I used to think SWCC was the best pediatrician office until a few months ago when they terminated doctor patient relationship with my kids because of an unpaid $59.00 bill I did not know I had. My kids have been here since they were born, my son 15 years, my daughter 17 years, and just like that, they terminated my kid's relationship with their pediatrician for an unpaid bill. No one will talk to me, no one will call me back, they ignored my appeal that I had to submit online. When I tried to send Dr. Hanson an email through my pt portal asking him if he knows what the office is doing, I received a response from someone telling me that billing followed proper procedure. They send me letters I never received, probably because we don't check the mail very often, all our bills are paid online or through the bank. I'm a pediatric nurse, my husband is a nurse practitioner, a $59.00 bill is no problem to pay. And when I did find out I had the bill, I paid it and when I called the billing office to tell them I paid it she said " oh, no, when did you pay it? Oh, you can't do that. We will have to return it to you because it went to collections. You cannot pay it" yup and the office returned the payment to my bank. Like I said, nobody will talk to me. Nobody will call me back, they don't care, and they don't care about the message that they send to my kids that they're so easily disposable. I can't even express to you how disgusted I am, so disheartening and beyond unprofessional. There is no way SWCC can justify what they did. read more

My family and I have seen Dr.McNair since my daughters were newborns. Her bedside manner is amazing! She's on top of their health and is more than willing to answer any questions. What I do love about this location is that you can get same day appointments very easily. There are plenty a pediatric doctors that have same day openings and due to this I've met several of the doctors at the practice. They are all amazing! I highly recommend Southwest Childrens Center you won't be disappointed. read more

However as you can imagine or as you would for your kids you'd do absolutely anything. The fact that after 6 years of you being our child's primary Dr, never missing an appointment and you being referred to us initially by a handful of mutual friends you're refusing to see us because we missed 2 appointments in 6 years. You letting your staff upfront know that Melissa reached out personally is completely unprofessional to say the least. We never missed an appointment and so you understand how degrading you were to Melissa, she missed because she was going through personal health issues. You charged us and I would have been happy to pay beyond. Also so you additionally understand your position, to parent a primary Dr for someone's children is more than a number which obviously is how you operate your practice. No empathy you couldn't even walk out to speak to her in person "after 6 years" as a reminder we've paid your practice tens or thousands of dollars. Instead you notify your front staff about a personal message and have them say you don't want to see us. You should humble yourself a little and have empathy. We'll figure out what to do with our sick boys, they straight up again after 6 years of never missing refused to care for our children. Obviously this dr thinks she walks on water because she went to school for a few years, not to mention the countless times she was late to our appointments sometimes over an hour late but of course I'm sure in her mind because she's a dr that's completely acceptable. Choosing my newborns physician was a huge commitment and reading the reviews and doing a bit of research, I knew this place was the one. The office is clean, efficient, and has great parking! Dr. Root is a young and intelligent physician who provides us with great information, recommendations for outsourced care, and easy follow up instructions! It's nice knowing my child can have a consistent line of care for her current and future needs. The nursing staff is friendly and helpful with scheduling and account set up! It's nice walking into an office where the staff remembers you each visit and has a smile on their face where it seems like everyone generally likes to work there. We've been so impressed with SW Children's Center so far! Dr. Austin has been so wonderful and attentive to our baby's needs. I LOVE that they prioritize newborns, so it hasn't been an issue at all trying to make an appointment. Sometimes they've even been able to see my baby on the SAME day, which is totally unheard of in the US... The office is very easy to find and there's ample parking! Dr. Austin has also been super informative about our baby's health and given us samples of baby products to help transition him into life outside the womb. I also love that their nurse advice line is extremely easy to reach and the nurses are very knowledgeable and kind. They also offer walk ins Monday to Friday 8-9am! The office is clean and organized, and they have separate sick and healthy kids waiting section. We're so thankful for SW Children's Center! I'm pretty sure we landed the jackpot on San Antonio's best pediatrician office! read more

I completely disagree with the negative posts about SWCC. I adopted my daughter from Congo and they have been sources of guidance, care and excellence all along the way of getting her caught up on vaccines, and answering my panicked calls as a new mom. They sympathetically show me patience, answering every question I ever have and moreover built rapport with my daughter in the early days so much so that she begs to go to the doctors office. To start, I am a Physician Assistant and do extensive research before taking my children to anyone. I consulted with my docs at my practice and arrived here. I am so IMPRESSED by Dr. Kelly Balsadua. She took the time to build rapport with me, see my daughter, but also give me advice on potty training for my son. Of note, my son was not at the visit, but will be returning later this year. All of my concerns were addressed and reassured. This is invaluable for a mom in medicine, as we often perseverate on our kids health. More than this, she called me the next day on the weekend to check on me and reassure me some more about a test one of my kids will need in the future. I've seen 3-4 pediatricians since having kids and NO ONE has ever gone above and beyond like this. Actually even when my daughter was in the ICU clinging to life from bronchiolitis my pediatrician didn't call. :( I feel completely confident in this practice. Minor thing, front desk staff are not so friendly. First impressions come from check in. Rooms seem very sterile. I'm used to offices having some more decor on the walls, brighter colors. I even told her this may just be me. San Antonio is much bigger than the somewhat over decorated "sugar baby iced tea" town I am used to. Lol! read more

Dr. McNair is fabulous: she is a baby whisperer (seriously even just watching her handle your child is soothing), caring, and extremely knowledgeable. She also gets to know the parents and I am so grateful my 10 month old firstborn got to see her since day 1. The staff are amazing too. Normally, doctors are great and staff are tolerated. Not the case here. Scheduling is easy with same day turnaround and plenty of reminders, nurses are quick, and medical records help is so prompt!! If not for our move out of state, I'd bring my son here for life. We're definitely going to have a hard time finding a comparable new pediatrician and office. read more

I love the docs here but often I have to wait over 10 to 15 minutes to speak with someone over the phone For either shot records, medical records, appointments or what have you. To me this is unacceptable. Either they need to have more receptionists or some thing. I just called and I am 10th in line to be waited on by someone who answers the phone. After a year of unsuccessful pediatricians I called 210-22NURSE for referrals in my neighborhood in the medical center. I finally found a great team of professionals here. Not only are the phone operators helpful but they will patch you through to a nurse to confirm an appointment with their recommendations if you're like me, and are sometimes unsure if an appointment is necessary. There are a selection of doctors in the facility you can choose from. I picked a name that sounded cool, so we opted for Dr. Boylston. My daughter loves her. We had a Saturday emergency call once and had the privilege to test out a different doctor who was equally great. Another time we had an emergency "squeeze in" appointment during the flu season and made an appointment with the soonest available doctor and she was great too! So I can honestly say this is a 5 star facility. The great thing about SWCC is their availability. I take comfort in the fact they are open for ER appointments on weekends and if *worse case scenario* hospital stay is required they can directly transfer your child. Not to mention all the doctors on staff so you rarely have to wait or are denied having your child be seen (appointments are required). SWCC makes the child and parents experience as painless as possible giving the children a play area (one for the sickly, one for the healthy) as well as cool Disney books once you're in the patient rooms. read more

SWCC is the best pediatrician's office in SA! We've been seeing doctors there for 15 years. We've seen Dr. Benbow, Dr. Boylston, Dr. Austin, Dr. Vizuete, and Dr. Root! While pregnant with my son, there were concerns about a potential health issue, and as soon as he was born, Dr. Benbow was thorough in the tests he ran to ensure that there were not any issues. He was reassuring and encouraging to first time parents! We are so grateful for him! Dr. Austin is patient, listens to concerns, and is thoughtful in her answers and treatment plans. My kids are at ease around her, which is so important to me. We love her! Dr. Boylston, Dr. Vizuete, and Dr. Root have all been great too when we've seen them for sick visits. Would recommend any of them to anyone! Finally, I LOVE the office. It's efficiently run (even in the madness of covid) and their new fast pass walk in system is awesome. I love that they can do many in house labs, including rapid molecular covid tests. SWCC is the best! Your family will be in the best care there. read more

Not really one to leave reviews, but I depend on them a lot. Figured leaving one would help other mothers. Needed a new doctor for my son, wasn't happy with the distance and the doctor he had before. Searched Yelp and saw that this one had a lot of reviews, so I made an appointment to try it out. I WAS IMPRESSED!!!! Appointment was at 2:30, and I arrived at 2:25. Figured they would call me after I signed all the new patient paper work but nope. Me and my son were sitting in a room waiting to see Dr. Vizuete by 2:33. And here I thought I was going to wait 30+ mins like every other doctors office. Doctor was very nice and thorough. Place was very clean and not overwhelming with patients. I got to meet my doctor, Dr. Austin, at a meet the doctor event before my son was born. She answered questions and was very friendly. Every visit thus far has been extremely prompt and great. We have been happy with care at SWCC for the past few years but I am extremely disappointed with your new policy of allowing only one parent in. It's nonsensical. If one parent is contagious, they probably both are. I canceled my son's well check up because both of us need to be there. The Southwest Children's Center staff are absolutely inconsiderate and do not care about their patients or their parents. I had a COVID-19 test set for my son on Jan. 22nd at 3:30 PM. I was told to drive up to the pavillion and call the number I was given to let the staff know I was there. I arrived at 3:20 PM and waited for our appointment at 3:30 PM When the time arrived I called the number I was given and a young woman answered very lazily and carelessly. I informed her that I was there for a drive up COVID-19 test for my son for 3:30. The lazy woman said ok, and hung up. By this time my son had started to cry, and become fussy. I know this was apparent during my call because the lazy woman stuttered when she heard my son. I expected to wait a few minutes, maybe 10, I waited 15 minutes and nothing. So I called texted my wife to call due to my son's continues crying. She called and she was told they were on the way out. No one ever showed up... I ended up waiting 35 minutes with my son crying the entire time before leaving. Upon arriving home (A total of 45 minutes had passed by.) I get a call asking where I was? I angrily said I left. Then I was asked why? Seriously why??? You made me wait 35 minutes with a screaming child in a car, double parked, and getting yelled at by others for being double parked. So I hung up. My wife later called back to set another appointment for the next day at 8:00 AM (the first appointment for the day) While making the appointment, the individual told my wife "not to worry we wouldn't be charged for a no show." You are damn right you weren't going to charge us for the staff's negligence! She blew off the comment and made the appointment. Again I show up 10 minutes early, do the same thing, and yet again, I'm left waiting another 30 minutes with a screaming child! This time no one answered the phone after calling three times! To add a cherry on top we receive a rude, sloppy hand written letter from a (mystery staff member) stating that we were belligerent and disrespectful, and that they hoped it wouldn't be a problem in the future. Well mystery staff member since you are too chicken---- to sign your name, please know my name is Alex and you won't have a problem in the near future, because we are leaving your poor excuse of a children's medical facility. You were belligerent and disrespectful by blowing off me and my son twice, and having the gall to hide behind a letter to speak your mind. You all have my number... Why don't you call me and tell me I'm disrespectful and belligerent to me personally? I'm sure you won't. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE! THE STAFF DOES NOT CARE AT ALL FOR THE WELL BEING OF THEIR PATIENTS! You are better off taking your child to a ready clinic. Absolutely poor excuse for a medical facility! Dr McNair was absolutely great with my infant. Even when the office is closed you can still talk to a nurse and ask for advice. On one occasion my husband called during a weekend and talked to both the doctor and nurse. We were walked through how to take a rectal temperature. You are taken care of 24/7 any day of the week. Was able to calm my worries and avoid unnecessary trips to urgent care. Never waited more than 5 minutes in the waiting room. On one occasion I called and was even offered a same day appointment. Not the type of office that will offer an appointment in a month when you don't need it anymore. Highly recommend this office to any new parents. read more

I was amazed how fast we were able to get in.( because staff is amazing)a a new mother I was discharged from the hospital immediately with a jandice newborn and was told to see my pedi. At this point I'm lookin for a new physician for him sooooo. I happened to call SW children and even though they were not available they squeezed me in under the certain circumstances. After arriving the next day they helped me on why my baby wasn't eating /loosing weight.my baby is now 3 month...and growing big! (Health at 52% of growth chart) they are an amazing team! I am thrilled with Southwest Children's Center. After a terrible experience at my first pediatrician with a 5 day old baby, I started taking my son to SWCC. Dr. Finklea is my son's pediatrician and he is an amazing doctor. His visits are very thorough, taking his time to examine my son. He is very patient and thoughtful in listening to and answering my questions. The staff is also very friendly and the office clean. There is literally no wait time. Every time I've sat down in the waiting room they were already calling our name. I think loving the practice you take your child to is critical to his health and wellness, and wouldn't trust just anyone with my precious son. My son has been seeing Dr.Benbow since he was a newborn. He actually came to visit him every morning in the NICU where my son spent 5 days. It was a stressful situation, but he was always very reassuring and mindful of my needs too. This carried over to our visits after discharge"...are you getting sleep?....do you have enough help...? any feelings of depression?" Rather than pushing formula when I was having issues with milk production, he referred us to the lactation center. When my son was in the ER he called the radiologist while we were in the office to discuss the X-rays. He's had his nurse Gloria call to check on my son after a sick visit. He has a good sense of humor and it is obvious he genuinely cares about your child. He does NOT stare at a computer screen the entire time as someone else mentioned on an earlier review. My son has seen several of the other pediatricians for urgent care needs and they are all decent, some I prefer more than others. And yes, the pediatric providers and nurses often refer to parents as "mom" and "dad", but seriously that is not important. They all call my son by his name. I can say as a provider of adult patients it would be distracting having to remember husbands/wives names or whom ever accompanies my patients. Also I have to disagree that this office is messy. I have never witnessed this and I am a neat freak who would take note of such things. read more

My daughter is almost 8 and we've been going to Southwest Children's since she was about 6 months. I have always loved going there. Dr. Austin is out pediatrician and she's wonderful. However in the last 12 months if not more the office has really changed. We used to wait maybe 10 minutes maximum to be taken into a room. Now it's about 30-40 minutes. Once you get put in a room it's another 30-40 minute wait. With it being a pediatricians office dealing with children to have a child sit and wait that long (especially sick) is not acceptable. While checking in yesterday I heard the receptionists mention how they are double booking appointments. I am empathetic with the issues of Covid and understaffing but this not okay. They were able to expand the office and put more rooms in but clearly not staff it to accommodate the number of appointments. Yesterday my daughter went in to have her hand checked and Dr. Austin wasn't available so we were booked with Dr. Benbow. Never again. He is a doctor that spends more time typing on his computer vs engaging with us. He was out the door before he even finished his sentences leaving me with 0 opportunities to ask questions. He sent me to the receptionist to receive a note for my daughter for school but when I went up there a very frustrated receptionist told me she can't do that and it was his job. The nurses are very hit or miss. The one yesterday just dismissed me when I was asking questions. She wanted us out of the room. The referral department booked me an appointment next day with a specialist not even asking my availability. When I expressed my frustrations and asked her help she said this is the way it was and that she wanted to hang up my call with her because I was keeping her from going home. If anyone is looking for a fantastic pediatrician, I would highly recommend Dr. Krista Vizuete! She has been our pediatrician since my two year old daughter was a few days old. I knew she would be great when I brought my daughter in for her 2 week old visit and she asked me how I was feeling as a new mom. Throughout my daughter's first year, I feel like she was slightly behind in meeting her milestones and as a first time mom, I was concerned. She was very reassuring to me, while also preparing us that we MAY need physical/occupational therapy if my daughter didn't start walking soon. Now that I have my son, she always checks in with how my daughter is adjusting to being a big sister. I honestly feel like Dr. Vizuete cares about our entire family. read more

This place is a little gem. Miranda, one of the ladies up front, couldn't have been sweeter or more patient with me scheduling a new patient appointment. She really helped me out when no one else on my side of town was taking new patient appointments on a Friday. Dr. Basaldua was really just a breath of fresh air and better than my expectations. Didn't try to rush, took the time to listen to a couple of my concerns without cutting me off in any way. She could not have been more polite or sweet to us. Dr. Austin was Great, however through some shady billing practices somehow it went from us asking how much the vaccines would cost if we pay out of pocket, they said $175. We were like great because she isn't on insurance yet. then they sent the bill to our insurance? and because we were "insured" the vaccines cost about $1000!!!! Then I was told that they had a note to bill us out of pocket but sent it to insurance anyways because we didn't tell them she wasn't on insurance?? but somehow i just randomly guessed the $175 I was told? basically was told by the lady in billing that I don't remember that correctly and I need to pay up. I wonder if I had the kid on insurance if they would have asked me for the $175 out of pocket and covered the $40 co-pay. Read YOU BILLS! read more

I've been extremely happy with the pediatric services provided at Southwest Children's Center. The clinic was recommended by my best friend who has been taking her kids there for a few years. Later, I found out that an old co-worker also takes her kids there, and a college friend's uncle is a physician there. For the most part, making appointments is very easy and fairly flexible. Keep in mind that doctors like to go on vacation or have sick days too! What two features at this clinic blew my mind? If you have a sick child, you can bring them during walk-in hours between 8-9am Mon-Fri. What?!?! AND, you can make a weekend urgent care appointment for them starting at 8am on Sat morning. You'll have to call quick though, since those weekend appointments tend to get snapped up quickly. When I shared the info about the walk-in hours and weekend urgent care appointments with people I knew, they were shocked and couldn't believe a pediatrician's office would offer this service. Since I've had to use both services now, I'm definitely a fan and appreciate that my child's records stay in-house with their regular medical team. read more

We've been seeing doctors in this office for over 12 years with 3 children with varying health conditions. I'm consistently amazed with how smoothly our appts run, the quality of communication we receive, and the wisdom I get from the doctors. I always feel heard as a mom and the most important person in my child's life, and have really leaned on their expertise. One of my sons has had asthma for years and I feel like it has been controlled very well without needing a specialist. When my daughter was born with hip dysplasia she was diagnosed on day 1 in the hospital. The doctor caught it right away. For flus, colds, covid and earaches -- our care has been consistently fantastic. Problem has always been diagnosed and easily solved. They schedule in emergency appts availability the first hour of the am knowing that kids sometimes need care immediately! I've always been able to get a same day appointment and when my little ones are hurting, that is everything. Plus my dr visit is cheaper than urgent care or emergency room. Our doctor is Dr. Benbow and he is a wealth of knowledge with a great bedside manner. We've been seeing him for the last 8 years and could not be more pleased. His nurses are so good, that my toddler has never cried getting shots! In emergency situations with a sick toddler, we have seen Dr. McNair. She was so comforting and provided excellent care for us in a scary situation, staying with us after hours until we were out of the woods. We were also impressed with Dr. Finklea. It is generally easy to get an appointment and they have weekend hours that are so helpful when needed - if your kids are like mine who seem to only get sick on the weekends. Sometimes, the office staff leaves a little to be desired, but that is to be expected. A wonderful group of doctors that I would highly recommend to other parents in the area. read more
