They're main stage point is at the plaza where Bed, Bath and Beyond and And That is located (off Southside Blvd). They are only there on Saturdays. What we tried thus far. Shrimp PoBoy (5/5): The Shrimps had nice flavor. I just wish it was a 3 foot long sandwich because I wanted to eat some more. Meatloaf (5/5): I am not a Meatloaf fan; not high on my food list, but this being a soul food item, I just had to try it out and I am glad that I did. It was so bomb. Pulled Pork Sandwich (5/5): Nice flavorful meat. Their side bbq sauces is a must try; compliments the sandwich very well. Step a'Sides; the honorable mentions: Mashed Potatoes (5/5): At a glance, they looked like instant potatoes but they are real potatoes. You can taste some of the chunks. Some labor of food love was spent mashing these mamajammas. Yum. Collard Greens (5/5): Delicious, done just right. Definitely soul food material. Peach Cobbler: Oh hell yes Pound Cake: I'll take it as well The Meh belonged to the Cornbread; it was dry tasting. It was my least favorite. All in all, I enjoyed the food here and planning to come back.

The Gumbo man serves many classic NOLA staples from Gumbo, Po Boys, Boudin balls, and much more. The service is always friendly and with a smile or joke. The upside is that the food is absolutely amazing, the downside, because the food is so good, you may have a bit of a wait if the line is long. Best bet is to check his Facebook page for his location and try to make it before everyone else does. Today, I ordered my favorite, a shrimp po boy and also a large pepper jack boudin ball. The po boy is classic, French bread, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, and overly loaded with very fresh shrimp. I always eat a bunch of shrimp off the sandwich before I take a bite because it's that loaded! The boudin ball was a first for me. It was a crunchy outside, and a hot smooth inside packed with flavor and goodness. I will definitely be getting this again. He never disappoints from food, drinks, to deserts The Gumbo Man has you covered. Make sure you go find him. The food is more than worth the wait, if you have to. I was driving down New Jesup Highway in Brunswick when I spotted a truck with "Cousins Maine…read moreLobster" on the side. I got excited right away as I had no idea Brunswick had a lobster truck. As soon as I got home I looked them up and learned they're based out of Jacksonville, Florida, and only stop in the area occasionally. Luckily, they happened to be in Brunswick that day, so my wife and I decided to try it. From the outside the truck looks very clean, and the service was super nice. If you're going just for the lobster rolls, this is easily a 5-star experience. The rolls are really good. I highly recommend adding the extra meat--we ordered one roll with it and one without, and the difference was noticeable. My wife got the Connecticut-style roll and I got the buttered garlic. Mine was solid, but next time I'd stick with the classic buttered Connecticut version. The lobster bisque, however, was a complete miss--a solid zero on its own. It was very thin and almost tasted like dishwater. It did have a nice piece of knuckle meat, but even that was ruined by the flavorless broth. There was nothing redeeming about it. I could have averaged the meal out to a 2 or 3 overall, but I'm not docking them too hard since the rolls were the main reason we went and they delivered. I can't wait until they come back. Next time I'll just get two rolls for myself and skip the bisque entirely.

Fries were pretty good. The grilled cheese was weird; it seemed like somehow the bread dissolved and so it was kind of like eating a bowl of oily cheese with crab with bacon chunks. Probably would have made a great topping for a baked potato, but definitely weird on its own, almost like eating a cheese dip without dipping anything in. I think if they came back, the best move would be to bring a sandwich roll and make a po'boy with their fried shrimp.

I ended up ordering the coconut shrimp, which the person who took my order said was one of their specialties and I added on the coconut hush puppies. Given that they had a huge sign saying that their cheese balls were amazing, I grabbed an order the mozzarella ones as well. I must admit that I was a little confused as to why a seafood place was selling cheese balls...but, oh well, I love fried cheese. I was told that since I hadn't placed my order online ahead of time, as I didn't know that was an option, my order would take 52 minutes. I was given a time to return to the truck. Nearly an hour wait is a long time for truck food. I tend to think of food trucks as a great go-to for a quick meal. I mean, even an hour wait in a restaurant for food is a ridiculously long time. Nevertheless, I agreed and paid. My order was ready right on time! I was able to skip the line when I arrived back there and received their text and everything was correct when I checked the boxes before leaving. Nearly everything was also overly fried including the french fries which were dark in color, hard, and difficult to eat. The shrimp were large and nicely breaded and they had a good flavor to them. But the coconut hush puppies were burnt in places and had no appreciable seasoning or flavor aside from coconut pieces. I guess I was expecting the usual spices in a hush puppy with the addition of coconut. And the cheese "balls" were melted discs of breading around some of the cheese. They were still edible but not what was advertised. I remember trying a brie ball from Nomi's Cheese Bar at Gastrofest years ago and what I got was much more successful back then (see pic). It looks like these companies have merged or perhaps they are the same folks?!?! The issues on the night that I went may have been because of the crowd or because their oil temperature was too high. I wish I had tried something that didn't require a fryer to be able to better asses their flavors. This truck seems to have potential but I just didn't have a great experience, particularly given the relatively high costs of the food.

And thankfully neighbors are praticing social distancing. They had prepared food and placed it on a table so you could see what you were buying before ordering. I chose the fried haddock and coconut hush puppies. Both were deliscious! First, the coconut hush puppies were unlike anything I had ever tried. I love coconut, and these puppies packed a huge amount! They were big in size so I only ate one with dinner. Plus the dipping sauce was a perfect pairing with the coconut. I shared the order of four with my niece. The haddock exceeded my expectations! The piece of fish was huge so I split it into two meals. The fish was flaky and the batter was nice and thin how I like it. And packed with yummy flavor! I heated the remainder on my baking stone the next day and it was oh so good. I will most definitely try another meal when Island Girl pops up in my neighborhood again!

My husband got the chicken dumplings and white rice, this was exactly a Trinidad Asian fusion. Everything of both cuisines. We also had the fried Mac n cheese bites, this was delicious! A side of guilty pleasure for sure. Nice crunch on the outside and flavorful Mac n cheese inside. So many came out to eat at her truck tonight with some raving how it reminded them of home. A few even came back for 2nd orders! If you ever see her out in the community or if you want her to come to your neighborhood/business, just send her an email or text.
