I distinctly remember driving down the main strip of Beverly Hill's, with all the familiar restaurants on either side of the street, when a sign caught my eye. It was Spago - decidedly Italian, and definitely new. We were just talking about making some pasta at home, but seeing the fresh pasta in the window meant dinner in my mind was already decided. I was more than a little excited approaching the new restaurant - first seeing the strands of freshly-made spaghetti in yellow, green and red hanging in the window and I knew we were in for something special. Although I was tempted to order the pork belly (as always), I resisted long enough to peruse their freshly made pasta dishes I kept seeing about the restaurant. In the end we ordered the squid ink spaghetti with blue swimmer crab meat and cherry tomatoes, the campanelle napoletana pasta with beef ragu, mushrooms and truffle oil and a side of chips with truffle aioli that we couldn't resist (see their delicious menu here http://goo.gl/QgXKw). We were fighting over the squid ink spaghetti but in the end we decided to share the two among us. I have to say that both dishes were delicious, but the squid ink spaghetti was really, really good -although I couldn't taste the squid ink at all (I expected a salty or vinegary taste); I loved the crab meat and the lightly peppery sauce. Service was lovely and attentive. Perfect restaurant for a night out for two.

We all had the dinner combo for $39pp which includes choices of an entree, a main, a dessert, and coffee/tea. The portions are generous an tet won't skimp just because it's asset combo deal. The grilled baby octopus salad was great with lots of octopus and rocket lettuce. The lobster bisque risotto was topped with a generous portion of prawns and scallops but I may try something else next time. The pana cotta was really nice for dessert as was the tiramisu. Verdict: the dinner combo is a great deal if you have the appetite

Delicious food! Went here as my going away dinner from my last trip to Australia. Randomly stumbled upon it and it turned out to be a great find! Little pricey but well worth it! Incredible flavors!

Review Highlights - Spago

The lobster bisque risotto was my favourite and the squid ink pasta with crab meat was pretty good also.

The staff offered crayon for my kids to draw on the table, and politely almost apologetically informed us when one of their specials were not available. - The Wagyu Beef Ragu Pappardelle was delicious. Now the negatives: - Portion was too small. - The Seafood Risotto that my husband had hardly contain any seafood in it. There were tiny pieces of fish, cut pieces of prawn and that's it. For $21.8 a plate we expect to see on the plate at least some mussels, a few pieces of fully intact prawns in all their glory. When we ordered seafood risotto, we want to see seafood and not just a soupy risotto with a few cut pieces of what looked like leftover seafood they found in their fridge. - The Australian Pizza though delicious was again sparse in toppings. In summary, it was pretty average. I was expecting more, but at least everything was delicious. Tip: they don't take Eftpos and Amex, and charged 3% if you pay with credit card.

Bit pricey, but you definitely get flavour for money…read more Friendly service, great food, fast without taking shortcuts - did I say great food? The mixed pasta platter is brilliant value and a great way to get a bit of a few pasta dishes. The pizzas, as the waiter said, "the large includes a few slices for breakfast" :-)

If Napoli style pizza is your thing (and by now dammit it should be), then you need to get here…read more The local area has received a boost in quality pizza in the last 12 - 18 months buoyed by the opening and success of Sapore Di Napoli in Kingsgrove, Centro is another impressive offering in a shopfront which has failed to impress with string of businesses opening and folding in quick succession. Please sweet baby Cheeses, don't let this be the same. The pizza is outstanding, you can tickle your pizza pickle with traditional red base or if you're into living a little - try the Bianchi base, the prosciutto one is insane. If you're in the area and you're thinking about pizza, which should be a standard thought process - it won't disappoint.

I messaged some Italian relatives-in-laws and it was clear I had to check out Napoli Centro. Located close to Bardwell Park Train Station and short walk just past it you'll find a clean window view into a simple but classic Italian restaurant. Framed pictures on the wall and the smell from the wood fire oven leaves you salivating. We ordered quickly as we were luckily to get a table, surprisingly the place was packed when we got there. Arancini (Rice Balls), Buffalo Mozzarella Salad with a Fettuccine Biascola and Margarita pizza. The Pizza was the star, closely followed by the pasta both light and left you wanting more. Truly classic Napoletana style in delivery and taste. Unfortunately we were in a rush, so no desert but I'll be back because the gelato looked good as well.
