Yesterday, on July 29th, I bought two coconuts from the Southern Grocery store at 1210 Capital Circle SE for the price of over $6 to get cooking. After I got home, I checked to see if the coconuts were good or not. It turned out that one of the coconuts has maggots inside one of them, and the other one is contaminated also. I went to confront them today about the coconuts, and they not only didn't acknowledge the problem but they also didn't refund the money even after confronting them about the problem. This is very unacceptable because those coconuts could pose a lot of public health risks if they were to be bought by anyone so this store needs to be seriously inspected by health department read more

Recently visited the store. I did my purchase and the man packed my things in a bag. it was placed in the cart. I was done and picked up my bags it broke and my stuff got on the floor and broke. The guy at the billing section said I was in fault and stuff which broke got damaged he would not replace, but I have to buy it again. My question to him was did I do intentionally? The bag broke from the bottom because of their faulty cart was not my issue. NO they did not replace my item but kept saying I will have to pay again. As per my opinion the store should have replaced my stuff and it was just one of the item which dropped and broke. I was offended the way that man behaved and would never visit a store where they blame customers. I had been visiting that Southern Growers since past 3 years. The previous owner she was a real human being. Now the store sucks. It's far much better to visit Publix and Apna Agora than to visit a store which like this. read more

The name "Southern Growers" is kind of a misnomer. There is a limited amount of freshly grown produce available here, not sure if it is even locally sourced. What they do carry a lot of is Indian food stuffs. Everything from curry spice to international rice. An amazing assortment of cooking ingredients so anyone can replicate this wonderful foreign cuisine. The majority of their stock is imported canned and dry goods. They have a freezer section too! Such a lovely store. I am new to Tallahassee, and was looking for a place to buy the ingredients for Indian/Indian influenced food. Pleased at the wide selection of ingredients, and their produce section was perfect. Even for Western cooking, you could do very well here. Very clean, well organized, and the staff was quite helpful. Also, the Lady behind the counter(I am assuming she was the owner) was very cordial, very welcoming. Most excellent! The latest in Tallahassee's quickly growing Indian/Asian grocery sector. Situated next door to Capital Seafood and Lyn's Oriental Market (formerly Mike's Seafood) Southern Growers completes a quaint little trifecta of Eastern market shopping in the Capital Circle SE portion of town. Half of the store is composed of locally grown and sourced vegetables geared towards the Eastern pantry while the other half stocks every dry, jarred or canned good you might need to stock an Indian subcontinent cupboard. Between here and Lyn's next door you'll find amazing deals on herbs and veggies, a half or quarter of what you'd pay at the local supermarkets. Pro tip though, come on the weekends when there's a much larger variety and stock on hand, and more selection from which to pluck the freshest offerings! Also a small compliment of prepared foods available at the front counter and coolers, such as samosa, vegetable curry pastries, sweets, etc. read more

This produce market and ethnic grocery store is a wonderful place to shop. The produce is fresh, local, and has lots of organic options. The grocery store has a wide variety of excellent Indian and Asian ingredients. The prices are very good, and the people are friendly and helpful. I also really enjoy the freshly prepared samosas and other treats. Be aware that certain days of the week the stock of fresh produce runs low and they run out of the prepared treats, but come back the next day and it's stocked again. The only suggestion I have for improvement is to educate people who work there about service dogs and ADA. read more

The name is deceiving. They don't even carry kale or corn. This store is not at all southern. They carry grocery items from either Pakistan or India such as Dahl and gords. They have a lot of spices from Pakistan and India, not much produce. They are not very friendly either. Won't go back. read more

I love this place. I come and buy my produce from here. I can get a weeks worth of produce for roughly $15-20 while at publix id spend approx ~$50. Their produce is fresh, mostly organic, and local. Also, this place is fairly small, which makes buying groceries faster and easier. read more

This is the only place in Tallahassee I will go to for fresh produce now. Seriously, once you step in and see their prices you will want to kick yourself for ever buying fresh produce from a grocery store. Example: you can get three bunches of fresh parsley for $1. Compare that to the cost of fresh herbs in the grocery store; it's probably about $.99-1.29 for a single bunch of parsley, depending where you go. It feels good to support a small business and a local farm, and even better to get very fresh and mostly organic food that you can feel proud to feed to your family. And the fact that it is next to Lynn's oriental (but the fresh produce here is better, in my opinion; I only get bok choy from Lynn's) and Capital Seafood (best fish market in town, by far) makes it a very convenient shopping experience. I also love being able to get good curry powder and a wide variety of flours. Overall, I love this place! read more

One of the best places in town to get vegetables on the cheaps! I love the mini eggplants they sell, and cilantro for 40 cents is a big yay. It seems like they fresh bake their own chapati bread, too, which is delicious if you're into Indian food. read more

Very greedy people. There is a small lady, she is very much money minded. She didn't give me the goods that I purchased until I gave the 2 cents I owed. I felt so ashamed. People shouldn't be like that. So later I said good bye to this store and now I go to Apna Bazar only. read more
