Overall decent facility but it literally has the brightest spotlight installed in the steam room. It is brighter than any steam room I have been in (well over 50 in several countries) making very uncomfortable and headache inducing. It ia about 10x brighter than the other branches. I feel like grabbing my sunglasses when I am in there. I am not the only one who feels that way. It seems everyone complains about it. Other than that I have no complaints. My aunt works here and I was just there to see if my membership still is active post covid 19. Pre covid, I stopped in occasionally to play basketball. It was convient as I would let my son sat care facility that located right near where you check it. There were days it got crowded but make sure you plan accordingly if you want to use the gym, court or the pool. Good place to stay fit and healthy if you are willing to pay for the membership. read more

This Y needs a serious management overall. No one knows what's going on and the swim staff are mostly rude and obnoxious. The construction has been going on for over 1.5 years and its still no where near finished. The aqua program needs an overall as well since many of the instructors left and not replaced. One was recently let go because there was never a mop for her to use to clean the pool deck and she constantly asked why there wasn't extra equipment. The current ladies locker room is beyond disgusting. Who the hell is incharge here! read more

Was there today and surprised to see the renovation still going on. Seems mostly done except for access between the weight and cardio room, and the back hallway and locker rooms. Long, long time on this. My impression is that beyond the lobby renovation, I didn't see a whole lot of productive changes as far as I'm concerned. The weight room stations are spaced out more which is good, but the large hand weight rack formerly in the weight room was moved into the Nautilus room, taking space there and causing the removal of some of the lower body machines and the stretching area. So, now, there is nowhere to stretch. Like where can you lay down to even do sit ups? On the table near the door? Even along the track there is nothing but a weird marked off area along the wall. Not sure what that is supposed to be. They've also stuffed some of the lighter weight stations and kettle bells in various corners and passageways where there is also no room to use them without blocking a busy area. Another weight rack along the track, also heavier weights, is in the near corner of the track - like where are the weights less than 20lbs that used to be out there? I can't see where a woman not comfortable with free weights, or able to lift heavy weights could use this gym. read more

They need MORE pickleball times. They barely have any times. They take away the few times they have too. It's always MOBBED and you have to wait 30-40 minutes to play ONE game. They don't close the basketball on time and the basketball players miss a shot (for example) and it flies onto the court and make it dangerous for pickleball players to trip and fall. read more

My family (include myself and a 6 years old daughter) experienced these today at YMCA southern saratoga: 1) disrespectful words, 2) unprofessional conduct, and 3) discriminatory behavior. YMCA reps involved including PAT, Sara, and a few others. I have been paying family membership for years. Generally speaking, over the years your staff at YMCA Southern Saratoga branch has been less and less professional, friendly, or patient. But it's only today I started thinking if i should keep the membership with YMCA. Here was my experiences today: I have been taking my 6 year old daughter to the same swimming pool regularly in the past 3 months or so, where she has been developing herself to be familiar with water, to become braver each time, and to a point now she can backstroke for unlimited distance, jump into water and float to the surface, and swim on her belly for more than 10 meters with her head in the water without issue. And, I have always been in the water with her. This morning, while we were in the swimming pool, one of your lifeguards came to ask me to put on a life jacket on her which I explained was unnecessary as my daughter has been shown to be capable and I am with her all the time for safety. The process then followed by other lifeguards involved, one of the lady guards was even glaring at me and my daughter for 10 minutes, until she eventually "caught" a concern while my daughter was practicing floating on her own. And later PAT came to the pool to ask me the same thing without even wanting to hear my explanation. At the end PAT asked us to leave. During the whole process, a few lifeguards seems to be unprofessional and inconsistent in guidances, PAT is disrespectful because she didn't even want my explanation and follows whatever she heard from your other lifeguards, and made wrongful judgement and decision based on her arrogance. in addition, discriminatory words were used by YMCA employees which made me very uncomfortable. My daughter was scared into tears and rushed out of the facility which was very scary to me. The whole thing was witnessed by others by the pool who also felt uncomfortable, and even telling me this is absolutely discriminatory because they have never seen this happening like this before. Since my family has been visiting the facility so often, why is this suddenly an issue? I need an apology from PAT, Sara who supported PAT per herself (which blocks me when trying to explain to PAT what happened), and your lifeguards to my daughter. YMCA also needs to remove PAT, Sara and a few lifeguards from YMCA as they are not professional or capable enough for performing their job. We will work together to support the community, and everyone also expect a fair and equal return of their investment from YMCA which is satisfactory service. read more

Why can't I see all the class schedule times for each day? Only a few classes are listed early in the morning. And, the older adult class is inconsistently held with nobody to fill in when the instructor is absent, and discontinued on Thursdays? I really wish the class time schedule were fixed as I cannot reserve a time in the two classes I want to attend, I will have to call in order to reserve. read more

This is a well appointed, modern and exceptionally clean facility. Bought a guest pass to try it. The staff is polite and helpful and the trainers were great at instructing me on the equipment. OnSunday morning, it's busy and the lot looked full but didn't feel crowded inside -- very little to no wait for equipment. Patrons were friendly enough, but not chatty. I'm not there for socializing, so I appreciated a bit of distance. As a family place, they have daycare for kids as well as youth programs, so kids are not underfoot when exercising. Jan16 2023, 5:30pm. I went to the sauna with my workout attire. Workout leggings and a dri fit nike on. I sat there for no more than 3 minutes and had a lifeguard tell me that I had to undress to be in the sauna. Mind you it's a co-ed sauna and it was filled with men. I've never felt so uncomfortable in a gym. The lifeguard stated "you can't wear anything long sleeve in the sauna". And did not leave me alone and continued to stare me down as if I'm supposed to take off my shirt in front of him. Then he proceeded to also let me know that I can't wear shoes in the sauna and I need to put them in the locker room or he would escort me out. Being approached and stared down by a hostile lifeguard, in a room(sauna) that was filled with men and getting this type of treatment from the condescending lifeguards that work at the Clifton Park ymca shows the lack of respect you as a member will receive. After being harassed in the sauna, I decided to leave and as I was leaving I tripped and fell over a SHOE. And the lifeguard LAUGHED at me. That's when I realized he singled me out. All the men in the sauna had their shoes and their shirts and nothing was said to them. Even after I fell on another man's shoe, the lifeguard did not tell him to put it away in the locker room. I was too upset to stay and didn't feel comfortable to even be in this facility. And so I went to the YMCA in Troy, and I asked them the rules of the sauna, the only rule is no shoes inside the sauna. And they had no problem with my outfit at all. And this had happened to me twice at the Clifton Park ymca. The next day I went in to talk to the manager about my incident. And as I was telling Yillian Burek(pool director of this location)what happened she justified all this by saying her lifeguards are young and still in training. And no consequence was going to take place but she will make an announcement. And when I told her "this had happened to me twice, the same announcement for the second time will not change anything" she replied with "well what do you think I should do?" I said "Fire them!" Make a change for your facility to make women feel comfortable. Or dont have your little boy lifeguards come up to grown women telling them to strip or leave. And then just to justify their wrong doing just because they are young. After I replied to her question. She sarcastically said to me "So do you expect me to fire the first lifeguard as well?" I was embarrassed and bullied again and again in this location. read more

Great place, a little small but decent in size. Friendly gym goers, and good atmosphere. I would rate this place higher but out of all my years training in gyms, this is the only place that a trainer has kicked me off of a machine because she felt her clients' progress test was more important than me finishing my reps. My first day at the Y, using the pool and the old guy next to me clears his throat and spits into the drain. I wanted to vomit. I asked the lifeguard for assistance but he did not want to get involved. I told the spitter that that was disgusting . He assured me this is what professional swimmers do. I've been away at school and this was my second day being home. I've always gone to the YMCA in Saratoga or in a different state when I was at school. I went to the Clifton Park YMCA this morning and was unwelcomed by a women at the front desk. I was told my membership was inactive on both parents accounts which didn't make any sense considering my dad was charged just a few days ago. I have been going to different YMCA's all summer where I've ran into a few problems with my membership but this was the most difficult situation yet. The women did not try to help me or offer another solution and in fact just stared at me after telling me I'm not a member. There was another women next to me who she also rudely told to "hold on a second!", when all she was trying to do was check in and scan her pass. Don't plan on coming back to this location. read more

The management of the pool needs improvement. They constantly close some/most of the swimming lanes...when asked to explain I was advised that there is only 1 lifeguard on duty so only 4 lanes can be open. So then hire another lifeguard genius!!!!! So the YMCA saves a startling $9 an hour by not having another lifeguard on duty even though the membership base pays $50+ a month plus $100 initiation fee??? There is more than enough incoming revenue to staff the pool with 2 or more lifeguards. Also the men's locker rooms are a joke - small & dirty. Lastly, the video screens on the spin bikes and treadmills are broken/static and there is no urgency to fix. Over six months to fix the spin bike video screen. read more

Visited for swim meet. Good accommodations for large swim meet. Bathrooms all clean, good family atmosphere, pool deck has good bleacher seating, ample parking including for handicap and centrally located to "Clifton parks downtown". Staff was very pleasant although some members didn't seem to be proactively informed the pool would be closed for the day because of the swim meet. read more

I have been here a few times and have enjoyed working out here;however, swimming here is not that good. The girls dressing room is dirty and has a foul smell, lockers are extremely rusty. Once I witnessed a lifeguard monitoring young teenage boys like a hawk. Spoke to them every second, one jumped in the pool near me and it was fine but he said something to them. Not at all relaxing. Go somewhere else. I have been a member of Guilderland Y on and off for the last 15 years, it is great there...clean, nice large hot tub and very friendly staff. read more

Wow! I have never gone to a "gym" and felt like it was a community until here. I didn't know that the Y had so many cool programs. I signed the kids up for all sorts of events for FREE and I was able to workout with them being watched, again for FREE. I wish I knew about this sooner!!! read more

Dirty and poorly maintained, the locker rooms are reminiscent of a prison film. Lockers are rusted out and half are broken and unusable. Being forced to regard decrepit and pathologically immodest codgers parade their withered privy parts is profoundly unappealing. One's membership fees go primarily to support a cabal of useless directors, managers, middle managers, and supervisors whose primary pursuit is to shield one another from culpability, while leaving under-qualified minimum wage earners to provide most member services. Nowhere is this more evident than in Aquatics where the dim, tactless, and morbidly obese "Aquatics Director" abdicates all responsibility to unqualified subordinates. Teenagers with little to no training or experience are assigned swim lessons. These "instructors" have been told, "You aren't teaching anything ... you're just putting on a show for the kids' parents so they keep signing their kids up and paying." The number of morbidly obese staff members exemplifies the organization's dubious commitment to encouraging individual fitness. The sauna and steam room, showers, and resistance training equipment are invariably broken and remain out of service for weeks to months at a time. If you want your moneys' worth for fitness training, go to VENT or PLANET FITNESS. If you want quality swim lessons given by qualified instructors, go to EXCEL AQUATICS. Do not waste your money supporting the poorly run and poorly maintained money pit that is the Southern Saratoga YMCA. read more

I am with this ymca for more than 4 years now. My son took swimming lesson when he was 4 and everything was great back then. My daughter started to take swimming about a year ago. I saw a big change from when my son took the lesson. The turn over is huge. U never get the same teacher more than twice. Whole bunch high school kids doesn't really know what they are doing. The 1st teacher my daughter had always start class late and finish early. So 30 mins class end up just about 20 mins. They had 6 kids standing on one single small platform in the water age ranging from 2 years to 5 years old. When kids start to pushing around, guess what happen.. The director do not have clear communication with her staff. They said they change the passing criteria for the level. Apparently, many teachers didn't get the memo, and I have teacher told me that my daughter does not belong to the level, and she made it sounds like"I" am the one put her in that level. The swimming lesson is also putting myself and my daughter on the edge. They won't pass a "non" swimming kid into next "un-swimming" level until a 2-5 years old can jump in the water. Well my daughter is not the type will jump just because you say to jump. The lesson put a lot pressure on her because the teacher keep ask her to jump every single lesson. It put me on the edge becausei I feel that my daughter need to jump to progress. After a year of lesson.my daughter still where she was 1 year ago with no progress. I gave up. We still have 2 lesson to go and I decide that we will not go back. This place sucks and put unnecessary pressure on the kids.
