Went in for simple pedicure. Ended up having to file some of my nails because they were crooked! Worst was when after 20 minutes of drying time because they had to dilute the polish I picked, I messed up a nail. Instead of having me take off my shoe, they propped it up and used acetone to remove the polish. I told the girl to stop she was getting acetone over my new shoes. She said it was only water. What water??!! Brand new Birkenstocks ruined! I asked them to help me and lady who must own the place said "Accidents happen" while laughing at me! Not even a we are sorry! I have been a loyal customer to Fancy nails since 2017 when I moved back to the area. I must say I've always loved getting my nails done and have been to plenty of different places, but when I came to fancy nails I kind of never went back to anyone else due to how great they are with nails and also how professional and understanding they are. I've been coming to this salon for 5+ years for gel polish manicure and spa pedicures. Always happy with my technician Amy, who is great! Never disappointed, always tip over 20%. She even arranges her schedule to come in early if I need to. Very accommodating and friendly. Then prior to a 2 weeks long European vacation this past October, I knew a gel polish manicure just wouldn't last, so I asked the scheduler for someone who does gel overlay nails and a gel polish pedicure. I was scheduled with Mia, another long time nail stylist. The pedicure was great! However, the gel overlay nail part was switched to a Gel-X stick on nails. I keep explaining what I want but I guess I didn't say the right words. Anyway, my nails are curvy and have high apex, so while the gel-x looked good from the top, the underside was raised and had spaces between the natural nail and gel-x extension. I was not happy with this and stated as much, asked them to be removed and do something else. I was pressed to explain what kind of gel manicure I wanted and told them "the kind that is like polish and brushed on then hardened, and then use a polish." (I didn't know the actual term for this was 'gel builder gel'). She again asked why I don't like them and I showed her the underside of the nails and told her I thought they looked cheap and ugly. Even tho they were removed and switched to another nail stylist for a SNS (dip) service, I still gave Mia a $20 tip for her effort. The nails did last and looked great for the duration of my trip and I've been doing SNS since. Recently I wanted to go back to gel polish manicure to give my nails a break, and rebooked with my regular stylist Amy (who does not do SNS). Well, I just received a call from the salon that they are cancelling my appt as Amy doesn't feel as if I'm a good client, and that am highly critical of her nail service. E-gads! Really? After 5 years she has decided to ghost me based on my interaction with her friend Mia?! I believe she is sticking up for Mia, who I was critical of. Amy never refused an appt before this episode. And she is great! If you want a fantastic gel polish manicure, ask for Amy.....and tell her Cary sent you. Karma! read more

I am visiting in Durham NC for the Carolina Bowl Youth showcase. I took my 14-year old daughter here today (Dec. 30th) for 1 nail repair.... YES you read correctly- ONE nail repair. Only to be told "sorry ma'am we are extremely busy and booked". There were 3 white ladies receiving pedicures and one white lady waiting. As you probably guessed my daughter and I are black. I have enjoyed this salon for a couple of years. It is quiet and they usually accommodate walk ins. The technicians do a fairly good job, and the prices are average. However, I have become increasingly alarmed that the technician use their own, not always clean, nails as manicure tools. As an other reviewer put it, they drag their own nails around the cuticle to clean up the polish. They also press down very hard with their nails on the side of the client's in order to file the corners-- so hard in fact that I once had a cut. And this continued, even tough I asked them several times to stop. This can't possibly be sanitary-they have to sterilize all their instruments , but then use their nails as a tool.... I'm sorry that I won't be returning. This practice shows a disregard for hygiene in general. read more

Called, they accepted my appt right then which I loved BUT! I got a half done mani pedi....the pedi was not good. The only touching she did to my feet was tools on my toes and polish...zero massage! The pedicure experience was good. Massage was good. But my pedicure is not lasting. One week later and my French pedicure is chipping. Sucks that the reviews are so spotty, because this was such a lovely find! I struggle with finding nail salons that aren't too pricey but still do an expensive-looking job, and this was definitely the place. I didn't catch the name of my nail technician, but she was so kind and did a wonderful job updating my gel manicure! I'm trying to grow my nails out so I can get an almond shape, but I don't like my nails overly-rounded, and my nail tech did a really great job shaping them for an in-between look. I also didn't make an appt and just walked in, and they were able to see me right away. Final cost was $30 + tip, which is the best pricing I've found for gel color replacement. I was very concerned about using a salon so early in the pandemic but the owners have done an excellent job of keeping the customers safe. I had a pedicure and they did an amazing job. The polish is still intact weeks later. I didn't feel the need to interact with Staff so we just got to business and it helped that I selected the service prior to appointment and confirmed via phone so when I arrived, I picked a color and went directly to the chair. Customers are spaced apart- more than 6 feet. No customers allowed in "waiting area". Plexiglass is up to keep everyone safe and masks are on at all times. Will I go back- yes as long as the social distance and mask rule stays in place. read more

Even the pedicure chairs had glass ganging in between you and the person doing your pedicure and at least 6ft away from the next person. One thing I simply cannot tolerate in a business is deception and greed. They charge more than advertised, as another reviewer stated. It is advertised the mani/pedi combo is $45, and I was charged $58 (the nail tech even insisted she was giving me a "discount"). She claimed they changed their prices but had not updated their price list yet. How is this legal? I came here today for a basic gel manicure and a regular pedicure. To start, the pedicure sucked. My technician barely rubbed my feet and the massage chair wasn't in working order. The water was lukewarm. I'm an ER nurse - my feet ache all the time, and was really disappointed as I was looking forward to this the most. She rushed through it and did a pretty terrible job (see photo). She did a pretty abysmal job on my cuticles, and I had to switch the color I chose for my nails because it was dried up. I would appreciate it this particular technician used a properly sanitized tool to fix her mistakes, instead of constantly dragging her own dirty nail around my cuticles to clean up the lines. Speaking of sanitary tools, there was a lot to be desired in this aspect. The place is gross and there isn't anything "luxury" about it, which is surprising given the location. I didn't see her clean a freaking thing. Plus, you know your mani isn't going well when another technician keeps coming over to inspect my nails and point out mistakes. I got pretty flustered at the $58 price tag for a really crappy pedicure and just ok manicure. She massaged my hand for about 30 seconds, my cuticles still look pretty bad, never really massaged my feet, was more focused on talking about me to her coworkers than actually doing my nails properly. I paid the $58 even after I pointed out she was over charging me, & the nail technician was upset I didn't tip, and started yelling at me on my way out the door. I used to really like Luxury Nail Spa, but after my last trip there, I probably won't be back. Pros: - nail techs are mostly friendly - they just got new chairs, which are great - affordable Cons: - some of the nail techs are really unfriendly - had to go back to get nails redone - overcut my cuticles and two of my toes are red + sore - dilute their polish I went in last week with my mom and sister to get pedicures. The experience was pretty pleasant with the exception of my cuticles getting over cut and then bleeding. My sister and I chose the same polish. Later that night I realized that pretty much all of my polish was gone, but since I'm a klutz, sometimes that just happens, so I called my sister to see if hers was messed up too. It was also completely gone even though we'd waited the alloted time under the dryers and hadn't been wearing close toed shoes. She called back + they said to come back in to get a polish change, no problem. When we went back in the next day though, it was a different story. We started getting yelled at that this was our fault, we hadn't waited for them to dry and sometimes that just happens. We hadn't said it was their fault, we just wanted to have a pedicure that lasted for more than a day. We weren't expecting to get yelled at. Odd thing is though that we brought in our own polish and it hasn't so much as chipped since. I'm assuming that they dilute their polish which is why it came off so quickly. If you go there, bring your own polish and it should be fine. read more

First off - the positives! Not bad, and I'd definitely go back. The place itself is very nice and relaxing and puts you in a good surrounding where you feel like someone is really going to treat your tootsies. The chairs are excellent, and I did quite enjoy that little massage. My feet still look pretty good over a week later. The bad, however - the polish on my toenails themselves never really seemed to have that "just had a pedi" look. You know, that glitzy sheen? Part of it has to do with the color I selected (GO HORNS!), but at the same time I know I shouldn't be able to see the tips a week afterward. I did have to wait quite a while, but I didn't mind so much since I had people to chat with and magazines to read. If I had been there on my own, I probably would have walked and gone elsewhere. Oh, and the weirdest part - I asked if they do waxing, and I got a nod.. no sales pitch or the automatic ask if I'd like to get my brows done or anything like that. Worst experience EVER!! Being amongst the Duke community, you would EXPECT better service. The nail tech not only left dip powder in my nails AFTER she electronically filed too far down on my real nails, but she also was in the middle of a pedicure stopped to check on my nails and with WET GLOVES from someone else's foot water grabbed my hands and begin messing with the foil. Unsanitary, you say the least. When I asked her to take the gloves off, she caught an attitude. After I paid, I left without getting a new dip powder set. My nails speak for themselves. I asked to speak with the manager or owner and was informed that they are out of the country. Tyrbnailntech asked," what's wrong with you?" Treated myself to a Mani-Pedi after a long week at work. I've been here a few times before and this was probably the best experience I had, maybe even my best ever pedicure. I got to soak my feet for a few minutes before the pedicure and was offered a drink. The "basic pedicure" lasted about 40 minutes and included the perfect amount of massaging-scrubbing-hot toweling. I added the milk+honey exfoliation for an extra few dollars-definitely worth it. My toes look great, and heels are finally smooth! Mani was good too, but pretty standard. The atmosphere was relaxing. I don't know if it was because they were packed and rushing (seemed like a lot of Duke soon-to-graduate gals were getting their nails did), but my recent visit here was such a disappointment! I was a walk-in, and they did squeeze me in with no wait. Also, the chairs are still marvelous. But that's about where positives stopped. It had been since before winter that I'd treated myself to a pedi, so my feet were looking pretty neglected, and I was looking forward to treating myself in celebration of sandal weather. I upgraded to the deluxe. Firstly, my technician barely clipped my nails back, though I requested it. He also buffed each nail with about two swipes (I have ridiculous, quite evident ridges on two of my toes!). The nails weren't shaped with a file *at all* and are uneven. My reflexology massage was not as good as last time; it seemed unfocused. But it did at least last the full appointed ten minutes. With my polish done, I sat down for everything to set and noticed that one toe nail wasn't even fully painted to the side. There was already someone new in my chair, so I just let it go. But I have to say, I'm not sure I'd come back. Honestly, I could have given myself a more professional looking pedi at home! read more

I was in Durham visiting friends, and three of us ventured to Luxury Nail Spa on Saturday afternoon for mani-pedis. I was impressed by the size of the place. They were able to seat us all together, right away, despite having a steady stream of customers (although we did beat the rush of collegiate women who arrived around 4:30). The nail techs and choices of magazines (we all know how important this is) were great. The spa chairs were the nicest ones I've seen in all my adventures with nail salons -- we all enjoyed the massage component of the chairs. I requested a polka dot design on my nails, and the nail tech took a lot of extra time to do that for me. The finished product looked awesome, and the total cost only came to $45 ($35 for the mani pedi, plus $10 for the design on both hands and both feet). In California and various hotels I've stayed at, manicures alone can cost that much. For $35, the basic manicure and pedicure at Luxury is a great deal. Luxury Nail Spa ties with Bliss SF for best-nail-experience-I've-had. Bliss has an overall edge on chic-ness, but the prices at Luxury can't be beat. read more

This was my second time at Luxury Nail Spa - and my last. The nail tech clipped the corner of my toe nail and I started bleeding. I was waiting for him to say something, but he said nothing. I pointed it out to him and asked him for some hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean the cut and he gave me something to put on the cut then proceeded to tell me I had a hang nail and that's why I was bleeding. No apology was given. I was with a friend so I finished up the pedicure, because I didn't want to cut her experience short. I think it is awful customer service, but not to mention ... gross or unhygienic about that whole experience. And when I was leaving I had to find the guy to ring me up.
