Ribs and turkey combo
Tim A.

It always amazes me how restaurants of the same chain can be so inconsistent. I ate at one of these before and it was some of the best barbecue I have had in Alabama. Based on that experience I tried this one and it was a mistake. I had the turkey and ribs combo with coleslaw and baked beans. The turkey was pulled and never had pulled turkey before. It had a very strange texture. It did not taste smoked at all. I put what they call hot sauce on it which was actually just an oil that was all heat no flavor. The ribs were small and did not pull easily from the bone. The membrane was still intact which is a No-No in the barbecue circles I move in. The coleslaw was the worst coleslaw I've ever tasted in my life. No mayonnaise no sugar no nothing but maybe vinegar. It was just cabbage and something. The barbecue beans were very good they were the best part of the whole meal. They had a sweet flavor but not overbearing. The iced tea was fine it was just iced tea but at least it wasn't old. A customer came in and asked about a Senior Citizens Discount and was told because there was already a discount on Tuesdays they didn't offer it. I think the person was okay with that but the manager was quite rude in the way he told him. I usually like this barbecue but I don't think I will be back to this location

Lawlers is a must have before you die. lol the potatoes are STUFFED. Comes with packets of white or red bbq sauce. Staff was friendly and great service. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Causal dining. They had family feud playing on the tvs inside.

Pulled Pork Sandwich and cole slaw.

A great BBQ sandwich, They don't skimp on the pulled pork! Comes with slaw and pickles. Try the sweet sauce!!

Pulled pork plate with BBQ beans, potato salad, and HOT sauce.

I had the pulled pork plate with bbq beans and potato salad, she had the baked potato with shredded chicken and we were very pleased. They have a hot sauce that really is HOT (the way I like it). I would've given it 5 stars but was somewhat disappointed with the ONLY entrance to their parking lot on the main road and not one from the WalMart lot like the other restaurants. If you miss the entrance, you have to go back out into the main highway and try again.

Super Stuffie Tater

I lived in Alabama for several years and I've had a LOT of different barbecue (definitely consider myself a connoisseur). I'd never been to LawLers, but stopped by while traveling last week to get dinner take out. They are currently only doing drive thru, which I didn't realize when I ordered from my RV with a plan to walk over from the Walmart parking lot... they let me walk through the drive thru! It was hilarious and I was happy they were able to accommodate. My mom and I both got the huge super stuffie taters with pork on top. I had mine with bbq sauce and she ate hers without. We both loved them and had a lot of food left when we were done eating - they really are huge. I'm adding this to my favorite BBQ spots and if I'm ever in the area again/near another LawLers, I'll definitely have to stop by!

I stopped in for a BBQ sandwich. The flavor of the pork is just outstanding! A nice smoky taste, they definitely know how to smoke their meets. The sandwich size is a little on the small size, I'm surprised they don't offer a large or Jumbo. Maybe they will offer that in the future. This was my first visit to this location and it won't be my last. Very impressed with the staff and the service. Keep up the great work.

Their fresh baked buns and homemade pecan pie. Yuck.

This "food" is disgusting. For anyone to say that they are a smoked food "connoisseur" and like this garbage....no they don't. I took pics to show you the amount of grease in 1/2 an ounce of this travesty. It tasted bad, like sour and salty....they claim that they marinate this stuff before they smoke it. No smoke flavor at all, none. It stunk like bad pork. It came with fresh baked rolls and they went to Walmart and bought a bag of "ballpark" buns....the garbage pecan pie is prepackaged Sara Lee. Ugh. The coleslaw? Tastes like something they cleaned out of their mower blades....thank go that the Mac and cheese was Velveeta, at least that resembled a food product, somewhat. I may sound like a crabby lady, but I'll tell you, I only good food, and you won't find anything good here. Run, don't walk away.

Stop for the bbq baked potato, great taste and value. Quick friendly service too. Plenty of parking and I like the self-service.

Also came with the slaw on the top - good. The pork was tender and well-trimed, but I didn't catch much smoke. We had a side of fries, they were nice and fat, but not super warm. This place has been holding it down since 1963, and they've got the plaque to prove it, proudly posted as a member of the Alabama Barbeque Hall of Fame. When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.

Jim 'N Nick's provides complimentary, wonderful cheddar biscuits with sweet butter to start and they are delicious! I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich with white sauce and it was excellent. The white sauce is tangy and complements the turkey nicely. The sides: the mac and cheese was expect. Absolutely recommend it. I added a loaded baked potato (sans bacon) and it was loaded nicely with cheddar, green onions and sour cream, but the potato itself was cold. If delivered hot I'd likely recommend it. I decided to make the best of it despite the lack of heating. The service was friendly and excellent, and because of that I didn't stress about the cold potato. And I was plenty full anyway. Jim 'N Nick's provides a lot of seating options, the interior has sit down tables and booths with high ceilings. It's pretty roomy for a larger groups. There's also a patio with coverage from the sun so you can eat outside if you'd like. Highly recommended.

Waitress was super sweet and Eve got us some tea and waters for the road trip! Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

There were only three cars in the parking lot and three occupied tables, yet there was no hostess, no one at the register, and no employee acknowledging customers as they entered. My wife, granddaughter and I stood waiting at the front for what felt like forever. Eventually, I noticed a server stand up from a booth, grab her apron, and disappear into the back. I assumed she was putting away her meal and would be right back to seat us. She never returned. After standing there another three or four minutes without so much as a "We'll be right with you," we walked out. As we left, I told my wife, "No wonder there are only three cars in the parking lot." Good barbecue may bring people in the door, but terrible customer service sends them right back out. If the owners are wondering why business is slow, they might start by making sure customers are acknowledged when they walk through the front door. It costs nothing to say, "We'll be with you in just a minute." Based on this experience, Williams BBQ lost two customers before we ever had the chance to taste the food.

Not wanting to wait until we got back to Birmingham to get some grub, we pulled off in Dodge City looking for a spot that had a few solid reviews. Alas, the place we sought was no longer around, and Jim B's BBQ was the only thing around that looked acceptable. We decided to take a chance on the place (even though the sign reads Jim B's BBQ, Steak and Seafood, and I typically steer clear of anyplace that claims multiple specialties that includes seafood). We might have skipped the place over, but I was hungry and as we pulled up, you could smell the BBQ in the parking lot. Being first-timers, the friendly waitress steered us to the Loaded Mushrooms (think loaded baked potato, but instead of a potato under all of that cheese and ranch and bacon, its fried mushrooms). They were as good as they sound. The prices were so cheap and the BBQ smelled so good, I decided to go all-in and got the BBQ sampler platter. My wife picked the pulled pork sandwich. Everything was great. The baked beans were even awesome (sweet and bacony), and I'm really not a huge bean fan. The BBQ pork had a good smoke flavor. The chicken was juicy. The smoked sausage was good and seemed to be very fresh. The ribs were a little dry, but they were very tender. To top it all off, with as much food as we ordered, our bill was just over $30 including tip. The dry ribs are the only thing keeping them from five stars on this visit. I'm probably spoiled by all of the good BBQ in the South, but I just can't give five stars to a BBQ joint unless all of the que is top notch.
