I've been going here ever since I was a little girl and recently got my hair done. They start braiding your hair and will come back and finish the ends. I got Senegalese twists and the woman who finished the ends and the top did not match and they looked crooked. Whatever I worked with it, however I called 3 times to get my edges redone because they had grown out and everytime I called they said they'll put me in and call me if they had spots to do them. No one ever got back to me even with my 3 times calling just to get some edges redone. I've been going here for 11 years and pay good money for my hair. I will never go back. I'm obviously not valued as a customer and just because someone has been going there doesn't mean you can get sloppy on their hair. So I'm done. read more

My daughter got her hair done and she love the way her hair looks. The stylist was very nice and was asking my daughter was she okay while she was braiding her hair. The stylist made sure she was not braiding too tight. The place is nice and the other stylists were nice. I recommend Sow Hair Braiding, and the prices are reasonable too. read more

I have been going to Sow's salon since I was 13 years old (I'm now mid 20s). I used to get braids--micros, box braids, corn rows, but I've graduated to weaves, which they also do extremely well. It's about $100 for weave and it takes them usually around 3 hours for almost a full head (I leave a little out on the part and edges and I buy the hair from Lugos in New York). I love this salon but I've noticed they're not getting much business lately, maybe because of the recession but It is the cleanest, most inexpensive hair braiding salon I've ever been to in New York or Philadelphia. Also $100 for weave is so affordable. They don't know how to style it, but the braids stay tight for 2-3 months. Africans always do braids best! read more

Its been about 10 yrs since i had braids and after visiting 3 hair braiding spots i chose this one since it had a/c (a plus), the floor was kept clean of hair and the braiders seemed professional. I made an appointment and brought my own human hair since i am allergic to kankolon. I decided to get "invisible" microbraids where only the roots are braided and the rest of the hair flows freely. I expected this to take 4-5 hrs max since it want like i was getting my entire head braided instead i was there 12 HOURS!! i think the braider was just a slow braider but she seemed to do good work. I think that another braider should have come to help.... i told her i was VERY concerned about my edges and it hurt a lot when she braided it. I told her to do them looser but they were still tight. She put a lot of grease in my hair. I can see how its nessary to use it but it got all over my extensions and i had to wash the hair soon as i got put of there. After staying so long i had hoped the braids would be perfect. Instead after washing it, all of my own hair sticking up from the braid was obvious and now the braids are looking frizzy after just 2 weeks. Other braiders in the salon did good work but i wouldn't go back to the braider i had. Id give the place 3 stars but because of the condition of my braids i give it 2. read more

I was called back regarding the same day appointment. However I misunderstood the woman doing my braids. I certainly didn't appreciate her tone. I understand wearing mask may cause communicating issues. However I wasn't rude I just politely asked for my money back. I wasn't satisfied with the service. The woman doing my hair took it very personal. I can see if I was loud by she kept saying she is the professional and if I didn't understand something I should have asked her. I'm not a child and will not let another grown woman talk to me anyway. If she was so much of a professional then the owner of the shop wouldn't have told me to call back due to this " professional woman" not being on time. In fact I wasn't press. I called back once to see the status and was happy to move on but the owner called me back. Honestly I believe the woman doing my hair had a color complex. Due to her own insecurities. I will NEVER recommend or go back to the shop. read more

Not a good experience. Went to get box braids and was in pain for the entire 7 hour process. The braider asked me continuously throughout the process if she was braiding too tight and I said yes, but she said she had to because my hair was short. I had to hold each braid at the root to stop her from pulling on my head so bad as she braided them all the way down. There are several braids where my hair is sticking out. She told me about 3/4 of the way in that it was happening and asked if she could cut it, of course I told her no! I would not go back to this salon. read more

I wanted kinky twists comparable to Nicole Ari Parker and I ended up with a style like Bob Marley. There are so many twists that I cannot style my hair at all; forget a ponytail. The hair is way too big and hard. I feel like I'm sleeping on hay! I went in at 9 a.m. and I was finished at 7:10! I don't like this look at all, but the braider did a very nice and neat job and was very nice to me. I wish I could've saved myself the $170 plus tip, but hey, you live and you learn! If I ever wanted braids, I'd probably visit this place again, but I don't think braids and twists are for me in general:) Updated: I suffered about 40% hair loss due to this mess. I only kept them in for three days! At the end of the braiding session, they use scissors to cut away the frayed ends and I said to myself, surely a professional would not cut my real hair...well, she obviously did and I am beyond livid and devastated. I had a head full of healthy hair and now I have chewed up ends like many of their clients. Never again! read more
