Dr Greco & her staff are excellent. I've 3 dogs that they care for, the oldest slightly over 14. Her name is Nosey Posey and they treat her like a queen. Nosey has hip pain, anxiety, and cries out. Dr Greco suggested we try Laser treatments to help. This is the best intervention yet, she's comfortable, more active, and the anxiety & crying out has stopped. I absolutely love this veterinary practice especially because of Dr. Greco. I'd follow her anywhere because she has been the only vet who truly was able to help our pug throughout her entire life since she was a baby. Dr. G is gentle, compassionate, caring and very understanding. Her knowledge of our pug is incredible and she really goes above and beyond for us. I'm disabled and she understands how important my pug, Prissy, is to me. She knows I'm neurotic about things and still wants to work with me! Now that's dedication. I really love the staff too. I've never met them personally because of Covid but they are very friendly and attentive over the phone. Emely is awesome. Taylor is sooo nice. Marilyn is always there to listen carefully and offer excellent advice. Really wonderful staff. The only thing that I find a bit unsettling is the price of medication and services. It's a bit higher here than other vet hospitals but like I said, Dr. Greco is why I'm willing to find a way to pay. This practice has an absolute gem in her. They were awful when my dog was actively dying. Wouldn't have a vet call me back--when I called 2 days after asking for someone to call me, the receptionist told me that "they have a lot of dogs that die". I was so upset and no one ever reached out to me. Heartless. We decided to have an in home euthanasia service come. I also think they could have given her medication at her last visit that would have made her more comfortable or talked to me about the progression of her disease. None of this was done. I have used them for years because they are so close to my home never really liking them. Now I will never bring any of my pets back and I wish that I had found someone else sooner. read more

I have used Southport Vet for several years but this place has changed a lot since Covid. My cat had a rabies shot with another vet during Covid and when I tried to set up an appointment for him they insisted that I scan and email them the record. I asked if it was ok if I brought it with me instead. They said in a rude way - "no". Really?!?!? This is how a business treats a customer/client? They must have so much business that they feel that they can treat people poorly. Avoid this place as the pet care was nothing special. read more

I'm shocked by some of the unfavorable reviews on this page. My 2 dogs have been patients at SVC for more than 6 years and we have had nothing but excellent and compassionate care from all the DVM's and staff. About 2 years ago, my Border Collie mix suddenly stopped eating one day, and exhibiting weakness, and tremors. All tests kept coming back inconclusive, but she was becoming dangerously ill. Within ~5days, they diagnosed her with Addison's Disease, which can be rare and difficult to identify. Once diagnosed, her treatment was on track and she has been stable ever since. When I've interacted with other A-Dog owners since then, I've heard absolute horror stories, of dogs becoming critically ill and almost dying before finally being diagnosed. I consider myself extremely fortunate that people at SVC were knowledgeable enough to keep my dog from degenerating into a similar situation. They are not inexpensive, but my dogs are family, and after my experience with the Addison's Crisis, I truly feel that they are worth the extra $ read more

They are kind people but I need to share my very negative experience. Before choosing them as our provider I called to ask about expected prices for our puppy to budget during these difficult times and after what I was told it was fair. Anyways, we went for a number of shots and visits and found prices to be quite high. I continued to keep using them until we received a very high charge for the lepto series shots and did some additional research. Most other providers charged for the whole series what they charged us for one of the two shots. At the time of that visit for the 1st shot they asked us to pay the cost of the series of shots vs one at a time. At this point, I called around to other vets in the area, and found that I could have saved a lot of money on previous shots and can on future shots and visits. I decided then to change vets and called up and asked nicely for a refund for the second shots they did not administer but we paid for. However, they refused to do so and told us it's to bad. I found this to be extremely unfair and unprofessional. I am sure they can refund the money if they wanted to do the right thing. If this was my business I would not was a previous customer leaving on such a note and they could have avoided this review all together for simply refunding a payment for something that was not administered. I wish I had read some of the reviews before choosing them. I would not recommend doing business with a business that acts in this manner with their customers. read more

We have had various dogs and cats cared for by the Veterinarians at Southport since 1992. The number is 3 cats and 7 dogs. We had always appreciated the care and attention given our companion animals, and competency of all the staff. But we're not going to return. Three reasons: 1) These days we leave every visit feeling as if we are being up-sold for more (expensive) services and tests than we think are indicated; 2) we got a lot of push back when we wanted to have one of our cats euthanized that we felt was not respectful of how difficult this decision was for us; and 3) the prices. Absolute WORST experience ever. The nurse told us nothing about the actual problem with our dog, administered medication without our consent, and made our dog bleed anally from shoving the thermometer multiple times into a very small dog. If you care for your dog, stay far away from the nurses at this facility. They have zero empathy, explain nothing, and give you attitude while caring for your loved ones. read more

Southport Vet Center/Dr. Hart has given excellent medical care to our pets over the years - our two older dogs who had complicated medical issues, our cats and now our puppy, who needs and gets lots of behavior and training tips as well as medical care from Southport Vet. The team there is very experienced and dedicated - they clearly love animals and want to help us take good care of our pets. I like that they stay on top of advances in medicine and keep us informed. We had a serious problem with Southport Vet Center that could not be resolved. Oddly it did not concern billing or physicians services but instead unspeakably poor treatment by the office staff. Soon after we raised the issue with our DVM we were told to seek another vet for services(!) I'm not certain if there was discrimination involved and if there was it would probably not be actionable---a private business reserves the right to refuse service to anyone it chooses. We've had dogs for 23 years, and relationships running 16 years and 7 years with our previous vets. We have always paid our bills in full and had very courteous and professional relationships with our vets. And we love our DVMs especially: kind, gentle, compassionate professionals, every one of them. Our profile: Upper middleclass, middle aged professional couple with a straight-A, two sport high school aged daughter. My wife is however disabled with MS, spinal stenosis and scoliosis and that sometimes does present challenges for others. We take exceptionally good care of our pets who we think of as family members. If you go to this vet be on your toes and best of luck. Hope you fit their ideal customer profile and are acceptable to their office staff, because at Southport Vet Center it's more about the owners than it is about their pets. Guess we didn't fit in after our two-visit audition. The good news is we found another vet and a DVM with everything--professionalism, skills, compassion. I am very impressed with the quality of care they provide to my little yorkie. I had a concern about having him get his teeth cleaned because of his problems he had with anesthesia at another vet I went to before I found them. Dr. Larson took the time to call the other vet and had them pull their files from 4 years ago to see exactly what was given and how much to ensure my baby would be ok. :) read more

As a new cat owner with little experience, I have found Dr. Hart and the staff at SVC helpful and reassuring. Not only was I comfortable with all of the medical treatment given to my cat but I was also pleasantly surprised by the tips Dr. Hart gave me to curb some of my cat's problematic behavior--this is just as important as medical care. My cat is healthy and his behavior is tremendously improved. I strongly recommend SVC to any pet owner. read more
