We have come here multiple times for breakfast and lunch. It is always good. Breakfast is delicious, we especially love the breakfast platters and omelets. The pops chips are amazing! Bbq is also delicious. Meat is tender and never dry. We have tried the pork, chicken, and brisket. All good choices. We bring friends and family here when they come to visit. Oh my God. Some of you may know that I am a phenom in the smoke pit, and also if you go through my reviews you see that I frequent barbecue places all over the country. Probably one out of every four or five actually make the cut. This is one of them. Place was packed, and they close at 3:00 so you need to get your butt in there or you'll miss out. They had a separate dining room that had a private event, and then the main dining room for all of us hungry little festerlings. They've won top barbecue awards 4 years in a row, the decorations are nice, everything about the inside is nice and warm. I walked in, and was immediately greeted and told us just sit wherever I'd like to so I grabbed the first table I was next to. They say everything's bigger in texas, and I've been to plenty Texas barbecue joints, but they ain't bigger than THIS 'Bama spot. Ho-ly cow. The waitress got my drink and took my order. I ordered fried pickles as an appetizer, which I absolutely did not need. I also ordered the five meat plate with three sides. I walked in there, not have eaten all day, so I was pretty damn hungry. I got so full, I was considering calling a cab to drive me back across the street where I'm staying. I digress.... Shortly after ordering she came to my table with homemade chips. Literally some of the best I've ever had anywhere. Then my sides came, then my plate came. My GAWD what did I just order!? The amount of food that you get for the price is just amazing. My fried pickles were eight bucks, and my platter was only 26 bucks but seriously, it can feed two people and still have leftovers to take home. I left with two boxes of leftovers that I'll be able to eat on for the next 2 days easy. I ordered smoked ham, smoked turkey, pulled pork, SLICED brisket (the way it is SUPPOSED TO BE made, none of that chopped crap) and REAL pork ribs. None of that "fall off the bone" nonsense that these low budget wannabe BBQ places advertise, that always end up just being steamed and then tossed in an oven or electric smoker. All my meats were outstanding. The brisket was tender, the ribs were on point, the turkey was outstanding. Okra was normal, I wasn't too big of a fan of the turnip greens, but my sweet baked potato was ridiculous! In a good way! My server was super nice, they were super slammed and she still managed to chit chat a bit with me. All in all, my meal came to 40 bucks. And like I said, I have two PACKED styrofoam to go containers. I'm really glad I walked over here. And I'm really glad that this place knows what barbecue SHOULD be. There's a lot of restaurants I've been to, that could take notes from this place. This is only my second time in Dodge City, but when I come back here, I'll definitely be coming back for more Chow! This was a great stop on the way to the beach! We got a couple of sampler platters and were not disappointed! Our favorites were the brisket and the turkey. Stopped here for lunch. It was crowded and the BBQ was pretty good. Being from Texas, I didn't even try the beef, but the ribs and ham were very good. Curiously, their pulled pork was not my favorite. My wife had a BLT, which she said was very good. Disregarding the above, they bring out a basket of homemade potato chips when you sit down. Yes yes yes .... Another bbq place. It can get old in the state of Alabama since there is a bbq place every 5 miles it seems. Here at the Dodge City exit right off 65 interstate is Pop's place. They were originally located off 222 but now in a bigger building and in a more traveled area off the interstate highway 69. The staff is great and the prices are reasonable.. the food is good. If you are looking for simple bbq - this is the place. Yesterday I had the smoked chicken sandwich and onion rings. The batter on the onions rings is a little too thick and chewy for my taste but I love the chicken. My husband had the ribs and smoke on the ribs is amazing. We will be back. read more

Worst food I have ever had. I have been wanting to try this place for a while. It's on the way to our family lake house but we never caught their early hours. I was happy to know I'd make it on time when driving out on a Friday afternoon. Upon walking in it was obvious I stood out like a soar thumb. Thankfully a fellow patron was very nice and directed me on how to place my to-go order. I paid & was happy with the service. Waited less than 10 mins. I ate the food within 20 mins so I didn't expect it to travel so badly. The brisket tasted like jerky. Think they gave me pieces that were old because it was inedible. The ribs had a few drops of sauce & were also dry. The turkey was okay. Had a decent flavor but I only got one slice. The baked beans were delicious but not enough to ever have me go back. read more

Wow..... Very good Brisket, Green we're nice and hot. Red Sauce was sweet. White sauce was ok just not my thing. I would 100% recommend. The staff worked hard to satisfy and achieved that goal. On the banks of Smith Lake, on the outskirts of Cullman, there is the dive known as Pop's Place. There is even a sign outside that says, "Yall come go with us!" I don't know who y'all is and where yall are going, but if it's to Pop's, I'm all for it. You can see all the smokers outside as you come up on Pop's. Pop's is very small. I had to sit at a dirty table and wait for someone to clean it but the only other option was to sit at a table with complete strangers. There is only 7 to 8 tables and one outside. The inside looks better than the outside. Though I guess it was Pop that told me they were moving to Dodge City March 1. Besides a great, refreshing glass of sweet tea, they bring every table a basket of their own homemade chips. I'm not much of a potato chip guy but these were some of the best chips I've ever had. Some were crispy, parts of it were soft, but it was all fried goodness with some dry rub thrown on them. I asked the waitress if they did a combo plate. She gave me a plate of 2 ribs and half order of brisket for around $11. The ribs had the same dry rub as the chips, was drizzled with BBQ sauce, and smoked to perfection. I wouldn't describe them as fall of the bone but they were not burnt or tough. The brisket was tender enough to cut with my fork. Both were excellent. There are 2 sauces - one is almost as close to ketchup as you can get. Some people like that, some people don't. I was happy with it. They also have a white sauce you have to ask for. My sides were beans and potato salad. The potato salad was a mix of mustard and mayo but I didn't like it because it had an overpowering celery taste. I hate celery so I asked the waitress if I could have cole slaw instead. The slaw was 100 times better than the potato salad. The beans were homemade and perfect for a BBQ meal. I liked the beans the best out of my sides. Ole Pop knows how to fix up some BBQ. If you are in the Cullman - Dodge City area, you should check out Pop's. read more

Really good job on there Bbq, quick friendly service in a large room. You even get complementary housemade chips that are delicious. Ordered 2 pounds of Brisket and 2 pounds of Pork. I wanted to pick up at 4:00, I later found out they close at 2:00. I showed up and the doors were locked, the owner drove up about 2 minutes later and inviter is in. He prepared our order and it was probably the best Brisket I have ever had. We are so happy we took the time to visit Pop's Place. Being Southern, we eat A LOT of BBQ.... their pulled pork sandwich was hands down the most moist and tender sandwich we've eaten in YEARS! All of their items are hand-breaded and fresh. We had chicken fingers, pulled pork sandwiches, homemade potato chips, fried okra and onion rings. Everything we had was delicious. My children have food allergies and they are able to eat everything here but the potato salad and some of the desserts (which contains eggs). We are sooo thankful for that! I did have one bad experience, but everyone else on my table had a great meal. (My wings were over cooked). The next time I ordered wings, they were great! Better than Buff**o Wild W**gs! My experience of Pop's was only so-so. I stopped in during a road trip, and it smelled good from the parking lot. But, it wasn't what I was hoping for. They start you out with some tasty home-made potato chips, but that was my highlight. The place wasn't really busy, and I felt the service was adequate. My biggest issue was with the food. I ordered the small sampler platter with brisket, smoked turkey, and pulled pork and had mac and cheese and baked beans on the side. The portion sizes were smaller than I was hoping (only two small slices of turkey, a few small slices of brisket, about 1/2 cup of pulled pork). And, the meat was dry and didn't have a lot of flavor. The sides were fine, but not amazing. My friend Josh did say, "I think the macaroni is amazing!" So, that's a plus. The small sample platter was $13, but I felt my lunch was the same size as my friends who got pulled pork sandwiches with sides, and they only paid $8. Because I'm a value shopper, that was pretty disappointing for me. I think Pop's is worth a try, but just downgrade your idea of what a "platter" is. read more
