"JLK" stands for "Just Like Kandy". Cornita "Ms Kandy" Horne makes all her own products and they are very nice. She does manicures and pedicures. I got a couple Shellac manicures from her, but it ruined my nails. Now I just have her give me pedicures with regular nail polish. Kandy is very reasonably priced for the services she gives, and she is also a very nice person! But don't get to your appointment early as she is always about 10 minutes late for mine. read more

If I could give this place six stars, I would! I found Spa JLK while searching for black owned nail salons in Durham while I was on vacation in the area. I came in on my birthday ready to relax, decompress, and pamper myself, and my expectations were exceeded. The small, appointment only setting made me feel like I was important. The level of privacy allowed for me to get to know the salon owner and we spend the entire appointment talking and laughing. She gave me knowledge and insight about how to take care of my hands and feet, something that's never happened to me at a salon. Her natural products had the BEST fragrance. I have naturally long, strong nails, and usually nail salons ruin them with harsh products. But not here, Mrs.Cornita used my natural nails and made them look like million dollar nails. At the end of my appointment, she walked me through all of her handmade products, and I ended up buying several from both the men's and women's line. Overall, if you're looking for an intimate setting, an owner who truly values your time, and products that are carefully created, this salon is for you. I used a LivingSocial voucher for mani/pedi. I agree with an earlier review from February 2013 that it should not have been advertised as such. To start with, Ms. Kandy brought out a dish pan full of warm water for me to soak my feet in. This was not a neat spa container specially designed for this purpose, but literally a a dish pan that you would buy at Wal-Mart. The pedi itself after the soak was OK, but nothing that would encourage me to come back. For manicure my nails were simply filed, polished, they never even got into soak of any kind. Ms. Kandy was snacking on nuts between polishing my nails at that point. To top this with the fact that the whole place was in need of good cleaning...the only reason this business is still in business is because people keep buying LivingSocial vouchers to this place hoping for a good deal which it is NOT! read more

My experience was not the best. I waited over an hour total after having to re-book my appointment because the manicurist was not ready. It was advertised that I would "be treated to an exfoliation, moisturization, and nail and cuticle trim." In actuality my nails were simply filed, polished, and then I got to wash my own hands. This should not have been advertised as a manicure. It is hard for me to imagine that the service I received was worth $40. The only good thing I can say is that my polish looked nice once she was done. read more

I got a shellac manicure from Kandy using a Living Social voucher initially, and have been going back every 3 weeks for a new one -- the polish doesn't chip for at least two weeks so while they're more expensive than ordinary manicures they last longer and look better. I recommend her. read more

Spa JLK is poorly marked-no sign on the outside and hard to find. Ms. Cornita was late for the mani appointment (waited 10 min in my car and was about to leave when she rolled up). She never even apologized for being late, so unprofessional! She was rude-ignoring me the whole time. Just ended up chatting with her friend later while i was there. Told be it would be half the cost of what she ended up charging me! Will definitely never come back. read more

I first visited JLK when it was based at a salon. It has since grown and is now being operated in a more quaint personal space. It's not as convenient, BUT the service is still great, which makes the trip worthwhile. She's a nice person and time flies while you're yapping. I had a berries and bubbly pedicure. The products are all made by JLK, and are super moisturizing, and smell phenomenal. i have purchased products from her including cupcakes, bath bombs, lotions and scrubs. read more
