I admit it: I'm the type of reviewer who only writes these when service is truly outstanding or noticeably poor. Do with that what you will. That said, sadly this falls on the 'noticeably poor' end of my Yelp spectrum. Specifically, I feel it necessary to caution anyone wanting to get a salon service in Appleton to look elsewhere. It began when I made the appointment. The receptionist was noticeably unfriendly and rude. I don't live in the area anymore, so I'm fine with bluntness, but this very much felt like the receptionist was mad at me for even making an appointment. I chalked it up to the service industry being hellish right now and--because I was there for my sister's wedding and to see my best friend (who I hadn't seen in a year)--I agreed to pay the up-charge for the Friday/weekend appointment (believe it was around 15% more). At the time of my appointment, we were told to arrive early. We did, but it was unclear for what reason. The entire salon/spa area seemed like a forgotten space in the basement of this hotel (only two people were working that day). Think: old salon products on dusty shelves, askew chairs, open doors with cleaning supplies. We didn't fill out any paperwork and the woman doing our nails was actually running behind on a wax appointment, so we waited around for about 20 or so minutes. My friend and I each picked out a single color from the lackluster, minimal selection, still with high hopes. We talked to kill time until our manicurist arrived and began. However, about halfway through my pedicure, she got a phone call and left to attend to personal business--asking if we wanted water (we said yes, but it never came). Once the manicurist returned, she finished my pedicure and then my friend's manicure. After the weekend rate and 20% tip (because I'm not a monster), I probably paid around $250 for the manicure and pedicure service. Cut to the next day (my sister's wedding) and my friend and I both realize that our manicure and pedicure actually...aren't even complete? My friend's manicure was missing coats and had blank areas on her nails, and my pedicure (upon further inspection) was very light to be almost see-through (it was blue)--as if she forgot one coat as well (which would make sense since she was running behind; our appointment ran so long because she left halfway through). While I've heard good things about getting a massage here, I caution against booking any salon service. For nails, go literally anywhere else (I've heard even the place in the Fox River Mall is solid). The only reason I gave it one star (beyond the fact I had to) was because I'm assuming (since I haven't seen any problems) the utensils were at least clean and the manicurist was nice, even if she wasn't the best. read more

I brought my sister here for a birthday spa day and we are leaving here happy, refreshed and treated like royalty. We walked in this morning, about 1.5 hours before our appointment, because as a client you are able to use the whirlpool before of after your services at the Spa, and We wanted to take fill advantage of that! We were greeted warmly and brought to the dressing room which is beautifully decorated. Calming music is quietly pumping through the surround sound which INSTANTLY has you feeling blissful before your sessions even start. We were given robes, slippers and keys to the lockers to secure our belongings. We spent about 40 minutes in the whirlpool, then went back into the spa to shower before our appointment. When we were robed again, we went through a door to the "sanctuary", which is a beautiful sitting area with comfy chairs and couches next to a fireplace. They also offer a serve yourself tea and snack bar. I literally has the BEST cup of tea ever. It is called "Evening Comfort" I HIGHLY recommend having that when you are here. One of the things I love about this spa is their spa packages. It is a combination of different services, for an extremely fair price. Ex- massage, facial, mani and pedi... or massage facial, foot soak.. This is my fourth time taking advantage of them. And each visit has been five stars! Each service we had today was comfortable, professional and exactly what I. Had hoped for. We were able to meet Sue, the owner, who is an absolute delight to chat with. Very down to earth and personable. Really, All the staff i've come in contact has been this way. I left feeling both relaxed AND energized... didn't even know that was possible. But it totally is! When you sign up fora 30 minute massage, you expect 30 min massage. Not a 18 minute massage as they take time off to get on the table etc. The girl that did my pedicure was as sweet as can be. $60 for a pedicure, not bad. But that didn't include $45 to remove my polish on 2 toes. Who charges $45 to remove 2 toes of polish?. My toes were dry to the touch and so I put my socks on and once I got to the hotel, realized all my polish was smudged. I called immediately as I was from oot and was told I could come back and use the polish but I would have to polish myself. So...$105 + tip for them to tell me to come polish my own toes. I frequent many spas and this by far was my worst experience. read more

I do wish that they would bring back their higher end complementary shampoo, conditioner and body wash that would be in each shower stall, whatever is in there now is very very cheap quality and it shows. Came out on a whim to use a gift card. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. PSA: it is in the basement of the hotel but doesn't feel like it. When I arrived I was ushered into a changing room with lockers, showers, and a restroom. Lighting was low and calm. Everything was clean and they had amenities like hairdryers, q-tips, razors etc. I was told to put on a robe and slippers and move into "the sanctuary". Inside there were huge comfy couches with soft blankets and pillows. There was hot water for tea, iced water, agave, ginger and fig cookies to snack on while waiting for your appointment. My technician came and took me to my room. My table was warmed, which is a nice touch as my feet are always cold! I got an organic facial; the entire process pleasant and relaxing. Afterwards I was told I could stay and use their other amenities. I wanted to use the whirlpool; the only downside is it's outside the spa and you have to wait for someone to walk you to it to let you in. Upon checking out, Janie was super helpful and sweet. A bit pricey, and worth the massage and facial but spa is not worth the money. Cheap items products are bought for guest. No reading materials so waiting can be very odd. The nail salon experience was much lower than my expectations. Technician was in unorganized chaos from start to finish. while buffing my toenail, she cut me and it was bleeding. She put her finger over the bleeding spot and blamed me, asking if I pick at my nails. It took forever for my nails to dry and then they chipped two days later. I was looking forward to a hand massage since my spa manicure was for 60 minutes, but the massage part of it was only a couple minutes. I paid for 60 minutes, but ended up getting finished in 35 minutes and sat under the dryer the rest of the time. Very disappointing. read more

I stayed at the connecting hotel and booked a deep tissue massage and a facial. The facial was relaxing and professional done. However, the massage was the worst I have EVER experienced and I have had many. I booked a deep tissue massage, to only be told when I was undressed and in the room that the therapist could not do one. My 10 year old niece could give a better massage than this therapist. She was HORRIBLE. I had to advise her that her finger nails were ripping into my back and I could not take the pain, (not the deep tissue I was looking for) she had no idea what she was doing not well trained what so ever. For the owner of this spa you really need to look into her training. As amazing as my facial was this massage was so horrible I could not wait to get out of the spa. My boyfriend booked us a couples' massage weeks in advance. We got a call 2 hours before our appointment, day of, that the spa would be cancelling our appointment due to the two therapists scheduled had emergencies come up. Of course emergencies come up and that is completely understandable, the disappointing part is that fact that the customer service was nonexistent. The fact that a customer would lose out on 100% of the service charge if they didn't give the spa a 48 hr cancellation notice but the business can cancel 2 hours before that same service with no compensation or benefit for that customer to want to return is unfortunate. read more

Had a couples massage with my new wife on our honeymoon. The therapists were very attentive to our needs, adjusting pressure and technique as we gave feedback. They were communicative, but not disruptive, and let us enjoy the massage in quiet relaxation. The receptionist was friendly and informative. The changing areas were clean and well-stocked. The "Sanctuary" waiting area was a comfortable, quiet area to relax before and after the massage and provided a calm atmosphere as well as snacks and water. Horrible. The atmosphere is not at all like the pictures. Not at all a relaxing place. Everything is terribly cramped and congested. None of the services I or any of the ladies in my group received actually took the time they said they would. The "add ons" to the facials were not worth the extra $15. The technician doing my body treatment had her phone with her during my service. It was vibrating on and off. She even pulled it out of her pocket to text. We had a girls weekend booked which included a full day of services for four of us. We were told to be there 15 minutes early (we were there 30 min. early as we were staying at the hotel). Our appointment was to start at 9:00. We watched the staff wander around, watched a women get a manicure and we sat and sat and sat. We had to be there "early" yet we did not get into our the spa until 9:30. When they finally came to get us (BY THE HOTEL ELEVATOR ... Yes this is there waiting area.... Not relaxing as the hotel staff also uses this area) we were told that we were suppose to have filled paperwork out and get into robes. None of which were done as the desk girl did not know what to do. We had 5 services scheduled for each of us. The manicure girls did not seem to know what they were doing. Nail polish was left on the skin (my 8 year old can do better), another manicurist did not remove all the existing polish from the nails. (Nail Polish popped off 24 HOURS after applied in FULL nail sheets). In two of the services two of us ended up with "couples" services when we DID NOT book them that way. When we were receiving facials, the young girls were cleaning the space around the while we laid there. The so called sanctuary is CO-ED.... Yes us ladies sat in our robes while a husband and wife sat there in there robes. Our pedicures.... When asked if we would like a drink and we said yes that would be great we were given the "look". We had hair and make-up also booked and the hair styles were a joke! Make-up was great but when we asked to purchase the products they were using they said they do not sell it. They sent us to a store in the mall that then told us they had not heard of the products that we were looking for. When we were finally done for the day, we looked into the services we were suppose to get and EVERY service (facials, manis, pedis, hot stone massage and hair/make up)was cut short of the time and we were shorted services that were within the description. We called the manager that week and explained how disappointed we were and how many services we never received. She gave us a 10% cash back. I told her that we did not receive 30-40% of the services we paid for and that 10% does not make the situation "good". read more

Booked a weekend trip around a series of services at this spa only to have them call less than 24 hrs before our visit to tell us they didn't have enough staff. The owner then proceeded to make us feel guilty about her staffing issues and didn't offer any sort of remediation. Poor customer service means we won't be going back. The best part of this place is the ambiance, but even that seems a bit forced and less than practical as they've clearly compromised comfort for quaint. I took my girlfriend in for a pedicure and a manicure on her birthday, per usual. I also had a pedicure. While each of the girls we had for the various services were certainly nice, they lacked the skills required to consider it worth the price...and by a long shot. Everything was decent AT BEST. The pedicures take place around the backside of the cashier's desk. There are four tubs set along an arch shaped bench that has a three inch mattress which you sit on. There are large pillows to use as your backrest. This was comfortable for about ten minutes...then we became squirmy as we constantly had to reposition to find comfort. The bowls were quite shallow (well, maybe if they took out the decorative stones at the bottom this would be different) and wouldn't allow for submergence beyond the ankle. Being so shallow, the water for cool quickly. The girls mentioned that this was an issue but I guess the business preferred to leave the satisfaction up to the guest's requesting of new water rather than use something more practical...like a deeper, mechanized tub you might see at a nail place. The pedis were decent but far from the best I've had and nearly twice what I'm used to paying. My sports pedi didn't seem to have hardly any difference from that of my girlfriend. For the maicure, my girlfriend chose to have French tip done. It was such a shotty job that she couldn't get over it the entire night(her bday) or until it came off her nails. She chooses French tip almost everywhere she goes and has never had such low quality, again for the highest price paid. The tips were uneven as the woman used her own coordination to paint them on after putting on the base layer...she did not go back with the instrument we're used to seeing, where it exacts a line between the base and the white as it puts down another base. We tipped appropriately as we know this is their livelihood, but we strongly debated calling management to explain our displeasure. Considering they would likely just try to offer us more of the same crappy services, I decided to hold them accountable in this public evaluation so that others might be warned to SEEK OTHER OPTIONS!! Your money will be better spent elsewhere for manicures and pedicures in the Appleton area. read more

I've had several experiences at this spa. Two have been sub-par (a pedicure that was rushed and poorly done) and a massage (that was one of the worst I've ever had). However, yesterday I had the Lemongrass massage (a deep massage with a salt scrub) with Linna, and it was AMAZING! I wasn't planning to give the spa another chance, but got a gift certificate. I'm SO glad I did. Do yourself a favor and get the Lemongrass massage with Linna. While I can't recommend anything else, I'll DEFINITELY go back for that! read more

I scheduled a massage for a Saturday. Tuesday of that week we had to bring our Boston Terrier to the ER because she couldn't breathe. She was in ICU for the evening and had surgery the following day. We picked her up later Thursday and then had to keep an eye on her closely for the days that followed. So with that I completely forgot to cancel my massage appointment. A representative from the spa called me and I apologized over and over and explained my situation. Because they have a 48 hour cancellation policy I had to pay for the massage in full and they wouldn't allow me to rebook it. Now I completely understand that they have a policy in place, and I'm sure for good reason. I do however think it's terrible that they couldn't make an exception with all things considered or work with me a little on allowing me to reschedule and not have to pay 100% when I didn't even get a service. The next day, my girl friend went to get her massage and the staff notified her that they did not have my credit card info and that my girlfriend had to pay for the massage. I went here with my bridal party the day before my wedding. I brought 8 women with me and was treated poorly. When I asked to have a french manicure for MY wedding, the manicurist didnt even look me in the eye and told me no, that I should have mentioned that when I made my appointment. When she asked if they mentioned that when I made my appointment aboutnthat, I said no, but she still claimed she had "no time" to help me with my request. We also had the misfortune of being harassed by the receptionist when one of my ladies had a flat tire over 45 minutes away. The receptionist kept barking at us that she needed to know if she was going to show because "they need to fill that spot with someone who would actually show up." This is a nice spa for the Appleton area, but certainly not 5 star. Had a wonderful 60" massage on a Sunday am. There are, however, many areas in which the spa can improve. 1) The changing area and women's bathroom are tiny and too dimly lit to apply makeup and get ready afterwards, if that's what you're expecting to do, as I was. 2) There are not enough seats in the "sanctuary" area. I visited the spa with 4 other women and with the 5 of us, and 4 others waiting for/finishing services, it was standing room only. Definitely not great for groups on a weekend. 3) The tea and organic snacks are suboptimal for a spa - packaged green tea, peanuts in the shell, and plain crackers. I guess I've been spoiled with flavored teas, cucumber water and better snacks at spas in milwaukee. 4) No reading material anywhere. As I sat and waited for the rest of my group, I could have been catching up on gossip or the latest fashion, and instead took to my phone and wrote this review. Bottom line- had a great massage at a fair price ($90), but the experience left much to be desired. read more

Spa for the "unspa-ed". I recently visited for the first time after I was given a gift certificate for services. It was a MUCH needed visit, and I have to say that I found the services to be exceptional. I received an hour long massage from a therapist who was very knowledgeable and friendly. The pedicure I had was perfectly done and the technician who did it was kind, friendly, and very skilled. The organic facial was by far the most superior service, provided by a new addition to the staff who had once been an esthetician in China. She was also friendly and kind, and did an incredible job. If I had never been to a spa before, I would probably think this was an amazing experience. The space is very nice, but is small and the sanctuary is set up so that simply by entering, you feel as if you are invading the space of the people already there. I would have liked some time to appreciate the sanctuary, but it seemed that barely minute after I got there between services, I was being ushered off to the next one and at the end, was quickly ushered into the locker area to dress and exit. That didn't feel very relaxing! The robes and slippers/spa shoes available are not very comfortable also, and the changing/shower area is very poorly lit. In fact, in the shower, there is no light in the shower proper, only in the outer area!If I had never been to a spa before, I may have thought that this was all normal, but as a well-traveled spa goer, I had a lot to compare to. Compared to other spas (even somewhat local in Green Bay or as far as Milwaukee), it was nice and adequate. For the Appleton area, it was reasonably priced and staff was friendly. If you're looking for an exceptional experience, you probably want some place a little more sophisticated. If you're looking for an experience to match a small city and reasonably cost, this is definitely worth your time and money. read more
