I have tried the root beer, chocolate, cream of coconut, strawberry and spearmint. All have been tasty. For about $8-10 you can get a snow ball with a pineapple and cherry. For about $12-13 you can get marshmallow on top and I highly recommend this for the experience. Its typically a longer line but its part of the experience. Got the pandan and Thai iced tea flavors with condensed milk - soooo good. It tasted just like the real thing (ok maybe the pandan flavor was a little muted). But I think they used real Thai iced tea leaves to make it cuz there were little flakes that none of the other flavors had. My bf got satsuma and passion fruit. That was so tropical and citrus-y yum. And then I tried his sister's strawberry shortcake which tasted like the strawberry shortcake ice cream - delicious. The watermelon flavor also tasted just like watermelon. Althought I am not the biggest snowball fan, Hansen's will always be one of my go-tos for snowballs in NOLA! They have such interesting flavors, including their regular, cream, and specialty flavors. I usually like to go with their cream or specialty favors because they're so yummy! The cream flavors makes the ice reallly soft in a good way and takes snowballs to the next level. You are also allowed to do half and half of a flavor without an upcharge and also test flavors when ordering if youre still debating. The flavors in the photo are thai tea and ube, which were pretty good! I would say, I wish the thai tea would have a stronger flavor, it was a little mild while the ube flavor was very prominent. I have previously tried their pandan flavor as well, which was very mild and light and i wish it were a stronger flavor. The employees are always so nice and helpful when doing recommendations. The line can get pretty long, so keep it in mind. But it usually moves pretty fast since the employees are working hard. As a tourist, this place was highly recommended and I can see why. As far as the sno-bliz, you get a bang for your buck. The cup pictured was $10 and you get more than enough to enjoy. I will say the service wasn't the most pleasant as we went during a pretty busy time of the day which definitely impacted my rating. The storefront is pretty compact with no inside seating, but there are two benches outside (though not enough to fit a large group). It is like going back in a Time Machine to see the years and years of history in this family run establishment. Food/Beverage: They take making the sno-bliz creations very seriously and you must think hard how large of a snow blizes that you want. On the wall, there are various cup sizes but keep in mind they fill the cup over the brim so you will have a lot of whatever you get. We ordered the smallest cup ($4 each) and we had peach for one and early gray for the other. The early gray was the real start with the delicate but delicious early gray flavor. It is hard to choose just one. Service: Our server was quick and efficient. There was not a long line but does seem that it takes time to make the sno-bliz so please keep that it in mind for your visit. They take cash and credit cards but cash may be preferred way of payment. Hansen's has been my 'go to' place in New Orleans my whole life and I'm in my 70's. But, has it changed ! I guess trying to satisfy all comers they've added all kinds of flavors away from their traditional. And, the college students working don't have the charm of the family owners- there doesn't seem to be the pride and love for the product- it's not a snowball, it's Sno-Bliz !!! So, in changing thins, my go to is cream of coffee which I ordered. It tasted different and I was later told that they now have two Cream of Coffees- a decaf and regular. Apparently to get the old recipe I was to ask for the decaf. Seems like I should have been told that there were different in flavor- not just caffeine presence. I'm not in New Orleans often and will continue to go to Hansen's because it's better than any other place but it just isn't the same. read more

I ordered a Peach cream and nectar. First let me say the ice in these things is the best ice you'll ever have. I'm from SATX and we have "raspas" that ice is crunchy nothing like this. Place gets packed with people enjoying their snowballs outside the shop. There is street parking available. Staff are efficient and friendly too. They had so many flavors to offer but I heard great things about wedding cake flavor. I ordered the $8cup of wedding cake and topped with condensed milk. It was a real treat to watch your dessert made right before your eyes. This treat was so sweet, delicious and taste like vanilla cake. You also get to keep this cool collectible cup as a keepsake. Their flavors were just so much better than other snowball shops. We got the snowbliz flavor and strawberry flavor. Snowbliz is a tarte strawberry and it was amazing if you like sour stuff. The people were extremely kind and worked as fast as they could. There isn't a ton of sitting options outside but we didn't mind. My decision was made after hearing that Hansen's gave you a souvenir cup with your sno-ball. It was 90+ degrees the entire time we were in NOLA. Without taking the humidity into consideration. So it came as no surprise that the first thing our Uber driver said to us was "Hansen's? I could really use a sno-ball today too!" (We invited her to join us but she declined because of the sugar content. Which... fair.) Plan and time your visit well. Hansen's is a little out of the way and is guaranteed to have a line. I found myself awkwardly craning my neck at times to catch the shade. It's a tiny mom-and-pop place (it's been in the Hansen family for three generations) and the fans inside won't do much to cool you down until you take your first bite of a sno-ball. It tastes nothing like shaved ice. The texture is softer -- truly snowlike. I got satsuma (a tart citrusy flavor that you'll find on the menu of many NOLA institutions, whether edible or in candle form) and cream of earl grey. I could barely taste the earl grey, so I think I should've gotten another flavor, but the satsuma was heavenly. read more

Every year at Springtime, I hear the hype about Hansen's Sno-Bliz. A few months ago, I tried a Sno-ball from a different vender. It was good but it didn't blow me away. I recently had the opportunity to try one from Hansen's. The business started in 1939 by Mary Hansen. In 1934, her husband, Ernst Hansen, designed the Sno-Bliz machine, which creates fluffy, delicately shaved ice. Mary & Ernst's granddaughter is the current owner of this iconic shop. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from ranging from classics like cherry or coconut to creative options like Honey Lavender, Thai Tea, & Watermelon Ginger. The texture of the ice is very fine, soft & fluffy as opposed to the other one that I had, which was the consistency of small ice pebbles. What also sets Hansen's apart from the rest is their technique of alternating layers if ice & syrup as opposed to filling the cup with ice and pouring syrup on top. It really makes a difference. The Sno-balls are also served in souvenir cups designed by local female artists and change yearly, so locals collect them. Interesting fact: During the summer they go through more than two tons of ice weekly. That's how popular they are. After trying a Sno-Bliz from Hansen's I totally get the hype and understand why there is always a line. read more
