Please do you due diligence and verify your insurance benefits because they are not competent in deciphering different plans and codes, even when provided with the explanation of benefits directly. I also did their job for them and called delta dental myself to verify the code they were using for a crown, that according to them was "not" covered, and wouldn't you know it is in fact covered. At this point my husband called to obtain our sons records so we could explore other clinics, they emailed a release form that we never sent back to the clinic while we made a final decision. I called this morning to speak to office staff regarding the insurance, and they stated our account was inactive although we never sent back a signed document stating we wouldn't be continuing care there, we simply just requested information on how to obtain records. So, if you call and act like someone's parent, and give the child's name they can deactivate your account with no verification (such as something in writing, or in-person to verify the actual person they are speaking to) but rather just assume based off a simple verbal phone call and hope for the best. Seems like a huge liability to me. The female I spoke to advised me her office manager was in a meeting (per usual) and would have to call me back but could not give me a time for when to expect her call (ex. today, tomorrow, etc.) Meanwhile, my 5 year old is in constant pain with a broken tooth. Be aware, be mindful, and do you due diligence before hand.

Dr. Cangas came in at nearly midnight on a Friday night to take care of my son. The only thing he said was "Come to the office I will be there in 15 minutes." He did it with a smile and took care of my son during a very traumatic experience. Even called the next day to make sure he was doing well. It is humbling to know that there are people like this that are willing to take such good care of my family. My highest recommendation.

Walking in, the office is themed with all things horse racing; a bright, cheery atmosphere and you literally can't miss the horse in the next room greeting your little ones as they come in for their visit. While waiting they can watch a movie, show or play a video game. This is definitely a family and child friendly establishment. At the end of the appointment, a nice touch Dental Derby has added is a reward system for your child if they have done well and have been following best practices for oral health. Little ones earn Derby Dollars, a neat way to reward them for keeping their teeth clean every time they come for a visit. If you have a special needs child, I highly recommend bringing them here as well, their experience will put a parent at ease, just be sure to let them know ahead of time. Also, a tip, if you want to save time, you are able to print new patient paperwork at home and fill it out there rather than do it in the office, saving you from be distracted and held up.

I called in on 1/11/22 to…read moreschedule a tooth extraction, which the receptionist advised me that she would be able to get me in for an appt on 1/12/22 @ 1p.m. So, I showed up to my appt on time, they took my temperature and immediately took me to their back room. The dental assistant was very nice and talkative which helped pass time while I waited on Dr. Taylor. The dental assistant took x-rays in the mean time. At about 1:30 Dr.Taylor came in to talk to me which was fine. Dr. Taylor left out again and at about 1:40ish she came back in to administer the numbing medication, in the mist of her numbing my tooth another dental assistant (male) stood in the doorway of the room I was in to tell Dr. Taylor he needed her in the room next door to me. (Note. The people next door had literally just gotten there, and I've been there for 45 mins now), after she numbed my tooth she left out. I assumed she went into the next room which she did. Now from my understanding numbing medication takes about 15 mins to fully take affect. With that being said Dr. Taylor didn't return to my room until 2:45. At this point I was very irritated. (Note. I'm 9 months pregnant & need to eat every 2 hrs.. so at this point I'm pretty much starving). In the mist of my hr wait 2 dental assistants kept asking if I was numb and I stated Every-time "yes, I've been numb almost immediately after it was administered" they also kept advising that Dr. Taylor would be in shortly. But the shortly never came. At 1:45 when Dr. Taylor did come in she asked me "is there a problem", I stated yes and explained to her how I felt. She then stated that she was doing me a favor by extracting my tooth and that She had other patients to attend too. She then laughed to her dental assistant and stated that I was very rude. Which I then told Dr. Taylor I felt She was very rude and unprofessional. I understand that these offices have to maneuver between patients, but to leave out of my Room to attend to another patient who literally just arrived in the middle of her numbing me is just insane. Dr. Taylor took so long to Come back that she had to administer more numbing medication because I could feel everything she was doing ( I'm assuming the bit of numbing she did give me was wearing off within that hr time frame). I felt as if Dr. Taylor picks and chooses which patients to treat in a timely matter.. and I feel like this is due to Insurance type and race. Dr. Taylor then stated "well You can leave" & after waiting 2 hrs to get a tooth pulled who's leaving at that point...?!?!? Not I. Please perform the extraction that I've been waiting on for 2 hrs. So to sum this up, Fr. Taylor Came in at 2:45 and to pull my Tooth and I was getting Up out my of the chair at 3p.m. I'm saying this to say it took her 2 hrs to do a 15 Min procedure which is RIDICULOUS. I went to this Dentist in SOUTHERN PINES, NC for tooth pain and sensitivity. I am Retired US Army…read moreand 100% Disabled Veteran. We have Dental Insurance that we pay for. She took x rays and said I needed a Root Canal on that tooth. She cut my crown (which was pretty new within a couple years) in half to remove it so they could charge me for a brand new crown (Cha Ching). So after the root canal and they simply put on a Temp Crown and said the new Permanent one would take 2 weeks. (Alot of Dentist's give Permanent crowns same day now). They then told me with our Dental Insurance my part of EVERYTHING would be like $970. I paid and went home, returned 2 weeks later to get my Permanent crown. They removed the Temp and cemented in my Permanent with NO adjustments needed. (As I stated the crown she cut off was fairly new). Then upfront the person at the desk proceeded to tell me and she was mumbling, making it hard for me to hear that our Insurance DID NOT pay for "Core Buildup" and I owed $525, WHAT? I was no happy to say the least as I was told before that the $970 would cover all my part? I paid but VERY unhappy and Displeased. I went home and verified through my Insurance and inquired about this "Core Buildup"? Seems that is something ONLY needed if the tooth getting the crown is damaged or cracked in order for the crown to be placed. Mine needed NONE of that and they DID NONE of that, so they committed Dental Insurance FRAUD and when the Insurance company suspected that, they denied it, so they FRAUDED me with the charges. STAY AWAY, this dentist ONLY cares about moving your hard earned money into her pockets and will utilize false charges to do so. That's the same as Medicare or Health Insurance Fraud. Terrible. A good dentist should be able to do a Root Canal through the crown, so you don't have to pay for a new one.

I am sharing this review as a warning to parents, especially those with children or children with…read morespecial needs to proceed with caution. Upon arrival, the front desk was disorganized. Only one staff member was actively assisting patients while several others carried on side bar conversations with each other. While waiting to not only be acknowledged but checked in for our appointments, there were 5 staff members at the desk, only one was on the phone/assisting anybody. There was not a line. There was no wait. I assume they were just passing time waiting to get off of work. After check-in, my children were called back. Shortly thereafter, a dental hygienist came to retrieve me because one of my children was crying and expressing that the procedure was painful. Based on my own experience during my cleaning, I can confirm that the cleaning was indeed painful. Experience or not, there is always room for improvement in your professional skills to include interactions with other people and their children. Under no circumstance is it appropriate for staff to attempt to discipline, reprimand, or chastise a child, especially a child who is not their own. If there is a behavioral concern, the parent should be notified immediately so they can address it, or the provider can choose to refuse care if they feel unable to continue. Rudeness and attempted discipline are unacceptable and unprofessional. It took an extreme amount of restraint for me not to escalate the situation in the office. I will be speaking directly with the office manager and will also be notifying the appropriate state authorities regarding this experience.
