order a premium cream flavor such as dreamsicle or strawberry something or other stuffed with soft serve. I forget how much it is for a "small" but it's something along $1.50 + $1.00 for cream flavor + $1.25 for soft serve + $.50 for gummi bears. That's around $4.25 for a snowball, geezus. But it is very worth it and a small fills me up. They also have snacks there. I've tried their hotdog with chili and cheese and it is great when you want a boiled out of the pack hotdog (no sarcasm). I've only had one type of snow ball from here and that's the wedding cake with strawberry short cake and it's amazing. They have tons of other flavors that can entertain your taste buds. Southern Delights SNOWBALLS and Ice Cream I am officially through with you! I called and talked to the OWNER Larry last time. I had an issue. He told me to come back and get my next order for free. Well we returned, placed an order. The girl called LARRY as he requested and asked me to tell them to do. They reached him and he said he would only give me my nachos for free, but I would have to pay for the kiddie. On a normal day we get 3 snowballs, 1 stuffed and one cream flavor, which costs extra, as well as an order of nachos with peppers. You can keep your snowballs and nachos! We're through with you!!! We called ahead of time to ensure we had the proper payment method. We were told they accepted local checks and cash. Apparently the south shore isn't considered local and they refused to accept our check. We had to leave and go to an ATM because we normally don't carry cash.
