I found out that the trip had been canceled ONLY because I reached out to the owner to confirm, since the deposit and contract was made months before, 3 days before the contractional date. Just to be texted that all scheduled trips will have to be done on a later date. No contingency plan or future discounted trip for the extreme inconvenience. A big fat NOTHING.... Lots of individual attention and customized care. If you're at the barn in the late evening... you might notice Jen or Sam coming out to check on the horses, tuck them in, and give them a flake or two of hay for "midnight snack." The lessons are simply THE BEST. Thoughtful goal-setting... specific feedback and exercises aligned to your goals... and a totally positive, encouraging, yet demanding atmosphere. No matter your level, you WILL become a better rider and you WILL feel better about your riding. Lots of opportunities to compete, but no pressure if you're not interested. Barns are notorious for drama and craziness... so much so that a certain degree of barn drama comes to seem inevitable. Not so at ACSH. The vibe is professional and friendly. In six months, I have heard zero critical comments about anybody else's riding or handling or anything else. You'll get lots of feedback but it will never feel negative. Drawback: The facility is not pretty nor in particularly good repair. The tack room is crowded and poorly lit... but the water buckets are SPOTLESS. It's all about the priorities, right? (: FWIW: I've boarded at four different facilities in the area... ridden at five... and taught at four. ACSH wins the blue ribbon for everything but looks.

The trail didn't seem too well maintained which made it precarious at times. I wish there were more signs throughout the paths since none might get easily turned around. The views were worth the wait and uncertainty with lots of shaded areas throughout the trail as well as plenty of tables and benches to catch your breath and recover. It wasn't that busy even though it was a holiday weekend which is always a plus when trying to enjoy a hike. The tables were clean enough to have a little picnic and we saw plenty of people cooking and enjoying the open spaces which is always a plus during a pandemic. All in all, an easy path for people of any activity level, minimal inclines, and good views of the water!

The trails were thickly wooded and wide but unevenly surfaced. The beaches are pretty, but modest. It's nice that there's a public space here, but if you really want a beach, Elms Beach is better (no idea why my review for that place blew up). If you want a place to eat by the riverside, Greenwell is prettier. If you want to views of the river and the bridge, Solomons Island is better. So this place is fine to stop if you're around, but it's not great for anything. They charge admission only on peak days (weekends and holidays starting in May, according to the website), at which point they charge a lot. I wouldn't pay it, but if I was in the area I would stop by now and then.

What an awesome time with Captain Bill and his lovely wife Captain LoriAnn!!!…read more Went out for Snakefish (they are elusive) but failed but did catch catfish with a bow! First time bowfishing and will not be the last! I have a PSE compound bow but this was just slightly different and definitely more exciting than shooting at paper targets. LoriAnn gave us the run through and encouragement and we were off! Both Captain Bill and LoriAnn were awesome hosts! I say hosts because it was like friends letting you into their boat to fish with them. They were both nice (Captain Bill is retired USMC and my cousin is retired Air Force), accommodating, helpful, knowledgeable and can hold a conversation! It was such a good time and we even got to the VA side. Keep in mind we loaded up and left dock at 8PM and did not get done until past 1AM...So wear comfy shoes. We caught fishes and had an awesome time learning what we could from them both. 9 fish was a nice total with one 15lb, 3 over 7/8lbs and the rest between 3/4lbs...The pictures say it. My cousin and I were happy! So if you have never gone bowfishing, Southern Maryland Bowfishing is who you should do it with! I highly recommend Captain Bill and sprain LoriAnn! They are good people who showed us a damn good time!

Disappointing, uncomfortable experience and would 100% not return…read more We booked a trip with Southern Maryland Bowfishing as a group of three, excited to try bowfishing for the first time and hopefully catch some snakehead (we're optimistic like that). I had assumed based on our communication that our small group would have the small boat to ourselves, which is typically why I pay for extra spots; to keep things private. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were surprised to find that two of the captain's "regulars" were added to our trip without any heads-up, which immediately shifted the tone of the experience. Things only got worse from there. Fewer than five minutes into the trip, the captain commented on how "good" my English was and that I didn't have an accent; clearly implying that, as a Hispanic person, I was expected to speak with one. We quietly noted that we didn't even make it five minutes without a tone-deaf comment, and tried to move on and enjoy the trip anyway. Unfortunately, we didn't. There was very little instruction provided, and we mostly had to ask questions to figure out what to do. Meanwhile, the couple of regulars, clearly more experienced, were set up at the front of the boat catching fish, while we were left to figure things out ourselves or ask a million questions. We felt like spectators rather than participants. To add a final insult to injury, when we returned to the dock and I still tipped the captain out of courtesy, I overheard him in conversation with a small group of men joking about how much he charged. One of them turned to me and commented that I should make sure to come back again (It was clearly implied we had overpaid or been taken advantage of). The captain then offered for us to come back in another season since we didn't catch anything which honestly just felt like a weak consolation. This was an overall uncomfortable and disappointing experience. Between the lack of professionalism, the unwelcoming vibe, and the racial microaggressions, I can confidently say we won't be returning. Luckily, there's no shortage of other bowfishing charters in the area, we'll try one of those once the bad taste from this experience fades. Alternatively we recently chartered a boat for blue catfish fishing and had a completely different experience. Look for that review if you're looking for a good time fishing.

This park is one of those that has the look of a private property repossessed by the state. There…read morewere some ruins of old buildings, and the roads are a bit dodgy, but one thing that was looking spiffy was the entrance gate they've built in order to start charging a fee. It was still free when I stopped in, and I'd prefer it stay that way, particularly until they add some amenities (if they're going to do that). The result for those who stop in is something that can genuinely be called a beach, as well as various trails. It's a quiet section of river, good for taking a dip, and I am glad that it is open to the public.
