This diner is really good. I was very pleased with both the service and food. I got the breakfast burrito. It was incredibly big and very filling. What made it better was the smothered green chile. The chile was not as spicy as other green chile in other states but it had a little kick to it. I would get this again. The service was also very good! This place is incredibly popular. We arrived on a Sunday morning about 9:00 AM. The parking lot was full to overflowing. They had a table, though. The venue is a very large diner with two dining rooms and a counter that wraps around three sides. The decor is pleasant but dark. They should, at least, use some lighter colors in the ceiling. The noise level was pretty high, but we could hear each other There is plenty of staff, it seems, but our waitress seemed a bit overworked. She was very pleasant and upbeat, however. The food: downside: coffee wasn't that great, and we never got a third refill, which wouldn't have been necessary if they had larger mugs. My wife's breakfast burrito was a bit cold. Upside: The menu is very diverse with some interesting items, such as the two chile rellenos, eggs, and country potatoes skillet i had. It was very good. Pueblo's only Monte Cristo Now that the Hanger Bar & Grill has closed for highway construction the Southwest Grill is the only place where you can get a Monte Cristo in Pueblo. We both ordered it with onion rings. Although both were fried too long the taste was decent. They were not the best I have had and not the worst. The fry oil was definitely fresh. The highlight of the Cristo sandwich was the gooey, cheesy inside. It was really filling so my wife and I could only eat half of it Our wait lady was delightful and attentive. She and the other wait staff were very active, even when not attending to customers. One even started to mop the floor in her section since it was close to their 2 P.M. closing time. The owner came out from the back about halfway through our service. He kind of looked lost since there was nothing for him to do because the staff was doing it all. Finally, he ordered his own lunch. It was the first time in my life that I have witnessed an owner eat his own food. Impressive! I knocked a star off due to the drab re-model that has been done on the facility. I am sure that it needed updated since this has been here for decades, but I just do not like the "flipper" style of dark ceilings and black and gray trim. Also, both the interior glass windows as well as the exterior windows were not at all clean. That is a big no-no for me. The menu is extensive and this place is VERY popular. Stopped by for breakfast. It's a shame this restaurant feels so grungy because the food is actually pretty good. I had the breakfast burrito and it was tasty. The green chile had perfect amount of heat and was a nice finishing touch having it smothered. I had a waffle and it was excellent. I don't think I'll return but it was worth trying. read more

Let me start by saying I really like the food here. Always good and plenty of great options. It's a wonderful spot for breakfast and one that I will likely return to in the future. Having said that, I do have a major complaint with the service on 11/21/23. I stopped in at 8:45 am to get some food before heading in to work. I did not get water and silverware until 9:15. It was another 10 minutes before a waitress came to see what I'd like to order, but at that point, I needed to speak with a manager. They were not very busy when I first arrived (business did begin picking up after that). Several customers arrived after I did and were waited on well before I was. When I brought up the issue with my server, she quickly blew it off and barely offered an apology. The manager only seemed to take the issue slightly more seriously but did not offer any kind of apology. He said he would talk to the server and that was the last I saw of him. After another 10-minute wait, the server returned but I just had to leave. Extremely disappointing and something I hope the restaurant addresses in the future for every customer who comes in. read more

AMAZING FOOD. My wife and I eat here whenever we are visiting from Colorado Springs. The monte cristo is great, I also like the volcano, but you really cant go wrong here. Southwest Grill is one of those places... this is a truck stop style, hash slinging, greasy spoon type of place that serves great diner style egg and sandwich dishes. Try the eggs and Italian sausage or a burger off the grill. Best bacon in town, cooked properly and a good portion. Decor is old, dated and tacky but that adds to the vintage charm. Put on your t-shirt, and ball cap and enjoy. January 2019. Place has gotten new tables, chairs, flooring and modernized look. Sorry for the greasy spoon description, didn't mean it negatively. Im giving this restaurant 2 stars because the food was okay. It used to be much better but has went down quite a bit. I will not however be returning anytime soon for the following reason..... This restaurant is one if the dirtiest places I have ever eaten. I dont think anyone has cleaned it in years. Just sitting at the table looking around at all of the filth grossed me out so bad I almost walked out. Makes you wonder if front if house is this bad what does the kitchen look like. It is obvious there is not one person in this entire establishment that takes any kind if pride in where they work. Update to this. I was back here with my folks last week and Fox so called news was on again. We asked the server if it could be changed and she came back and said that the manager said the TV had to be turned to Fox. So my mom told me that if that was the case this would be the last time we would be there. The manager then relented and agreed to turn the TV off. A couple solutions to this might be to have multiple TVs with multiple news sources, or just no TV at all. But if the owners of this place insist on having the Republican propaganda network spewing misinformation we will be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Wife and I went in for a late lunch about 2 p.m. on a Sat. Many menu items looked great but way too much food since we were going to a wedding reception at 5 where they were having dinner, so we ordered two different burgers. They were OK, although overcooked, but the toppings (mine, Pueblo chilis and jalapeno's, tomato. We thought it a tad expensive at $9 per burger and the patties weren't that large. Definitely like the food hair for the most part they're relatively consistent but I do have two issues which prevent me from giving this restaurant a 5-star review and that's the service can be very laxidasical and sometimes wait for over an hour and I also don't like that every TV just seems to have Fox News on a countless Loop this is very distracting and outside of that I really enjoy the place read more

Breakfast here is really good. The specials are cheap and come with a lot of food. Service is lacking though. While we got our food quickly, we never got drink refills. The waitress explained plates are prepared for small group before larger groups? Makes no sense to me, especially when a group of four is not actually a large group.? Go figure? Today, 2/21/19, was a beautiful day in Pueblo, so we, hubby and I decided on breakfast at Southwest Grill and even though we have had two semi-bad experiences we were hopeful. : / Hope flew out the window. Coffee was so weak it looked like tea and tasted like dirty water. However, the waitress was kind enough to make us a fresh, hot and stronger pot of coffee. After two fail attempts we finally got our coffee. Yeah... HOPE IS IN THE AIR. (((WRONG!!!))) After ordering we waited, and waited and waited, and finally the waitress came over letting us know our order was coming right up. So, we waited, and waited and waited... After 1/2 hr of waiting and the coffee incident we decided to leave. I got the waitress' attention to let her know we were leaving and to pay for our coffee. This is what happened next: Me: Miss we're leaving W: but your food is ready Me: no, sorry but we are leaving W: but your food is ready look it's right here (as she pointed to the food under the heating lamp) Me: no, we are leaving, I just need the bill for our coffee. W: hold on a min. (She starts talking to someone over the counter- kitchen area) I overhear her telling "him" *they're leaving *I put their order in over 1/2 hr ago * you want to talk with them? Waitress walks over to me and hands me the bill telling me she tried to get it comp'd. She also said she asked "him" to come out and talk with me, but he refused. I could see "him" looking at me giving me the stank-eye, so I asked to speak with "him" which happened to be the MANAGER! This was my conversation with Jim, the manager: M: Hi Me: Hi there, I'm not sure what's going on, but we never got our food, and we waited over 1/2 hr. M: your food is ready now. Me: no too late we're leaving. M: ma'am I had a large party come in, and "WE ARE NOT A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT" Me: (almost lost my temper) So, why would a couple who came in after us, sat next to us receive their food before us? And, if you want your customers to return you would -at the very least- apologize, and perhaps comp 2 $3 coffees. He, Jim turned around and walked away. Wow! I paid our $6 bill and left. Good place for breakfast!! The salad bar is very limited. The drinks are wonderful and their iced tea is excellent. They keep drinks filled well, too. The Country Fried Steak is very good. The Mexican dishes are average, nothing spectacular sticks out about them. The meats can be tricky, ask specifically for how you want them cooked. This was great! It was right next to the Super 8 where we stayed, and we went for breakfast. Passable coffee, but very attentive staff to keep it full. I got the "Tamale Skillet" and it had a great chile flavor that far surpasses Denny's or IHOP or any of the chain places. Friendly and attentive staff. I'd definitely go back. read more
