Authentic beef empanada that fresh and tasty. And the shredded pork taco is to die for.

I had just left the grocery store with a plan for dinner when I saw this food truck in my neighborhood. There was no line so I went up to look at the menu to see if anything interested me. I ended up getting the sampler ($12) which came with a taco and an empanada along with rice. I asked the owner for a suggestion with regard to the meat in the taco and he said that he recommended the pulled pork taco and a beef empanada. So that's what I ordered. I also added a side of plantains ($5). When I opened up the container, it looked pretty simple. My expectations honestly we're not that high. But, when I bit into the taco, I knew I was dealing with something pretty exceptional. The smoke on the pork was fantastic and the cilantro lime sauce added an additional layer of flavor along with the pico. I was definitely impressed. The pork was better than most of the barbecue restaurants around town. The beef empanada was also very good. The meat was well seasoned and very moist. While the plantains were a little dark for me and not as soft as I usually like them, I wasn't disappointed with them. I did find the mix of ketchup and mayo a little odd as a dipping sauce for the plantains. They didn't need it so I didn't use it. The portions here were sizable - the empanada and taco were stuffed with meat. The owners were very friendly as they took my order and the wait time was very short. All of this, in addition to the wonderful flavor of the food made this a five-star truck experience. This was definitely a better option than what I was originally planning to eat! read more

Latin Soul Grille occasionally stops by the Metro Office for lunch from 11AM until 2PM. Friendly service with a smile each time. 1) Barbecue Pulled Pork meal. I get the BBQ sauce on the side because I believe the sauce may dilute the smokey flavor of the pork. Plenty of food for what I paid. I eat half and eat the other half the next day for lunch. I save money and I don't overindulge. Win-win! 2) Grilled Chicken Stew with fried plantains. I don't want to describe it. It's that good! The mayo sauce that they include reminds me of the shrimp sauce served in Japanese / Chinese restaurants. It goes well with the tostones, but I also use it with the pulled pork. The Latin Soul Grille food truck's Latin and BBQ fusion-style in its offerings has a uniqueness of it's own and was a tasty delight for dinner recently! Gary and Maritza are super friendly and engaging with the customers. Besides a solid menu, they offer catering and service for events. Their social media sites include Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, which should make seeing what they have to offer easier. My choice this evening included two tacos, grilled chicken and one pork that came with yellow rice that was lightly mixed with beans. It was great to try a new type of cuisine. Trying the Latin Soul Grille has motivated me to visit more shops or food trucks like this to widen my experience with how foods are prepared in other parts of the world. Legit contender for the best food truck in town, and maybe the frontrunner. I wasn't sure what to expect when I tried it the first time, because I've been burned by a couple of the other Latin-type trucks that pop up downtown (which all seem to put out food lacking in flavor or seasoning altogether). I had nothing to worry about. Latin Soul Grille's food is fresh and super flavorful. I asked for guidance on what was good the first time I stopped by; the friendly man at the window recommended the chicken rice bowl and the empanadas; obviously, I went with both. The beef empanada might be the best empanada I've ever had. Great dough, not too thick (especially at the edges), good spicy filling. The bowl had fresh pico on top of a tasty stewed chicken and yellow rice combo, which was enhanced by a dose of the pepper vinegar they keep on a table to the side. I stumbed upon the Latin Soul grill food truck in Hemming Plaza, Downtown Jacksonville one Saturday afternoon. The gentleman taking the order was so patient as we asked a million questions about each item. The food was fresh, hot, and very tasty! The fried tostones were so crispy! They tasted so good! We just got dinner from Latin Soul at Julington Lakes Food Truck night. I had the ground beef empanada and sweet plantains...I have to say that was the BEST empanada I've ever had! So much flavor, very tasty! I couldn't finish all the plantains, there were a good amount for a side order. My husband had three pulled pork tacos, and he couldn't finish his either! They were stuffed so full, he couldn't eat all of the third one. I will most definitely looking to see this truck come back in the future....I hope I don't have to wait too long. read more

Oh this was good. This truck was a new one to me so I asked the fellow running the window at the truck for advice on what to try. He pointed me to the chicken bowl and it was clear from his description of the preparation of the food that he takes great pride in the process. That clearly shows in the taste - those notes of charcoal in the chicken bowl were unexpected for a stew like topping but wholly appreciated. Clean ingredients too - fresh pico, fresh cilantro, fresh grilled chicken, fresh rice. I felt good after eating it. Wow! My first visit to this food truck was today and I was very impressed. The service was very friendly and courteous with explanations of their menu freely provided. I ordered the Puerto Rican style jibarito (pronounced hee-bah-ree-to) sandwich with pulled pork. It is also offered with chicken. To me, it takes a lot to slow cook a pork shoulder/butt so I wanted to see how well they did. In my opinion, they knocked it out of the park. Very good flavor. If you've never had a jibarito before, as I had not, then you are in for a treat. It is pictured as a sandwich with two long pieces of bread, but it's not bread. It's actually made with flattened, fried green plantains instead of bread. They then added a garlic - flavored mayonnaise and toped it with iceberg lettuce leaf and a slice of a tomato. My sandwich differed from that pictured, but what I received was two round sandwiches instead of one oblong sandwich. Each was the size of the tomato slice, maybe a bit larger. Very tasty. I would highly recommend this dish. The fries that it is served with are shoe string...they were kind of soggy and not fried long enough for my liking, but that will not detract from me giving this place a 5 star rating. MmmhmmmMmm! Empanadas sooo good, I dream of them. Well not really but I do enjoy them! ALOT!!!! This was my 4th or 5th visit. The owners are soo friendly. It makes such a difference when the people you buy from show appreciation for your business. Now onto the food. I've had the beef,chicken,and pork versions. They are all good. But the best in my opinion is the Beef. Seasoned soo good. I could eat this filling on a dish by itself,or over rice or potatoes. But thankfully its sold in the perfect dough shell. First off Gary and Chef Maritza or is it Chef Gary and Maritza. Either way they make some pretty darn good grub. The meats are smoked in and wood burning smoker with a killer wood combo. I know what it was but I cant say for it might be a trade secret. I'll give you a hint....Oak, cherry and hickory but my spelling could be wrong. Now tonight was the first time they have been to the night market and it probably won't be their last. I did get a little special treat tonight with a combo and I think everything that they cooked for the night. I tasted some pulled pork (really good) some chicken stew (good) some yellow rice and pigeon peas (yum) and then some white rice n beans (killer). Then I had to also try the beef empanadas which were also yummolisious. Now they did make some super tasty sauces too. Now I did get to talk to Gary and Maritza a bit before everything started tonight and they really like to cook. You know you can tell when someone cooks from the heart and they do that. Their food just has that little something that sets it apart from the other trucks. Now they should do well when more folks get to try their food. I tried Latin Soul when they were at the Food Truck Food Court this week. The operators were both really friendly. They explained to me that their food was a fusion of barbecue and Puerto Rican cuisines. I decided to try two tacos- one chicken and one pulled pork. Both were cooked wonderfully over wood, and the flavor really came through. The meat was piled on flour tortillas and heaped with fresh tomato salsa. Beyond that though, there wasn't much additional flavor. The chicken had a cilantro sauce which I couldn't really taste, and the pork had a sweet barbecue sauce that was just OK. I'll have to try some other items, because I was hoping for something unique, and while the tacos were good, they were maybe just a little too...American. read more

This food truck is amazing. One of the best I've ever had. I had the taco meal, one chicken and one pork and they were both outstanding. My only complaint would be no side with the two tacos and it was 8 bucks. Some rice and beans would have been a nice addition. I also had a chicken empanada and it was also A+. This would have been five stars if the portions fit the price, the empanada was 4 bucks so 12 for two tacos and an empanada is pretty steep but the food was definitely high quality and delicious.
