Also came with the slaw on the top - good. The pork was tender and well-trimed, but I didn't catch much smoke. We had a side of fries, they were nice and fat, but not super warm. We had a side of green beans. They were a little overcooked but had a nice flavor, with a slight bit of a pickled flavor. Good value for the price.

This place has been holding it down since 1963, and they've got the plaque to prove it, proudly posted as a member of the Alabama Barbeque Hall of Fame. When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.

My friend, who is the salt of the earth, was falsely accused by the manager of bringing in small bottles of booze into the bathroom and throwing them away in the trash. The manager got in my friend's face and told her to leave. My friend DOES NOT DRINK! Anyone who knows her knows this to be true. This was told to the manager and she said it had to be her as she was the last person out of the bathroom before she changed out the trash. This was faulty reasoning as there were MANY women in the establishment and a group of young ladies who had been thrown out earlier for a similar situation. Once presented with the facts, instead of admitting her mistake and apologizing; the manager still kicked my friend out. I left as well and will never give another dime to this establishment. I went to Goat Island to try to put a better spin on my evening and told them what happened. They know the lady in question and also confirmed she does not drink and has never ordered anything but water or a soda at Goat Island. The manager at Goat Island assumed something that when proven to be false cold not bring herself to apologize to my friend.

Jim 'N Nick's provides complimentary, wonderful cheddar biscuits with sweet butter to start and they are delicious! I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with white sauce and it was excellent. The white sauce is tangy and complements the turkey nicely. The sides: the mac and cheese was expect. Absolutely recommend it. I added a loaded baked potato (sans bacon) and it was loaded nicely with cheddar, green onions and sour cream, but the potato itself was cold. If delivered hot I'd likely recommend it. I decided to make the best of it despite the lack of heating. The service was friendly and excellent, and because of that I didn't stress about the cold potato. And I was plenty full anyway. Jim 'N Nick's provides a lot of seating options, the interior has sit down tables and booths with high ceilings. It's pretty roomy for a larger groups. There's also a patio with coverage from the sun so you can eat outside if you'd like. Highly recommended.

Hot and fresh cheese muffins with butter were waiting for us when we arrived! The crunchy ice is my FAV with unsweeet tea. It was tasty but the portion was pretty small for a grown man. He helped finish my meal (as always) and ate a few extra cheese muffins to tie him over. Waitress was super sweet and Eve got us some tea and waters for the road trip! Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

There were only three cars in the parking lot and three occupied tables, yet there was no hostess, no one at the register, and no employee acknowledging customers as they entered. My wife, granddaughter and I stood waiting at the front for what felt like forever. Eventually, I noticed a server stand up from a booth, grab her apron, and disappear into the back. I assumed she was putting away her meal and would be right back to seat us. She never returned. After standing there another three or four minutes without so much as a "We'll be right with you," we walked out. As we left, I told my wife, "No wonder there are only three cars in the parking lot." Good barbecue may bring people in the door, but terrible customer service sends them right back out. If the owners are wondering why business is slow, they might start by making sure customers are acknowledged when they walk through the front door. It costs nothing to say, "We'll be with you in just a minute." Based on this experience, Williams BBQ lost two customers before we ever had the chance to taste the food.

The melted cheese was cold. Well, it was all cold. I asked for some barbecue sauce because I did not see any on the plate. The sauce tasted like ketchup. My friend agreed. We pushed our plates aside. When the server, Morgan, came to our table to ask if we wanted dessert, we ordered the pecan pie alamode. It was wonderful. We were very surprised that she did not ask how our meals were. My friend and I agreed that we would tell Morgan our thoughts of the meal when she asks, "How was everything?". But she did not ask. Surprisingly, she didn't even say that she hoped we enjoyed everything. We were each charged 75 cents each for the tiny pods of sauce. Each of our tickets were $24. Yes we could have and most likely should have, shared our distaste for the taste and quality of our meals. Maybe Morgan doesn't like the food either. LOL! I hope this information is helpful.

Not wanting to wait until we got back to Birmingham to get some grub, we pulled off in Dodge City looking for a spot that had a few solid reviews. Alas, the place we sought was no longer around, and Jim B's BBQ was the only thing around that looked acceptable. We decided to take a chance on the place (even though the sign reads Jim B's BBQ, Steak and Seafood, and I typically steer clear of anyplace that claims multiple specialties that includes seafood). We might have skipped the place over, but I was hungry and as we pulled up, you could smell the BBQ in the parking lot. Being first-timers, the friendly waitress steered us to the Loaded Mushrooms (think loaded baked potato, but instead of a potato under all of that cheese and ranch and bacon, its fried mushrooms). They were as good as they sound. The prices were so cheap and the BBQ smelled so good, I decided to go all-in and got the BBQ sampler platter. My wife picked the pulled pork sandwich. Everything was great. The baked beans were even awesome (sweet and bacony), and I'm really not a huge bean fan. The BBQ pork had a good smoke flavor. The chicken was juicy. The smoked sausage was good and seemed to be very fresh. The ribs were a little dry, but they were very tender. To top it all off, with as much food as we ordered, our bill was just over $30 including tip. The dry ribs are the only thing keeping them from five stars on this visit. I'm probably spoiled by all of the good BBQ in the South, but I just can't give five stars to a BBQ joint unless all of the que is top notch.
