First, the doctor who performed my mother's cataract surgery did an excellent job. Kiper Nelson is first rate. My complaint is about office procedures. This facility books more patients for surgery than they have the space to comfortably handle. Their post-op room accommodates only two patients. Yet, they book patients one after the other. To resolve this problem, Southern Eye Center has the following choices: 1. They could rearrange their use of space to accommodate more post-op patients. . 2. They could book fewer patients. 3. They could rent a larger office building. They did none of that. Instead, I was told that I could not leave the office building because they have had a hard time getting someone back on time and then they have trouble handling the post-op patients. In other words, they thought it was okay to restrict my freedom of movement *without prior notice* in order to help THEM make more money. Of course, this restriction hindered MY ability to make money. If they had told me before, I would have brought something to do. But they did not tell me before. Heaven forbid that they should show some consideration for the people who are helping THEM make money by driving their patients to the office. I had to sit in a waiting room with NO magazines, no TV, no nothing. I think it is lousy that this facility expected me to help them make more money without there being anything in it for me. I was, in effect, working for free. Also, when your freedom of movement is being restricted without financial compensation, you are in jail. When people are being paid thousands of dollars to treat a patient, it is *their* obligation to manage their patient load well. The responsibility should not be mine--someone who is not being paid one red cent. I need cataract surgery soon I will not choose a practice that had so little regard for me, my time, and my money. read more

Wow,this was one of the best experiences I ever could have imagined. I had cataract and corrective lens procedure done at the Hattiesburg clinic. I can't even think of a negative comment, everyone at this place treated me like I was family. Cameron Griffith was my doctor, he explained the procedure and answered every question I asked like I was the only person in the clinic. I am writing this review 10 days after procedure and I'm very satisfied, feel like God has given me new eyes. I would recommend this place and procedure for anyone with doubts about where to go and getting it done. Can't say enough good about this place and the staff . Not only do they make you pay and then get money back from the insurance company but lie and say they're sending it back to you and 17 months later you still have not received it made numerous phone calls been told by Elizabeth Brown it was in the mail as of June the 24th of 2023 still hasn't made it and it all had to go to the next town over. She won't accept any phone calls don't reply to any voicemail not to mention about what the doctor done. On the second eye surgery he knew that he had scratched the cornea and never opened his mouth let me go through a excruciating pain until I finally got a hold of him at 1:00 in the morning wouldn't come to the phone had the lady to tell me to put eye drops which didn't work said he was going to call me later 9 hours later I'm calling him at his office and he's telling me to go back to the doctor that referred me to him and they had to fix what he done he end up scratching my cornea not where the lens was being put in above the eye so I would not recommend this place to nobody take yourself and go over to the one that's by Wesley and by the way they don't charge money for every little thing read more

I cannot say enough about how great my procedure was. I went in wearing trifocals and after having cataract surgery on both eyes, my reading was 20/10 without glasses. My first appointment was both a consultation and then surgery and I spent 5 hours in the clinic, but with going through all the different testing they did, I moved right on through and it was just a busy day and not a day spent in the waiting rooms. The staff, and that was everyone I encountered was fantastic. Dr Nelson was really great and just made you feel at ease. I highly recommend SEC if you are looking to have cataract surgery. read more

After the onset of diabetes a few years ago I have been to a few Eye Doctors for various reasons. By far, the worst has been Southern Eye Center. You are not a person there, your an object to get processed so they can move on to the next object. My 3 visits there averaged over 1 1/2 hours each during which I saw the Doctor for about 5 minutes. The first time I was subjected to a 3-minute obviously prepared and memorized lecture on the evils of becoming a diabetic and dying an early death. A typical visit: Sign in and sit in a over-crowded waiting room for 30+ minutes. Move to a 'processing stating' where they take vitals and such then sit in another overly-crowed waiting room for 30+ minutes. Move to an examination room where you wait for 15 or so minutes. A 5-minute (or less) 'visit' with the doctor. After which you are shoved out the door. read more

You don't always get what you pay for. I researched a few different places in Hattiesburg, MS for lasik eye surgery and decided on Southern Eye Center because I had a recommendation (he was not by far the most popular), and also because Pam the coordinator was extremely nice and informative as well as the fact that Dr. Griffith was one of the first to perform the 1-Visit Blade-free LASIK and completed additional training in cornea and refractive surgery. The competitors in the area had great reviews but the cost was much lower than Souther Eye Center but typically you really do get what you pay for and I figured this would be something I should get good results with and didn't mind spending extra to get satisfactory results. My issues started when I finally got called back into the back (the wait was extremely long but that doesn't bother me). The person who walked me back and asked all of my questions and tests was extremely rude; it wasn't until I tried to make light conversation about how busy they seemed and stressful it looked that she finally opened up and smiled and was nice after that. I finally met Dr. Griffith for the first time and he seemed very nice and competent. I voiced how nervous I was about it and they reassured me that they would take good care of me; he even prayed with me! They gave me anxiety medication to.... chew.... because it "works faster that way". It tasted terrible but I didn't mind as long as I was going to feel more comfortable. Needless to say, the medication didn't help at all for my nerves. I was still nervous and cold and when I went into the lasik room I voiced how I felt again. The physician and tech were in there and let me know that they would place numbing drops in my eyes. I was trying SO hard to keep still and relax but it was difficult considering my eyes are (Asian) and it is hard to have extra room to place the suction tool around my eye. He was having difficulty with my right eye and it was very uncomfortable. He kept telling me to relax, so obviously the medicine was not helping in this situation. It must have been bad because the tech accidentally dropped some numbing drops into my MOUTH........ Dr. Griffith moved the table side to side ping ponging me around it felt. It wasn't caring at all like it had felt when we were praying before. I am in healthcare and I am assuming that most people don't remember much after the procedure but I remembered everything. When he was done, he asked me to look at the clock and see what time it was.. well I couldn't see that great and still had to squint but I am assuming that most patients are filled with joy at the fact that they can see that far across the room and read the time. The experience did not end there. After it was done, I contacted the coordinator and let her know that I would like to have the follow up appointments with them instead of my regular optometrist because it was a surgery and they knew more about it. She was rude and changed completely (I am assuming because she already did her job and got my money). I really wanted the "lasik specialists" to see me because I was having problems but she was extremely persistent that I stick with my regular physician (to this I am actually thankful because Dr. Deborah Marcev really tried to make everything better). I never received a follow up call or anything to see how my eyes were doing. The customer service is great until they receive your money. I wish I would have gone to Hattiesburg Clinic instead. No one at the clinic warned me about the extreme dry eyes in the months to follow Lasik. My right eye is definitely worse than my left eye. I can see without glasses or contacts for now, so I guess that is a positive. Oh! Also, the nurse that took me back to the waiting room and to my husband was really sweet; she was also sweet enough to call me the next day to do an at home eye exam. I would never recommend this clinic to anyone. read more

Don't go there. My experience has been a nightmare. Misinformation, about suitably for procedure, price and time involved. I sincerely wish I had never done this. THIS being getting cataracts removed and then getting new lenses put in so I wouldn't have to wear glasses. It's been awful, awful expensive and awful time consuming. They blamed every problem I'm having on "dry eyes"! Well if my eyes were too dry after all the exams, why didn't they tell me that I wasn't a candidate for the procedure? Now I see weird spots and green tornadoes and my eyes feel like I have glass in them. I plan on asking for a refund. Anyone out there want to hire a semi blind truck driver? read more

I went to SEC to have my cataracts removed and Dr. Nelson was wonderful. The surgery was a success. But, every other time I've gone to the H'burg office for annual checkups etc., it has taken almost 3 hrs. Yesterday, I had an appointment at 1:30pm. At 2:45pm, I left because my name hadn't been called and I knew they would put me in an intermediate waiting room and leave me there for another 45 minutes like every time before. They really need to re-think their scheduling. read more
