This was a great stop on the way to the beach! We got a couple of sampler platters and were not disappointed! Our favorites were the brisket and the turkey. Our waitress (who happened to be from The same are of Ohio as we are) was amazing, helpful in making our decisions, and super friendly! It was a great value for what you got. I definitely recommend!

Yes yes yes .... Another bbq place. It can get old in the state of Alabama since there is a bbq place every 5 miles it seems. Here at the Dodge City exit right off 65 interstate is Pop's place. They were originally located off 222 but now in a bigger building and in a more traveled area off the interstate highway 69. The staff is great and the prices are reasonable.. the food is good. If you are looking for simple bbq - this is the place. Yesterday I had the smoked chicken sandwich and onion rings. The batter on the onions rings is a little too thick and chewy for my taste but I love the chicken. My husband had the ribs and smoke on the ribs is amazing. We will be back.

Worst food I have ever had. I have been wanting to try this place for a while. It's on the way to our family lake house but we never caught their early hours. I was happy to know I'd make it on time when driving out on a Friday afternoon. Upon walking in it was obvious I stood out like a soar thumb. Thankfully a fellow patron was very nice and directed me on how to place my to-go order. I paid & was happy with the service. Waited less than 10 mins. I ate the food within 20 mins so I didn't expect it to travel so badly. The brisket tasted like jerky. Think they gave me pieces that were old because it was inedible. The ribs had a few drops of sauce & were also dry. The turkey was okay. Had a decent flavor but I only got one slice. The baked beans were delicious but not enough to ever have me go back.

The food was very good. So much we needed boxes for leftovers. Yummy white sauce! Plan to tell everyone to come here.

On the banks of Smith Lake, on the outskirts of Cullman, there is the dive known as Pop's Place. There is even a sign outside that says, "Yall come go with us!" I don't know who y'all is and where yall are going, but if it's to Pop's, I'm all for it. You can see all the smokers outside as you come up on Pop's. Pop's is very small. I had to sit at a dirty table and wait for someone to clean it but the only other option was to sit at a table with complete strangers. There is only 7 to 8 tables and one outside. The inside looks better than the outside. Though I guess it was Pop that told me they were moving to Dodge City March 1. Besides a great, refreshing glass of sweet tea, they bring every table a basket of their own homemade chips. I'm not much of a potato chip guy but these were some of the best chips I've ever had. Some were crispy, parts of it were soft, but it was all fried goodness with some dry rub thrown on them. I asked the waitress if they did a combo plate. She gave me a plate of 2 ribs and half order of brisket for around $11. The ribs had the same dry rub as the chips, was drizzled with BBQ sauce, and smoked to perfection. I wouldn't describe them as fall of the bone but they were not burnt or tough. The brisket was tender enough to cut with my fork. Both were excellent. There are 2 sauces - one is almost as close to ketchup as you can get. Some people like that, some people don't. I was happy with it. They also have a white sauce you have to ask for. My sides were beans and potato salad. The potato salad was a mix of mustard and mayo but I didn't like it because it had an overpowering celery taste. I hate celery so I asked the waitress if I could have cole slaw instead. The slaw was 100 times better than the potato salad. The beans were homemade and perfect for a BBQ meal. I liked the beans the best out of my sides. Ole Pop knows how to fix up some BBQ. If you are in the Cullman - Dodge City area, you should check out Pop's.

This place has been holding it down since 1963, and they've got the plaque to prove it, proudly posted as a member of the Alabama Barbeque Hall of Fame. When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.

It's not just the best,…read morebut also the inventor's of Alabama Style BBQ, which is particularly notable for the white sauce that's served here and was invented by Big Bob. Big Bob founded the spot back in 1925 and only recently passed away, giving the business to his children. The place is an institution of the state and is packed on weekends. Prices are from an era that's now long gone, making this not only incredible BBQ, but also a steal for the money. I mean, who sells a BBQ pork sandwich for under $5 in 2026? Many staff working here clearly have been around for a long, long time. So, one might ask, what should I get at Big Bob's? For starters, the chicken wings. Likely the best smoked wings to be had anywhere: just the right amount of smokey profile while being tender and juicy. True perfection in something that's hard to master. Next, one of the samplers is not a bad idea. Pulled pork is truly state of the art, winning many competitions around the South. Ribs are fall off the bone and delicious. Brisket is good, but a low fat version that might or might not be to someone's taste. Hand cut French fries and baked beans as a side, and finally, life is all set. Sure, if one gets more adventure, the ice box cakes are wonderful also, with the coconut varietal being a standout. Stop by, enjoy and leave with bragging rights for having tried something truly one of a kind.

I have been eating Big Bob's BBQ my whole life. The quality and taste of the pork shoulder, smoked chicken, and Brunswick stew I recently purchased was very very disappointing. We ordered 2 pounds of pork shoulder. The meat had no taste. I couldn't detect hickory smoke. The pork was burnt and very fatty. The accompanying vinegar based sauce was not seasoned like previous times. Basically it was vinegar with little seasoning. 1/5 The smoked chicken, my favorite, was dry. I wondered if it was leftover from the previous day. The seasoning wasn't very good. 2/5 The Brunswick stew was not good. The recipe has changed. It tasted sweet which was off putting. I do not remember Brunswick stew tasting sweet. The quart of stew had 10 tiny pieces of potato and a few corn kernels. I saw some pork meat floating in a strange red colored broth. I remember when stewed tomatoes were in the stew. Not anymore. The soupy stew did not taste very good. 2/5 The potato with pulled pork was ok. The sauce given was a thin vinegar base that had little seasoning. The potato was the best thing I ate from Big Bob's. 3/5 I am thoroughly disappointed with the quality and taste of Big Bob's pulled pork, smoked chicken and Brunswick stew. I will return again. It will be a while though. I can't get this visit out of my head. This feels like a bad Twilight Zone episode. I really have enjoyed the foods from here in the past. Sadly, not this time. 2/5

I assumed she was putting away her meal and would be right back to seat us. She never returned. After standing there another three or four minutes without so much as a "We'll be right with you," we walked out. As we left, I told my wife, "No wonder there are only three cars in the parking lot." Good barbecue may bring people in the door, but terrible customer service sends them right back out. If the owners are wondering why business is slow, they might start by making sure customers are acknowledged when they walk through the front door. It costs nothing to say, "We'll be with you in just a minute." Based on this experience, Williams BBQ lost two customers before we ever had the chance to taste the food.
