Had a last minute visit from brother for a quick meet up and BBQ dinner. We hadn't been to Holy Smokes before so we went and enjoyed brisket and chicken, fries, baked beans, and Mac and cheese. The brisket was tender and the chicken was Smokey and juicy. Beans were very tasty. Fries were-fries!. Mac and cheese was cheesy Mac. All and all the price was good value and food was good. I was visiting from out of town and wanted some local BBQ to go. I got the pork "stuffed" potato. The pork tastes like it was boiled. There was NO BBQ flavor at all. If you want a big potato with some bland pork and a little cheese sprinkled on top, this is your place. read more

After a day of working nearby, I stopped in to Holy Smoke BBQ for a late lunch. I'd had this place bookmarked for a while so I was excited for a chance to try it. The restaurant was empty at about 1:30, but that's not too surprising - not exactly usual lunch hour lol. They have a drive through and a dine in area, but I wanted to enjoy the air conditioning and decompress, so indoors I went. I was greeted warmly by a woman at the counter. Her sunny and helpful disposition was the highlight of the experience; all of the service was great. She chatted with me and told me she could answer any of my questions and she was also kind enough to bring my food out to me. They have a medium-large size menu for a bbq place. Not knowing what to really expect, I went for what I view as the "safe" option of a loaded bbq potato and a drink. They serve Pepsi products, which is more than okay for me. I don't remember the exact price but I remember thinking it was pretty reasonable for what I got. The potato was very large but I was sadly rather underwhelmed. The butter substitute and sour cream were served on the side, which isn't my preference (I think it works better if you let them melt into the warm potato beneath the meat and cheese), but my main problem was I thought the pork just wasn't that good. There were a lot of tough and dry pieces and it didn't have a ton of flavor. Lastly, the bacon bits were the bright red kind you sprinkle on a fast food salad -- not what I was hoping for when the lady at the counter told me bacon bits came on the potato. On the bright side, the potato was cooked nicely, very hot, and was quite large. The restaurant was mostly clean and cool although there was a fly or two dead on the windowsill by where my table was pushed up to the wall. Overall, this is an average bbq spot compared to the several I've tried in the Hartselle area. If I return in the future, I'll probably try a different meat or new sides or something. read more

I enjoyed everything about this place. Great customer service and the food was delicious. Some of the best bbq I've ever had.

We got a slab of ribs... first, they are dry-rubbed... and they looked good --- at first. They also came with a container of BBQ Sauce... it was pretty thin but was spicy and tasted good. The ribs? They were ABSOLUTELY RAW!!! Once we got home, we went to cut them apart... didn't need to cut them at all. They were raw and gooey and just fell apart. All the meat was dark red (RAW)... Looks like they were only cooked for a couple of minutes. We cranked up the oven to 400 and cooked some of them for 20 minutes, they were still a little pink. We cooked the rest of them for almost 25 minutes. They were very good after we actually COOKED them. From the store, they were NASTY & RAW. If they had been cooked, then they would have been very good. read more

This is our favorite BBQ place around. Everything is made fresh every day and if there is something in particular you want - like brisket - you need to go early! They sell out all the time. It is SO GOOD. Their onion rings are fantastic too. They aren't stingy with their sauces, but the meat has so much flavor, you don't really even need it. These guys are doing something great. The BBQ is wonderful. We ordered the BBQ nachos, chicken sandwich, and the brisket sandwich. Just as an FYI, the sandwiches do come with slaw on them (which we forgoed. Not our thing) and pickles. Now that being said, I loved the chicken sandwich. I requested the red bbq. (I not fan of white sauce). I loved the pulled chicken. It was tender, smokey, and plentiful. The brisket sandwich was amazing. Tender, smokey, and with very little to no fat. He loved it so much he got another one. The BBQ nacho, so so. If you like nacho cheese sauce this is your thing just not ours. But I will say it stop her from eating it all. Give these guys a try. Service was good through the drive through. Hubby happy with his chopped pork plate. I had the brisket. It was super fatty. When we prepare brisket, we remove that fatty layer. It really took away from my meal. The onion rings were very good. The beans were off the chart awesome with excellent flavor and lean brisket meat in it. The banana pudding was good, but I wouldn't order again. The smoke just wasn't there for us, but my husband is a grill master. Lots of traffic so I'll try the chicken next time. read more

I understand a small family restaurant has limited menu and inventory, but this place is constantly out of menu items. I've lived in the are for 4yrs and they never have the wings and only twice have had brisket. That being said, food is moderate at best. Beans taste like straight brown sugar. Wanted it to be better, but so long as you are flexible with what you want and don't have expectations then you'll be ok. read more

Amazing food and wonderful service!! They have a wide variety of food and desserts and it's the best BBQ I've ever had. Their special "Bart Sauce" is a spicy BBQ sauce and goes great with almost everything in the menu. They do call in orders so you can always have your food ready right when you need it. The brisket is AWESOME! So is the chicken. I haven't tried the pork or ribs, but that's next on the list--great job! I wish you had vinegar sauce, but your bbq sauce is good. The only thing I don't like is the white sauce--I prefer the more "traditional" white sauce served by Bob Gibson's. But that's available in the grocery stores. REALLY impressed with the brisket! It is pretty well common knowledge in Hartselle that Holy Smoke BBQ has amazing smoked chicken wings. They are excellent! But they also have an excellent pulled pork sandwich. Their pulled pork sandwich comes standard with slaw, red sauce and a crisp dill pickle. The meat is always moist with the perfect amount of smoke flavor. It is one of the best pulled pork sandwiches in North Alabama in my opinion. read more
