With school back in session, it will be an interesting year. Last year, Southern Middle (SMS) dominated the academic arena with leading clubs: Academic Team, Beta Club, and Technology Student Association. Further, the Sports programs won District Championships in Football, Girls and Boys Basketball. The Dance and Cheer Team had an awesome showing in the District and will compete on a National Platform this year. The faculty and staff have a huge heart for the students and are truly compassionate about helping them reach their goals. Go Spartans!

On busy days, it does get fairly congested though so make sure you leave early. The fields themselves are nice with an exception for a few that are pretty lumpy. Overall, this is a nice complex!

I was bullied by almost the entire grade when I went here, being one of the most obvious neurodivergent kids at the time, with undiagnosed autism. The kids would make fun of me to my face and behind my back and purposely exclude me all to make me feel bad. They would purposely set off meltdowns for me because they thought it was funny, and it set me back several years on improvement because of it. Most of the students I thought where my friends, where not my friends, and it gave my trust issues I still deal with to this day. The special education was not any better either. I was placed into it for reading, despite the fact I didn't really struggle with it in the first place, but they would treat us like we are infants that didn't know how to read and would make us go over the basics over and over again, even at ages we obviously know the basics. The school is supposed to be based on Christian values, but when it came to the treatment of disabled and neurodivergent students, it felt lacking. The school was great academically, as I understand more about subjects more than other peers my age due to how they taught us at the school, but how I was treated by the other students, and their treatment having lasting effects, I don't have much I can look back on in joy before I remember the bad.

Plus, it is the priest's job to help people become great Christians, and we have that at Mary Queen. We are so blessed that they touch people's hearts during each mass. The week's highlight is disconnecting from the world and spending time in front of the Blessed Sacrament. That's right, leave everything at the door. Pope John Paul II once said, "Our communal worship at mass must go together with our personal worship of Jesus in Eucharistic adoration in order that our love may be complete." And he was so right.

He says that many people have joined the church because of the welcome reception they've received at the festival. It must be a lot more welcoming than that of Mass.

Math teacher Mrs. Britney Richardson traumatized me so hard I remember her 5 years after, we got into a very serious verbal argument one morning where she yelled at me in front of all my peers, dismissing every explanation I had and putting me down at any chance. My breaking point (where I chose to sit in silence for the rest of the school year) was when she said with full confidence that I was "playing with needles, showing them off to other kids.", completely smearing and humiliating me. It was 7th grade, I had just been diagnosed a Type 1 diabetic and was showing a few of my closest friends how to properly use life saving emergency medication, as instructed by my doctor (glad I did because she clearly knew nothing of my diagnosis, if I passed out in her class I probably would've died there.). I was horrifically stunned and upset, and when she saw my gapping mouth she got a real cocky, mean smirk on her face, like she had outwitted a 13 year old. She should've been fired or reprimanded but no. It is still extremely upsetting, even as an adult with a diploma. Worst teacher I've ever had in 6 different schools. Wouldn't send my kid there if it was the last option.
