These guys are fantastic! They built our original 8-foot high cedar fence, and when a tree fell recently and smashed two sections of it, they were out here within a couple of days to get it repaired. We purchased a chainlink gate for our business in October 2022 for $3234.00. Here in May 2024 we noticed several of the welds are cracked out nearly all the way around and a couple of them totally broken off causing the support tube to push up through a horizontal and our gate sagging significantly. We had an estimator (Codie) come out to inspect, he said "yep the welds failed, cant say I've ever seen anything like it. We'll get someone out to get it fixed right away." The next thing i know, i get an estimate from Dan Vatne their operations manager, stating that we said we tried lifting the gate to adjust it with a forklift and that caused stress on the gate and broke it. He further went on to say that the welds weren't broken, which you can clearly see in the provided picture that the welds broke off the bottom tube. I gave them the opportunity to stand behind their work and they refused (even though they currently advertise a 10 yr warranty on chainlink). I would strongly caution anyone from purchasing from them as they are overpriced to begin with and clearly don't stand behind their work! read more

Southgate Fence did an incredible job!! We asked that they match an existing fence on our property and they did better than we could have imagined. requested estimate, took a week to agree on the date. Completed estimate on a very small job, 84 feet in total, wanted nearly 5000.00 for the job. I was flabergasted. No way no how. Got estimates from two other fence businesses both under 3000.00 for the same job. I guess you pay for the name. Waste of time. read more

It's always a concern when you call to get an estimate and the woman who answers the telephone clearly is unhappy to speak with you. That was frankly a very bad sign indicating that the working relationship with the company was going to be problematic. After adding their slow responses to paperwork we went with a hard no and hired another company. read more

I requested an appointment for an estimate to fully fence my 1/4 acre property based upon others reviews of Southgate. I am disappointed that I did not have that same experience that is touted throughout the community. This is the first time I've done such a thing, and the estimator treated me like I was stupid, and said "well we aren't surveyors" when I asked if they had any tools that they use to determine property lines or if he wanted to see any of my homeowners documents for his bid. The estimator then indicated he would email me a bid after he walked the property, and didn't have any many questions for me. The only comment he made was how difficult something could be. Then, I received an email this morning that simply stated "I won't be participating in the bid process for the fence" without any further explanation. When I called to inquire further, I was advised that since it's free they can decline to provide anything. Nowhere in my initial phone calls or on their website does it indicate this. I am disappointed that I have received no further explanation as to why the estimator will not be providing a bid. There should be a disclaimer added to the website so that people are aware they may not get a bid at all. read more

Called weeks in advance to inquire about fence installation at a new home I was purchasing in shelton. She told me I had to wait 3 weeks just for the guy to come out and do the estimate, then another 2 weeks before the install. I told her I wanted to schedule an estimate and she put me down on their calendar and said they would call the day before to confirm. Three weeks later and no call the day before. I had to drive 1.5 hrs to the new home just for this estimate so I wanted to make sure he would be there. I called the morning of the estimate and verified with him on the phone the appointment time and he said he would see me then. NEVER showed up. NEVER called. NEVER texted. NADA. Since this is the way they conduct their free estimates, I surely wont be giving them any of my money. read more

Had Southgate Fence install a wood fence, chain link and an iron gate around our acre of property. All went well and we were happy with the installation with the exception of cost, thought they were a bit on the high end. Also left a mess on our new asphalt driveway. Service is marginal, takes several days for someone to get back to you. Rating would have been 3 star with the exception of our last service call. Our gate would not open, called and Frank said he would come out and check, because the gate had only been installed for a little over a year I assumed the repair would be covered under warranty. Frank adjusted the eyes, took less than 15 minutes. No cost was mentioned during the call or visit, was surprised when I received a call 3 months after the visit, requesting I pay a bill of $200. Did not even receive a bill. I called Frank, he said, 'yup our minimum charge, guess I forgot to tell you'. read more

July 29,2021, Southgate Fence, Ed, the estimator came to view my sagged double gate. While here, he expressed an attitude when I was explaining what was wrong with the gate and what were my ideas for fixing it. Also what hardware I would like to have on the gate. I guess he didn't like what I was explaining or my ideas. After he listened to me, his first question was if I would consider a chain link fence gate. I thought that was an awful cheap taste of an idea. I have a cedar fence that's partially pressure washed and already stained. I am trying to fix up my place with new landscaping and pavers down the road. He explained a couple of things on what my gate needs to be done as well. However, his attitude was discourteous. His response the next day via email was to decline the job without providing an estimate in writing. He felt he wasn't the best guy to do the project. He is the estimator, not a contractor to do the project. I don't understand what his problem is, but I noticed that he only has two stars under reviews and that explains it. Or my project is too small and he doesn't care to help. The five stars are the big bucks projects and that is what he cares about. read more

Wood fence dident last verry long before post were rotten and dident want to do anything about it

We recently had South Gate put a fence around our garden area. I was unable to get other local fencing companies to return a call to set up a time for an estimate, so I was hopeful that South Gate would do a good job. Ed promptly sent and estimate and notified me on when the fencing would be done. The crew that came out were very kind and helpful, explaining the process and where things would be to ensure the fence would be placed as I wanted it. They even moved a couple of the post holes at my request. The end result is a sturdy, attractive fence that will keep deer out of our garden. Thank you! read more

OK so after some initial confusion they came out and completed a fair bid. After reviewing the bid I accepted it and faxed it back. A few days later I noted that I needed to make a change to it. I called them and said I need to talk to someone before we proceed. I also stated that I need to be onsite during the job because it is a two part job (do not want to bore anyone with the details). Two weeks have gone by and no contact until....my daughter calls me a few minutes ago and says the fence guys are here and they are moving stuff into the backyard! WHAT! Of course I tried to call their office but it is before business hours. I have asked my daughter to have them call me. I can't believe this just show up with no prior coordination after the customer specifically asked for this to be coordinated!!! I should have listened to the reviews but they are so close to my house. read more
