Maddie at the front desk is the rudest most disrespectful person I've ever encountered at a business. She makes you feel two inches tall if you miss an appointment or can't pay same day. I'm aware of the policy but life happens. There was just once I couldn't pay same day because something came up but told them I'd pay then that Friday first thing but Maddie had to make sure that my husband and I felt like complete garbage first. This was back in December and fast forward to March when I'm getting my dog fixed the manager called me to make sure I was going to pay that day for my dogs surgery in full and I said ate you serious right now? Yes he will be paid for in full that day, all because I wasn't able to pay ONE time? Then today I missed my dogs appointment, I just lost my mother and my brain isn't quite all there at the moment but that didn't stop Maddie from leaving a snotty voicemail to tell me they are charging 65 dollars to my account. Today was my last encounter ever with that place. I will not take one of my pets there if it were the last vet on earth. read more

I'm very much surprised by the negativity of these reviews and their majority. Perhaps people are not compelled to communicate when they're satisfied. My wife and I were compelled to bring our dog when our original vets retired and sold his business. We felt that the vet that followed was chasing the money. I had my chow-retriever in because this was the clinic he began with. He unfortunately died in November. I found a dog at AWS who is in service dog training me for my anxiety and wartime PTSD. We've been with the clinic since January and find it efficient, clean, prompt, and affordable. For vaccinations (boosters), tick meds, examination and consultation the bill came to $203.86 and I honestly expected it to be twice that amount. We are very pleased. read more

Despite the poor reviews, I still gave this place a chance, but I cannot lie. I am extremely unsatisfied and am still in shock about this entire experience. I am horrified to consider how these doctors, especially Dr. Schuld, treat pets. The way he grabbed my dog scared her, and he was very rough with her. The fact that this man was a doctor would have never occurred to me! I was ignored by the staff and the other owner when I reported the situation. Anyone who brings their pets here should do a thorough review of this doctor's office before doing so. The bottom line is that you should stay away from this vet office. I saw a doctor who was unprofessional, unknowledgeable, and unpleasant to my pet. I am giving them one star, but if I could I would give them no stars. Stay away. read more

They are not very good or capable of dealing with pets that have anxiety and issues with going to a vet office. They do not help you with your pet. They stand back and watch and they don't assist dog owners that need assistance. their vet does not have good "bedside" manners, lacks empathy towards pet owners. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. An older doctor muzzled and injected a dog with drugs to put it to sleep because he couldn't calm it down. After seeing how he hurt the animal, before injecting it, turned my stomach. The staff is demeaning and incompetent. The original doctor who owned the business was kind, understanding, and always willing to answer questions. I was frightened for my animal, and fortunately, I was able to get him away from them before they touched him. Your pets will not be well taken care of here, so I recommend finding another place to take them. read more

First off I want to say that I am so surprised to see such bad reviews on this place!! I looked them up to get their phone number, and never expected to see such unsatisfied customers. I have been going to this vet for years and they have done nothing, but do right by my animals every single time. I have had two very expensive surgeries done for extremely fair pricing and eventually had to put my beloved dog down eventually due to terminal cancer. The vets were nothing but patient and accepting of my absolute distraught behavior when putting my dog to sleep. I was crying and spent a lot of time there, and they never rushed me and were nothing but accommodating and sympathetic to my situation. Every single person in there, and made sure to let me know that I could take my time, and they never once did some thing that I disagreed with. I was going in for a check up and they pivoted to taking care of my dog because she was bleeding out due to the cancer. They took great care of my Aleu, and I will always go back to them. I think many times places don't get a good review because no one thinks to say anything until something pisses them off. I have noticed their prices have gone up a little as every single vet place has. Trust me call around and you will find these guys have extremely fair pricing. I drive an hour each way to get here and I will continue to as I get more animals. They genuinely care about your babies and you. Dr. Lynch is amazing and so is Dr. Schul. So many vets are in it for the money nowadays, and I can confidently tell you these guys are not. I can't stress enough that they have been so helpful and accommodating to my baby who has anxiety going to the vet. They even have been nice to me about my anxiety for my baby. The vets here have always been kind and so are the techs. The place is always clean and welcoming, well organized and well run. I never really had to wait and every time I was there, the entire staff always made me feel at ease. They love your animals as much as you do and want nothing but the best for them. I am thinking some of the reviews are maybe spam or just some really difficult customers. This place is amazing and nothing but the best. If you care about your pet stay far away from this clinic. They will not work with animals with anxiety and their only protocol for an anxious animal is to put them on a cocktail of 5 seperate drugs, muzzle them, and then continue to man handle them until they reach a drug induced rage and tell you they can't work with them. Whoever used to run this clinic was amazing, I'm afraid whoever is in charge now is simply in it for the checks rather than the animals. read more

I did curse when I was told I would be charged a fee for not only the partial script I just picked up, but also when I returned to pick up the remainder!!! There were 3 staff that heard the discussion including the statement that I would be charged a second fee (I was not told it would be waived)! I cannot say enough good about this clinic and the staff there. I have had 3 dogs in their care. They go above and beyond ever time. Recently, them going over and beyond saved one of my dog's lives. She had a neurological attack. She couldn't walk. Due to my own mobility issues I could no take her home and care for her if she could not walk. I thought the only solution was to put her to sleep. I was heart broken. They stepped up, and a staff member, Danny, offered to foster her through it. She cam home a few days later, I am so grateful to Danny, and the entire staff. I would like to recommend Southern Maine Veterinary Care to anyone that has a pet on November 30, 2021 I brought my golden doodle Jesse there for a check up and shots .They treated him very nicely and he liked them very much and they were very thorough with their check up and they knew exactly what to do and what he needed. My 15 year old Vizsla was sick and in pain. It was Saturday and I could only find two places that were open. The 1st office I went to turned me away and suggested I take her to Scarborough emergency vet. My best friend was in sick and in a lot of distress. Scarborough is about 25 miles away. I called Southern Maine 1st before heading to Scarborough and they scheduled an appointment right away. The whole staff was great, very compassionate and caring. My dog was in pain and scared and they did everything to make her comfortable and eventually won her over. Dr McNutt was wonderful, professional and compassionate. This was a terrible day, but I am so thankful for the people at Southern Maine Veterinary for being awesome when I really needed a little awesome for my dog and me. I have been coming to Southern Maine Veterinary Care since I moved to Maine just over 3 years ago. I initially came here for my cat, Spooky, who turned 11 this year. He was having health problems that can happen with older cats, and Dr. Walak could not have been more helpful and supportive to me during that difficult time. He himself actually called me to discuss results, it wasn't one of his assistants. I really appreciated that kind of customer service. Unfortunately my cat ran away a few months ago and did not return (I fear he passed), but I have adopted 2 new eight year old cats and I have brought them both in to meet Dr. Walak and establish care. Even though I live over a half hour away now and it is not as convenient to come here, I will stay here for my pet care because Dr. Walak and his staff are THAT GOOD. They are so nice, I am always greeted with a smile. Dr. Walak always explains everything and makes sure I understand what he's discussed with me. Very approachable and kind. We adopted a dog who was brought to Maine from Georgia. Right from the start, he (and I) was treated with care and compassion. For the past 3 years, they have cared for his medical needs. Well, this year he tore a ligament in his leg. We had actually moved to PA, but felt that it would be in his best interest to have the surgery and post care done by the medical team who already knew him, and who he felt comfortable with - so, we travelled back to Maine to have the surgery.
