This has had to be the WORST experience ever. they quoted me $150.00 by the time I could get my boat out of there they charged me $2500.00 plus dropped my boat and left engine cover off and carburetor filter and it rained straight into engine. They also bullied us Brian and the manager. Truly this place deserves zero stars. The business practices are horrible. This is the only place I have seen where the owner, Brian Read can bill what ever he wants. No matter what the contract says. If anyone reads this do your self a favor and store some place else. read more

This is a great family owned business that tries its best to keep your expenses to a minimum. When Southwind opened their doors several years ago, their low storage rates forced all the other marinas in town to lower their own rates. I have stored my sailboat there for several years, had them do full service procedures, and also had them guide me through boat service and upgrades I was doing myself. They have been super easy-going, and super friendly the whole time. If you have distorted expectations, ANY business can seem like a total failure to you. If you know how boat yards work, where they lose money and where they make money, you will see that Southwind is doing a pretty great job. read more

South Wind Marina provided incompetent service on my Sailboat. A series of mistakes including bending my keel, I depart from this yard after the sheriffs marshal served mr brian reed a demand to release my boat after weeks of getting a run around. Steer clear of this Marina if you wish to avoid problems. read more

I wish it was possible to give a negative rating. Brian, the owner, is deceitful, lying, unethical so we're not even going to try to pursue justice. I wish we would have read the previous reviews before storing there last year-he can't keep good employees so the ones he has don't know or don't care-paying for winterization gets you cracked macerator, no consideration on promised scheduled launch date. A lot of sunshine blown up your ass with more promise of litigation if you try to pursue what's owed to you. Anyone thinking of doing business here, needs to stop and find any other possible options available. You will be burned here. I wish I could give no stars. My experience with Southwind was a straight-up nightmare. I work in retail sales and deal with a LOT of people - and a lot of strange people, at that. As a woman in a construction trade, I've also encountered quite a bit of discrimination. I'm not even sure if my experience is related to that, or just to having to deal with a vile human being. A ship owner contacted me directly about installing some carpeting on their ship. I've become quite popular in the marine world because we carry some really nice, but low cost commercial carpeting, perfect for ships, boats and yachts. This client found me through another boat owner and they were an absolute pleasure to work with! They were aware of exactly what they needed and how much. The positive experience with the marina they were parked at was an entirely different experience... When I went to measure, I felt like I was driving through the Elephant Graveyard from the Lion King. That is the only way to describe this place - a hobo village of vacant, dilapidated buildings and junky "boats" at all levels of neglect and disrepair - just perched atop storage racks. This place has to be one of the most unsafe places in the universe. The ship owner and his wife were just SO nice and that is the only reason I didn't drive away. This order was an insurance claim, and I was told that the marina was responsible for bashing in the side of this HUGE ship's fiberglass and steel walls. Oy. The ship was a MESS when I measured and was told they had been parked here, not operating for 180+ days. Another oy. I was told that because this was an insurance claim, the marina owner would be contacting me immediately to proceed. Almost two months later, the ship owner called me back in order to place the order and get started because the marina owner had made no progress. They were just going to general it themselves. Fine. I rushed the material and got the install scheduled, even moving clients out of the way in order to squeeze them in. The day of the install (actually TEN MINUTES before the install), Brian Read (the marina owner) called my cell phone (on my day off because I was graduating) to tell me he was turning my installers away no matter what and then he would be calling the police. Mind you, this is the first time I've ever talked to this man because he wouldn't take any initiative or return my calls. He turned our installers away in a dramatic, insulting display and demanded a bill and a certificate of insurance. An easy thing to do... and something he could have thought of the day before - or even the prior two months... Anyway, our office immediately faxed over a copy of the bill and I called our insurance company in order to have an insurance certificate faxed. Brian Read immediately turned off his fax machine and then harassed me via text about how he had not received anything and he knew we were scamming him with no insurance. Every time I tried calling him to get this straightened out, he would call me a laundry list of obscenities. Our poor installers were also subjected to his irrational and cruel verbal abuse. Even the text messages between he and I prove his unprofessionalism. Oy. About an hour later, the ship owner and I figured out we would have to outsmart this jag and emailed him the bill and insurance certificate, with both of us CC'ed in the email as proof he had received it. It worked. Almost two hours after we were due to start, he finally let our installers through and complete the job. Because of the unnecessary delay, it was a two day install, but it did get done and the ship owner LOVED it. Of course, he refused to pay us after the install and avoided me for days to avoid paying. He also made life a living hell of delays for the ship owner, even pulling their ship out of the water and preventing them from leaving, and presenting them with bills of late fees. What a mess. Eventually, we did get paid (without having to use any liens or anything). After all this, I cannot recommend this place, or recommend any living person with a soul to conduct business with this person. How places like this can continue to operate is baffling to me. I feel like the boats they have in storage have just been left there for 15+ years, based on how abandoned they look... what a mess. After reading the other reviews people have posted, that seems to be the case. Either way, this Brian Read character will get what karma is going to bring him either way. Int his life or the next, he will get his. I just hate for anyone else to fall prey to this marina's seemingly low fees and bait-and-switch tactics. read more

My boat was damaged during haul out. They claimed the boat was "like that", and after MUCH aggravated arguing, they performed the repair. Then, they decide my boat was larger than what was on the contract for over 6+ years, and charged me more for storage, just like that. Next, they put the boat in a part of the yead inaccessible to power and water, and claimed I had a hookup nearby, which was not true. To top it all off, parts were taken off my boat, and guess what? They have no liability of course. Not even a "sorry" or "that's unfortunate". I would recommend looking elsewhere for your storage needs. After this year I am done. It is shocking how they can stay in business. read more
