I had my brows tatooed and went with the powder type as Betty said it was the softer way to go. I am a small gal with thin hair and sparse brows but liked my shape I just wanted it filled in no blocky stamped bold look just natural. As I was on her table and in complete control I felt her shaving my brow, I wondered why she was doing that. Turned out she shaved where my brows where they went softly down toward my nose and lifted my tatooed brows to come to a very harsh blocky look that gave me a very mean look. Betty is a true brow artist! I went in for microblading on 06/20 and she really took her time to explain the process, discuss the shape and color. Betty really made me feel at ease, although I was nervous, I was really excited. I've been following her on Instagram so I knew her work would be awesome. As far as the process goes, I waited in my car until she texted me that she was ready. I went in (wearing a mask) and filled out a little paperwork, then we got started straight away with what kind of brow I was looking for etc. I won't go into it, she'll explain all of that at the appointment. Also, the procedure itself was painless and didn't take very long. Betty applies a numbing cream. The appointment is scheduled for 2 1/2 hours, please don't rush this or be late. This isn't a process you want to rush through. I'm so happy with my new brows and I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. read more

I have been coming here since last summer 2016 for all my lash needs. I have been to a handful of places around Portland for lashes and none of them have impressed me more than the service and quality at Spades. 1) Long lasting volume lashes. With proper care, expect your lashes from Spades to last over a month rather than the normal two week lifespan of lashes from other places. 2) Professional and personable service. There was one time when they used a new glue on me and my lashes fell out faster than normal. When I alerted them to this, they quickly fitted me in their schedule to fix their mistake. No weird tension or questioning like other places. 3) Customizable lashes. The gals here know what is flattering to your eye shape and will customize a length and fullness to meet your needs. As for my brows, the microblading books recently opened up and Betty gave me the most beautiful microbladed brows (with microshadow combo). I had them done today! I will upload pictures once they heal. I waited a few months for an open slot but it's worth the wait. Betty is a wonderful person to work with - she is kind, attentive to detail, a perfectionist to a fault (all love) and does amazing work. I will continue to come here for my beauty needs. Betty at Spades is a true artist! I had my first microblade eyebrow treatment yesterday and woke up the first time in my adult life this morning feeling pretty. I have naturally blonde hair and eyebrows to match so have been drawing them in for years. I have never been happy with the time it took as well as how drawn in brows looked. Three months ago I reached out to Betty and was surprised that the wait would be 3 months but determined to have the procedure and impressed by her portfolio I booked then impatiently waited haha let me tell you it was 150% worth the wait! The salon is beautiful and treatment area incredibly clean( i run a surgery clinic so this is super important) as well as comfortable. The actual procedure was painful but not unbearable. The pic in my profile is me yesterday 2 hours post procedure. I love how they look and am excited to see the final result once they heal and I get the 2nd touch up in a month. I've had my brows microbladed multiple times with multiple artists over the past 10 years and no one has done as good of a job as Betty! I have almost no brows plus orange remnants of previous work so I'm sure they are difficult to do. Other places have told me to get laser treatments first, but Betty was able to neutralize the orange color. I'll definitely need a touch up but I couldn't be happier with the first session!! I had been following Betty on Instagram for many years since several of my friends have had their eyebrows done by her. After being convinced that I will not regret it, I booked an appointment last September. Betty is truly knowledgeable and caring when it comes to eyebrows. I relied on her expertise to recommend either microblading or powder (ombre) brows. Since I have oily skin, she recommended that I go with powder as it would last longer on me. She spent extra care and time helping me select the right color for my brows, then pre-shaping several times to ensure I was happy with the shape. EVERYONE is different. ** IF YOU READ ANY PART OF THIS REIVEW PLEASE READ THE PARAGRAPH BEFORE THE PHOTOS, AS TO MAKE AN INFORMED AND EDUCATED DECISION ** First and foremost, I will say that I'm Irish - with fair, thin, pink undertone, combination skin, and dirty blonde hair - naturally. However, since middle school I've been coloring my hair dark brown, and filling in my lack of eyebrows with every possible combination of brow filler in existence. When microblading became a thing, I instantly started researching techniques, places (in PDX and CO) and saving funds. Betty is the sweetest gal ever! I made an appointment for a microblade + microshade combo at Spades Beauty, after researching places in the Portland metro area for about a year. Once I finally found the salon, which is a bit tricky to get to (it's on the backside of a plaza with a small sign and many other business advertisements) Betty was so nice, and made me feel welcome. I went in on a Friday for a noon appointment (and left at about 2ish) so I already had my brows done from having been at work that morning - see photos. Betty and I discussed pigment shade for a quick minute, as it was very obvious that I preferred a darker brown than my natural (eyebrow) hair color, and based on how dark I color my hair, Betty agreed. She said, rather than taking off my brow pencil, and having to align and reshape my brows for the stencil, she would just outline over the brows I had made, and I thought that was fine. She then applied a topical numbing gel and let me sit for 30 minutes. The actual blading was fine, and Betty checked in often to make sure I was ok. She worked for a while, and then gave me a mirror to check my brows, and I indicated a little bit on the tail of one brow that I wanted extended. She happily lengthened it, and then we agreed that we were done. She gave a very informative and direct guide on aftercare, as well as a little kit, which I thought was very sweet and appreciated very much. I paid, and she gave me a found farewell, and even said I could text her if I had an immediate need/question. All in all the experience in the salon was wonderful, and I will be seeing Betty soon for a touchup! You can see a video of my brows immediately after, on the Spades Beauty Instagram (from January 12th 2018). My results are 100% MINE. They are affected by everything about my specific skin type and my diligence in proper aftercare. I followed the guide given by Betty at Spades Beauty exactly, to ensure proper healing. I did not sweat, consume caffeine or alcohol, two days prior to my appointment, and I did not sweat (work out) for 10 days after my appointment. I have numerous, large tattoos which have all healed perfectly, and have had pigment based laser hair removal - on other parts of my body - with normal results. I wish I could say that my microblade + microshade combo made my brows flawless and that I haven't had to fill them in again. But that is not the case for MY SPECIFIC CIRCUMSTANCES - MY RESULTS ARE NOT GOING TO BE THE SAME FOR EVERYONE. So, I will be getting a touch up by Betty at Spades Beauty, in hopes of achieving the look I desire for my brows. I was in desperate need of a fill in due to my lash technician's cancellation at a different salon. Most places were booked and I was leaving for vacation in three days! After 4 hours of searching, Yelping, etc., I was ready to give in -- until I received a text from Betty who received the message I left at her salon. Betty is amazing. I spent years obsessing over brow tattoos and microblading but finally had the courage to get it done. Before my appointment I was extremely nervous, I had concerns of my brows being done in black and having it fade blue, or in brown and having it fade orange. After talking to Betty she reassured me that it wouldn't happen like that because she knew what she was doing. She worked with me to pick a dark brown color which was perfect because it's the color I use to fill in my brows on a daily basis. Before she got started we discussed how I wanted my brows. Personally, I'm not really good at knowing exactly what I want because I usually feel that the artist/professional would have a better eye for these things.
