*** fast casual Southern inspired cuisine *** Southern Rose Cafe is one of those cafes I drove by probably thousands of times and never stopped. It's on Main St which eventually becomes the Andrews Hwy in Seminole, TX. I opted for the daily special on December 11, 2024. It was chicken dumplings soup ($7.58 paid with a card). A hospitable young lady took my takeout order and apologized that they didn't have any crackers after all. Then she offered me a roll. I politely accepted. She brought me back two in a styrofoam container! While the dumplings were the unperfect small doughy lumps I wanted, the chicken was a very dim presence of only a few shreds. There were pieces of carrots, celery, and an odd addition of a slice of cucumber. At least I don't remember adding cucumber to my dumplings... Looks like a nice place for a family meal. They seem to accommodate large groups fairly easily. The parking lot is a disaster. Case in point: It's mostly gravel. No lines or clear designated spots. So I parked behind a row of cars. By the time I got out another frickin' car parked behind me! I was cussing and mumbling as I approached. A guy who was headed into the cafe started to help guide me, but then he saw how easy it was to maneuver my Jeep out of tight spaces. Nice little salad that was plenty for my liking. Texas Tea was made from real lemonade and way better than I was expecting. Steak Fingers with MP and brown gravy was Grrrrrrreat! My husband and I went in for lunch after seeing the parking lot full often. The food was so good! I got the chicken, green beans and potatoes. I won't lie. My gravy was cold (it happens) and I wished it was warm, the rest of the food was amazing though. My husband also loved his burger. The service was perfect. The service was fine. Except when the cashier gave my credit card to someone else. My friend enjoyed their chicken strips, but found a hair in a side dish. The salad bar ($1.99 adder) had few salad toppings and was picked over when we were there. There was plenty of potato salad, macaroni salad and mac and cheese. The Pepsi (not Coke) was flat. The Roasted Garlic Chicken was a few thin pieces of chicken breast apparently marinated in something with garlic (possibly garlic powder). The food is okay. It doesn't taste like it used to. They are also not open on Saturdays anymore. But staff is still friendly.

I give this restaurant 5 stars because its the best restaurant in town. I had the meatloaf special and was not let down (ok it was a little dry and i was starving!) everyone else seemed indifferent, when you are in Seminole TX for business you really eat more for sustenance rather than enjoyment. The odd thing about this place was the segregation between the Mennonites and "the others", this was merely a humorous suspicion until we ate dinner the next night at a Chihuahua pizza place and the segregation became very apparent.... I go to Seminole to work. This place was recommended by a local and I found out it is German owned and operated. Really good comfort food. Had the fried chicken tenders. They were hand breaded and delicious. As far as sides they did leave something to desire but all-in-all a great experience. read more

This is my first trip to the southern Rose. It has a good down home Atmosphere. The staff is as friendly as they come. After looking up somewhere to eat, we decided on this cafe. The prices are reasonable, especially on the special. Me and my wife had the steak fingers. It was one of the recommended entrées. They where real beef, and had a good flavor. The breeding was falling off. Then I started to realize that the steak fingers are all the same perfect size. Think fish sticks. Then it dawns on me that they probably are prefrozen. Don't get me wrong. I've had frozen before and these where tops. Just wanted you to be aware of this. My first complaint was, when being seated, they seen to want to keep all the customers together. It's a huge place and the keep seating everyone on top of each other. It's like you are listening to four conversations at once, and it was not that busy. Second, there was no kind of rolls, biscuits or Texas toast offered with this meal. This might not seem bad to some, others know it's just incomplete. It is Texas. read more

The greatest restaurant in town hands down, I have yet to order something here that was NOT good, everything is always hot and fresh when brought out to you, the stuffed chicken Melanesia is soooo good, it has a slice of breaded chicken then a slice of ham then a slice of cheese then some chopped green pepper then another breaded slice if chicken on top, don't worry if you think you can't finish all that just order the 1/2 order, these people are really great about having 1/2 orders on pretty much everything , oh and they have the greatest battered crunchy fry's ever, it's one of those small town diamond in the rough places, don't let any one convince you not to eat here if your just coming through or even if you live here, it's Goooooood!!!!! read more

We came in town to pick up a trailer we bought from a friend. We were staying for a couple of nights so we needed a place to have dinner. We stumbled upon Southern Rose and gave it a try. The first night we had chicken fried steak, gravy, fried okra, 10oz sirloin steak med rare, corn, and baked potato. My chicken fried steak was ok but my hubby's sirloin steak was good. My okra was not hot when it was served, so I was sad. But our overall dinner experience was nice, since the young ladies who were running and tending the restaurant were very pleasant and cheerful. We appreciated that they created a happy feeling for all. We went back the following evening because hubby wanted to have chicken. He had flame broiled chicken breast with salad, and I had hand breaded chicken tenders with a side of green beans. This night's dinner was better even. Hubby said his entry was moist and tasty. And I liked my tenders very much because the breading was very hot and crispy! This night they were a lot busier, so the food came a little slower. It was not perfect but this is a hometown diner, ran by some fine ladies who like what they are doing. We will go back again if we are in town next time. read more
