My wife and I were in Short Pump and decided we wanted to schedule our couples spa day so she called the Short Pump location. I was sitting beside her and they were on speaker phone while she scheduled. They kindly asked if "your husband" would be ok with a male massage therapist. This is a no for me and always will be. It's my personal preference and will never change. My wife said no and they told us it would be about a month before they could accommodate us. We showed up on our scheduled date after working extra late the day before because it takes us an hour to drive to this location and we know it would take up our whole day. After sitting in my sauna for 20 minutes I sat there waiting for 10 minutes for my therapist, who, to my surprise was a male. I explained I did not want a male therapist. He was polite and I thought was going to tell me to wait a few minutes while he figured this out. Instead he said "go ahead and get dressed and go to the front". So that's what I did expecting an employee or manager to come figure out what needed to be done. It's also important to know once he told me this I told him to tell my wife because I know she would have gotten up and left. He said to me "Oh, she's probably started her treatment". He did not walk me to the front or talk to me after in any way. The staff sat at the front desk whispering back and forth so much that I felt uncomfortable and decided to wait outside. 2.5 hours later I get a call saying it's time for my facial. I explained what happened and told them it was a terrible experience and they said sorry and I won't be charged. She also said she would have a manager contact me. Guess what, not contact has been made to me directly. However, my wife called and let them know just how bad and unprofessional this experience was. The manager, Kendall, agreed and said this is unacceptable and she was going to contact upper management to see what they could do. After Kendall failed to contact my wife as promised she called her. Now Kendall told my wife I lied, that never happened, there staff did nothing wrong and they could offer me 20% off if I come back in. Let me be clear on how I feel about Scents and Serenity. I would rather chew my own fingers off than step foot into that spa again. I will eat the money I wasted on this place rather than be treated so badly, called a liar and listen to the excuses the staff made to protect their mistakes. It was clear and I heard my wife directly state I wanted a female therapist and they agreed and scheduled a later date. Oh, let me also explain that my wife probably hadn't even started her session and had a female therapist. They easily could have corrected this by switching. We would have been completely fine with that. And time wasn't an issue. We started 10 minutes early to the excuse of "you wouldn't have gotten all your time" is irrelevant. Look, I'm sure people may love that place. Everything is good until it isn't and the way the manager handled this showed my their attitude towards all their clients behind closed doors and money is the only thing that matters to them.

The owner offered me incentives to stay during our cancellation meeting that I was REQUIRED to attend in person, although I was able to join over the phone. The reasons I wanted to cancel initially are. due to getting a facial with a full face of make up on (it was not removed by the esthetician). I booked appts. for 12 and 1pm that was somehow changed to 12 and 2pm which caused me to wait an hour between services. I had to cancel the membership in person :( During the meeting to cancel the membership the owner offered two incentives to provide her with feedback and possibly convince me to stay a member. During the 2nd visit to get both services there was so much confusion about what I was offered it ruined that experience just like the first time...When I went to check out, they attempted to charge me for one of the services because the owner never notated my account like she committed to doing during the meeting. They had to call her to get her approval to comp my services and even then, she kept saying only one service was complimentary. When that is not what she committed to during the meeting. A spa is there for self-care, self-love, and relaxation. Not to be mistreated and lied to multiple times. During the meeting I explained that I was cancelling my membership. This was in December I was credited 79.95 for November but was not credited for December, January and what is now February's drafts from my account. 79.95 totaling 239.85. this is unacceptable!!! No matter how many times I call, I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to be refunded. I get offered to make an appointment which will never happen again. I've spoken to Kinjel, Emerald, Ashley, and one other person, none of whom have resolved the issue in a satisfactory manner so now they get this poor review so that others will know NOT TO USE HAND AND STONE MECHANICSVILLE EVER 1 star was too much

The owner clearly put a lot of thought into the design of the space, and the serenity really comes through. This is not in my attached pictures, but I was obsessed with the lighting and canopy ceilings. Everything also felt super new and clean. I had Camryn as my head spa therapist, and she did a FABULOUS job. I LOVED the head massages. Facials and hand/arm massages were included as well which were a lovely addition. I would definitely recommend Camryn and this spa overall if you're looking for a space to find some peace and relaxation.

It was without question, the best massage I've ever received. It was apparent in the first few minutes that Nicole not only understood massage, but also was well educated on the anatomy of the human body in a way that felt very precise. I never felt uncomfortable, and rather, was able to fully relax and feel cared for in a way that made the aching shoulder that brought me in, about completely disappear. There were moments where I was in so much pain I almost tapped out. The other employees from the guest relations to the nail artists and other massage therapists were top notch. The atmosphere is a little underwhelming as you have to walk through a gym to get there and the spa is quite small but it was worth the skill and customer service that all but one employee offered!
