They were particularly careful protecting certain areas with important plants or smaller trees. There was minimal damage and less than would be expected for a job of this size. The salesman and project manager were often on site during the work, but the 6 man crew was more than capable on their own. They had the necessary equipment to move quickly and efficiently. After the log truck came a few days later they came back to clean up the mess. If you have major tree work to do you should get a proposal from Tree Time before you decide. I figured anyone that would help a church would be an honest person to hire. Sure enough, shortly a huge oak fell across my property, and Charles did the clearing. The task was done right and mess cleaned up. What more could a homeowner ask? It is tempting to hire any guy at a cheap price who says he is good with a chainsaw. But a lot of bad can come with inexperienced people trying to fell tress. The son-in-law of my assistant was recently killed when a tree fell the wrong way. You want people with experience and GOOD INSURANCE COVERAGE to do heavy tree-cutting. Charles Rayfield and his wife Donna comprise the family business and are a good choice for any job you have. After thereby tricking my unwell father (and some neighbors who also later regretted it) into hiring him, this Safeco guy showed up with an uncontrollable level of energy and dilated pupils. The guys who came with him that first time kept saying, "Man, you're crazy." They didn't return when he came back. He left tree parts on top of our air conditioning unit for several days in the middle of summer, even after the guys who were with him told him not to do it. He cut down the healthiest trees and cut off the branches of the tallest ones, thereby destabilizing them. He continued cutting healthy trees even after we told him to stop. Our back yard has become swamp-y and overrun by poison sumac. The foundation of our house is compromised. There's a drainage ditch that runs next to our house, so it should be obvious to anyone who knows about trees and soil what would happen. Some of the neighbors who were bamboozled ended up replanting the trees he cut down. Since he left the unhealthiest trees (and did everything he could to destabilize them) one almost crushed our house during the arctic blast. After getting 5 estimates, I went with Spiders primarily because of: 1) their excellent references; 2) great reviews on Yelp and elsewhere; as well as 3) their reasonable pricing and comprehensive proposal (some of the other companies would not do stump grinding themselves and I find it a lot easier to deal with one company on any project). The job Spiders did was outstanding. They came in when scheduled and went right to work. Their crew was clearly very experienced and deftly handled the tricky job of carefully removing one of the pines which was only several feet from the house and had a number of large branches overhanging the roof. (One of the guys climbed up the tree then tied up and sawed off each branch, while the other was pulling it off on a rope.) Better yet, they were extremely fast and efficient, cutting up and chipping the debris just as others were taking them down piece-by-piece. The entire job took 1.5 hours from when they pulled up to when they left, which reduced the noise and disturbance time. They also did a thorough clean up and were kind enough to help me by removing some detritus from a previously felled tree.
