I have just read comments where people are upset about deposits when their deductible hasn't been met. This is standard practice as I've seen it with other procedures outside of this practice, prior to meeting my deductible. I'm disgusted by the accusations that Dr. Dershowitz is inappropriate. I've been seeing him for over a year and have yet to hear him say anything offensive that undermines his wife and his profession. In addition staff is in the room by the provider. This is done in part to protect doctors of situations like this. The media has made it so disgruntled individuals can harm others with accusations like this. A complaint of this nature is brought to the Medical Board and are taken seriously jeopardizing suspension of a Dr.'s medical license. Now for my review of care- I just had a mortons neuroma removed that was overdue. I didn't take care of the neuroma and it was even changing the way my toes were positioned. Dr. Dershowitz and his staff were compassionate& knowledgeable as I was apprehensive. Dershowitz had previously by steroid injections to reduce pain and swelling. All options were exhausted prior to surgery recommendation. I was thrilled with the outcome and that I missed only one day of work! I highly recommend Dr. Dershowitz and his practice. They really made me feel at ease before and after the procedure. read more

Stacey (scheduler) could not have been any ruder and the office has shady business practices. Called the general number to get an appt for my Mom. No one answered and the phone system just looped back to main menu and would not allow voicemail - I tried twice and was going to move on. Then I get an automated text (never left my number or a message) that requires me to unsubscribe to texts I never signed up for (fishing my data - stalker-ish). I text back to let them know their phone lines are broken. I get texts back (no identification or name given as to who is sending me this) asking me to text her photos of insurance cards. Does office have any idea how unsafe that is? So I text back they call me and I will set an appt. In comes Stacey - I was trying to talk to her and she cut me off and very sternly said "Let me finish." I hung up. I wouldn't give this office ten cents of my money. Run!! If you have complications or don't heal optimally after your foot surgery don't expect Dr Dershowitz or his staff to help you in any way. You are on your own if you need anything to help you like a walker, a wheelchair or help finding any resources. My mother wasn't able to walk after foot surgery, and the doctor and his staff didn't prepare us for this possibility at all, nor did they help after I called to ask for advice. This is irresponsible! I did find some help through an organization called Ability 360, which my mom's primary care physician referred me to. Be prepared for the worst no matter how "minor" the surgery. Have a caregiver's number on hand and know where you can borrow a wheelchair, walker, cane or crutch ahead of time! Ask your friends and your community, don't waste your time calling this office because no one here will lift a finger to help you. read more

After a couple more visits I know understand the negative reviews. Everytime I showed up I was greeted with more bills that I had to pay or I wouldn't be treated. I would wait forever for the Dr only to have him try to sell me more services that don't fix the issue or that I didn't want. Dr. Dershowitz was kind and extremely informative. He took the time to answer all of my questions and suggested working with other Drs to help get my issues taken care of. I got laser treatments in the office and they dramatically improved my mobility and relieved my pain. The staff went out of their way to help me with scheduling appointments around my schedule and they were always professional and on time and friendly. I am grateful for the care I received from the staff at SWFI and would recommend this facility to anyone that needs care. read more

Dr. Dershowitz is the real deal! In fact, had I listened to him three years ago, I probably would have had a simpler surgery to remove a bad bunion. As it was, he did a superb job! My foot is straight as an arrow and, for the first time in decades, completely pain-free. His office staff is also the best! Courteous, caring and efficient - I didn't even mind coming for check-ups since they were all so great to deal with! It all started with a $160.00 deposit no matter what your co pay is. They don't deal with your ins.co. You do. Miss diagnosed me for one and a half months, custom orthotics, and 6 steroid shots later I switched doctors away from Dr D. Only to find out I have a fracture in my foot. I wish I could say that I had an opportunity to meet with the doctor but I couldn't get that far. I experienced horrible customer service at check-in when they asked for $160 before I'd be seen!!! My co-pay is ONLY $35!!!!! I was told it wasn't their responsibility to ensure I had insurance coverage and that they couldn't spend "hours" on the phone with insurance companies!!! I've had this appointment set for TWO weeks and not once did I get a phone call from their office to let me know they were having an issue with reaching my insurance company. I am so disappointed and have never been treated with such disrespect by any doctor's office before. I have been a patient of Dr. Dershowitz for many years. During this time, I have come to fully trust that he would make decisions and recommendations for my health care that would be most beneficial for me. When I expressed to him that I was having severe arthritic pain in my legs, he suggested that I try a new treatment that he can now offer to his patients. It is a laser therapy whereby a robotic laser head is positioned over the area giving the most pain. It is a 10 minute, painless procedure and since using the laser my pain has decreased significantly. I have been a patient of Dr. Dershowitz for many years with different foot problems which required surgery. When I recently had problems with my Achilles Tendon, Dr. Dershowitz's recommendation was Laser Therapy treatments. I was a little skeptical but willing to try anything versus surgery. Dr. Dershowitz has been my podiatrist for about two years an I've been very happy with the experience. Clinically I've had excellent results and his attention to detail is much-appreciated (for example numbing the foot before a procedure in a way as to minimize any discomfort from the injection). He has a knack for hiring friendly front desk and clinical assistants that fit the professional and friendly feel of his office. I had foot problems another Doctor didn't diagnose. I was apprehensive since my other Doctor wanted blood work and didn't seem to put stock in my issue. I was so VERY impressed with Dr. Lee. I'm an Independent Personal Trainer who also does a lot of hiking. After developing Plantar Fasciitis from repetitive hiking I was unsure how to move past the issue. A personal training client recommended Dr. Dershowitz as he had been treated successfully for the same issue. I have been seeing Dr. Dershowitz for approximately 6 weeks and have been overwhelmingly happy with the results we have achieved in a relatively short time period. I went to see Dr.Dershowitz ...(he is not a medical doctor) for numbness in my toe. He told me I had morton's neuroma, did an ultrasound and said ..see it ? I didn't know what I was looking at/or for just listened. He recommended surgery to remove it. He was pushing me to schedule surgery at that time and I said I want to think about this. I went for a second opinion to an Orthopedic Surgeon, a Medical Doctor / Surgeon. She ordered an MRI and there was absolutely no Neuroma! Makes you wonder...I would advise everyone to get a second opinion.! Surgery, in any form, should not be taken lightly! I would not recommend Southwest Institute. read more

I began looking for a Podiatrist because an old injury I had (1983) had begun to cause serious pain in my left lower leg and foot. I wasn't sure that much could be done with my old injury, but the pain I was experiencing didn't let up no matter what I did. My family doctor didn't have any podiatrist to refer me to, and so I began to search online to see whom I could find to help me. If you are reading this it is apparent that you have come to one of the same websites that I did. I was intrigued by Dr. Dershowitz' information on the MLS Laser, but I didn't really focus on it when I went in for my first consultation with him. After speaking with him I agreed to try the Laser, hoping that the benefits he spoke of would help to give me some relief. After 10 sessions, the results have been surprisingly dramatic. The scar tissue built up over the last 21 years, scar tissue that has severely impeded circulation in my right foot and leg, has been reduced dramatically. Swelling in my foot has dramatically decreased, and along with it I have increased range of motion, less pain, and better circulation. When we started the Laser treatments I honestly didn't believe that anything would help relieve my pain and discomfort. I thought that I would have to live with all of this for the rest of my life. I was wrong. Modern Medical technology, specifically this MLS Laser, has made a huge difference! I wish that I could post the before and after photos that I took during this process with this review, but apparently there isn't any way to do that. Make sure to ask about charges before allowing any injections to be performed by physicians here. The charge for an injection was $110.00, not even including the medication! That is $110.00 for about a minute of the doctor's time. Of course your insurance will not pay that amount, so you are left to "foot" that part of the bill for yourself. I paid for the medication separtately, because it was a homeopathic medication. So, for total charges of $320.00, I got an injection, and a presciption for anti inflammatory drugs. And I still have foot pain. read more

All the doctors here are exceptional and very friendly. I've had to have multiple surgeries, and this was the first I used the laser treatment, which helped tremendously after my surgery. Swelling and bruising was less, and the recovery tine was much faster. read more

Dr. D. is a terrific doctor! He has a great bedside manner and actually listens to what you have to say. He fully explains all of your options and works with you choose the best treatment plan for your problem. He also explains anything that your insurance will not pay for to allow you to make informed decisions on what you want to do. The women in the office are also great. I would like to recommend Dr. Dershowitz if you are experiencing any foot problems. He assesses your situation and will give you all of the options that he thinks would help. He is very upfront with you if there could be any out of pocket expenses that insurance will not cover. I have had 2 surgeries on my left foot over the past 2 years. One was for heel spurs and the other was for a spur on the top of my foot. The surgery center where the operations were done was also first class just like the Doc. read more
