I've been taking remote lessons with Laura for 1 year and in that time I've been able to significantly advance Spanish language skills. I can now converse fluently in everyday scenarios, and I have an intermediate business vocabulary with an 80% comprehension of my Spanish-speaking professional colleagues (enough to ask the right questions!). I run an international tech start-up that requires frequent travel to Mexico City. I wanted to build on the four years of Spanish I took high school so that I could get around the city while traveling, as well as communicate more effectively with the staff and vendors that were not fluent in English. My work hours tended to be long and unpredictable, so the Skype sessions with Laura were actually a huge selling point for me - I don't think I could have improved my Spanish any other way as physical classroom lessons were out of the question for me. Later, the lessons became more conversational and we ran through some business related topics so I could learn vocabulary I was most likely to use. After 3 weeks, I stopped stumbling over my words; after 3 months, I was able to travel solo in Mexico without a lick of English; after 6 months, I was able to understand about 50% of professional Spanish speakers; and after 1 year, I read, write, and speak Spanish daily - informally and professionally. My Spanish is not always perfect, but it's very good and I feel confident speaking to others. I'm still taking lessons to keep improving. Wanting to learn different languages has always been a lifelong goal of mine. I travel quite often and love communicating with the locals in their own tongue. At the beginning of 2020, I decided to officially put another language under my belt. I have several I want to learn but due to the demand for my work and the fact that it's one of the most spoken languages in the world, I figured I should pick up Spanish. I was looking at different teachers, and none of them got my attention until I saw Laura. When I saw Laura's Skype sessions, I started to investigate more. When I realized that her sessions composed of only speaking in Spanish, she gained my curiosity. I immediately reached out to her to see how her curriculum works because I'm under the impression that she doesn't take on just any student. After consulting with her and reaching a financial agreement, she gave me a test to see what I already knew. This was an instant green flag. It's unfortunate for me to have to leave such a negative review on this company. I waited two months to take a Spanish class with this company. weeks later the owner says she actually feels more comfortable if we paid before class started. I told her I could pay 24 hours before. She did not respond. Next day I was told I lost my slot and everyone knows how popular that class gets. I didn't know how popular that class got but i still managed to have that slot for atleast a month and a half? Before you even decided to change the payment policy? But a week before class started I lost my spot when I told you when I could pay and that you trusted us. I've already started studying the material. Ive been looking forward to this and she pulled the rug underneath my feet. The owner of this company who is the set up person showed no sympathy. She was soooo rude. Customer service is not a priority here. They way she notified me was so blunt and lack of consideration that I've waited a long time and have began studying . Ive worked with customers plenty of times to know to not go about it the way she did. Since it's late fall, I'm hoping that there are other Spanish school companies can still take me and I'm not too late on enrollment. Some advice: this company should consider having some structure before telling clients that we are gonna get free pizza on our first day of class and everything is fine. Anywho, get some structure to let us know we secured our spot. Be clear in communication. I had no idea my spot was on the rocks! There wasn't even a deadline so I don't think it's fair that I lost my spot. I know this is a small company and having contracts isn't ideal but in the emails atleast say, "in order to secure your spot, pay $160 by this September 15" or something. Five stars is not enough for Laura!! She is incredible!! I work in construction where Spanish is usually the dominant language. I thought I could get by trying to remember my high school AP lessons, but it was a struggle. I tried language learning apps but felt that the material was either too easy or too advanced, I knew I needed someone to take a more customized approach with my level of understanding. I was really impressed with Laura's initial assessment. After filling out a few forms (or trying, anyway!) I just got back from a 2-week trip in Spain and definitely had a much better experience because of this class. Around 80% of my tour group didn't know Spanish, so my basic conversational skills came in handy, especially in cities where they ONLY spoke Spanish :O I've been taking classes for 8 months now, and my conjugation has really improved - I only knew words and some phrases before. I have been taking Spanish lessons with Laura over Skype since September, and I've already come a long way. For me, the set-up is ideal since I don't have a lot of tiempo libre, and I absolutely love the lessons. Granted, I'm super motivated because I've wanted to be conversational in Spanish for years. But I also think Laura's program makes it fun and keeps me engaged when I might have become frustrated or bored with something different. Laura sends the lesson electronically that I work on throughout the week. I find if I do a little every day, I retain more than if I try to cram it all in at the last minute. Go figure. : ) I send it back electronically a day or so ahead of time, then I meet with Laura over Skype for 30 minutes one day a week. I've only ever spoken with Laura in Spanish. At first this was intimidating, and I felt like a big idiot. She had to speak super slowly for me to understand. Actually, she probably still speaks more slowly to me than she would to someone who speaks Spanish fluently, but she definitely speaks faster than when I started, and I am able to understand most of what she says. The big difference for me has been building confidence in responding, and Laura has helped with that a lot. At first I would just say, "Si," and not much else, but now I'm brave enough to respond, and even to initiate conversation. I don't necessarily say what I want to say *correctly*, but I'm a lot more confident in just trying to get my point across. If I were able to speak in English at all during the lesson, I don't think I would have built the confidence, so I'm grateful for that. Finally, I love the lessons themselves. They are strategic, building on previous lessons while also coming back to concepts and skills touched on earlier. I used to worry at the end of a lesson that I didn't completely understand something we'd done, or I didn't have all the words down yet. Now I'm seeing that the concepts and the vocabulary come back in future lessons. Also, because of the way the lessons are organized, I know that when I have more time, it will be easy to find and review past concepts and vocabulary. Although I still have trouble understanding and speaking Spanish in real-world situations that involve any slang whatsoever, I definitely speak and understand it much better than I did four months ago. Basically, I can have a conversation with someone who speaks slowly and articulately and never deviates from Standard Spanish. That's three people more than I could talk to before! I began looking for a place to continue practicing and strengthening my Spanish skills last fall--I took Spanish in college but had fallen out of practice and wanted to return to being more comfortable with the language because I teach at a school where the majority of the students are heritage Spanish speakers. By the time I began looking, community college classes had already begun for the semester, so I turned my search elsewhere, and Spanish-4-You stood out from the private options. I took small group classes, which were friendly and companionable. I have worked with several tutors in the past, taken many Spanish classes, and Laura is definitely the best at what she does. She really gets to know you well, and has YOU talking 80% of the time, giving you plenty of practice. Assignments are minimal and easy (maybe 20 min/week of worksheets, plus however many hours you are willing to study on your own). The work is centered around you, your daily life, and goals so that you get the most out of each session. AND she does classes over the web. Tutoring can be offered at the office or in your own home, I chose at the office (it's the same building as Enterprise, in between Wells Fargo and Rock Bottom). There's an underground parking lot but the surrounding area has many 2 hour metered parking for $3 (or less if you put exact time you need). The office itself is comfortable and well-lit; you will need to check-in at the lobby to be able to go up to the 4th floor. My background -- I'd say I am intermediate conversation/comprehension but for everyday conversation. My goal is to improve my Spanish in relation to my professional work. Eventually, I want to be fluent. I let Laura know what was I looking for -- goals, budget, time. I was a little worried about having pre-set lesson plans because I was concerned I wouldn't have the content covered I was looking to work on. Laura quickly tailored a lesson plan related to what I was looking for and my tutor, Rocio, made sure to personalize our sessions each time. I am so happy I came across Spanish-4-You. We needed help for my two children ages 9 and 12. My husband and I really wanted our kids to be bilingual and as they were babies and toddlers we only spoke to them in Spanish. I also travel a lot and find that a conversation class was a great option for me. They also offer personalized classes and Skype classes. I am taking a small group class and Rocio is such a dedicated, knowledgeable and kind teacher. She is always happy to answer questions a bit outside the scope of the weekly lesson. I like the written homework (you have to do it to succeed and be fair to classmates and give yourself a chance!) and the focus conversation during class. I am so glad that I found this school and have no complain about all the process and lessons that I have been taking for almost 3 months now. I hope to continue into 2020. read more

I have always wanted to become fluent in Spanish but it was either never the right time in my life to dedicate myself, or (more often) the programs I participated in just never went far enough to get me to my goal. I have taken three years of Spanish in high school, a year in college, those language CDs you see advertised on T.V., podcasts, youtube videos, independent study text books, community classes, and other private tutoring courses. No program could get me past the lower intermediate level/high beginner level except Spanish-4-You. The Program: The organization of the program is really great. It's full immersion, but don't let that scare you. Your instructor will start at your level and use visual aids to assist in the lessons so you will never feel like you can't adequately communicate. You're instructor will follow the lesson plan set out in a book unique to the program, you will practice (again, fully in Spanish) certain concepts in that day's lesson plan and then you will be given the rest of the lesson for homework that week as well as suggestions on how to get in more practice. It's not just a boring classroom type textbook learning though, you are encouraged to go on tangents so that you can practice your speaking skills! Also, throughout the week if you have any questions you can email your instructor. The Instructors: As for the instructors, I have had the pleasure and privilege of working with both Laura and Susan (Susana!). Laura is energetic and spunky, Susana is easy going and gentle, but they are both sweet, kind, and generous with their time. I ended up working primarily with Susan and it was great. She's so easy to talk to and I never felt uncomfortable or embarrassed with her no matter how bad I goofed. Most importantly though both Laura and Susan have incredible knowledge and, as much as you want to know, they are willing to share. I have often attended other courses where if I press the instructor for the difference between two Spanish words, many times an instructor will not even know! Laura and Susan though thoroughly know the nuances of the Spanish language. There were days when I thought becoming fluent in Spanish was a lofty goal and that I should just give up, but through Spanish-4-You I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Spanish-4-You has brought me closer than ever to obtaining my goal of fluency. Unfortunately I had to discontinue classes because of some unrelated life circumstances, but I am counting the days until I can return and finish what I started. If you are looking to learn Spanish ASAP then this is the place you want to be. Just some background on myself. I am a Police Officer with a local agency and work in a city that predominantly speaks Spanish. Both of my parents speak Spanish fluently but unfortunately did not teach myself nor my siblings. I reached out to Laura from Spanish-4-You and she responded immediately. She was more than accommodating with my needs and goals. When you first arrive at Spanish-4-You, you will take a placement test to see where they can start you off. After that, you explain to Laura what exactly your goals and reasons for learning Spanish. In my case, I need it to work and comprehend with the people I encounter. I was assigned Rocio as my tutor. Rocio and Laura came up with a lesson plan that was tailored for my work. Within a short amount of time I am able to converse with the people I encounter, take full on crime reports, put out descriptions of suspects, and help those who cannot help themselves. There have even been times where I had to text my tutor Rocio how to translate certain commands. And because Rocio is so caring and helpful she responded immediately and helped me out during a time in need. I currently attend Spanish class twice and week for 90 minutes. If you are looking to learn Spanish quickly I recommend you also put in your time to study according to my tutor. You will be assigned fun and helpful homework to assist with learning. I enjoy attending class weekly and enjoy telling my tutor Rocio about exciting calls I go in Spanish. Of course I can never translate the stories correctly but that is how I learn. She knows what I am trying to stay and corrects me politely and has me continue the story. There is no doubt in my mind that I will soon be fluent in Spanish. If you are a first responder i.e. (Fireman, Police, Military) or even just an average person who wants to learn Spanish I highly recommend Spanish-4-You. read more

Our program is now in it's third year and continues to expand and evolve. The high quality teaching materials focus on games, coloring and fun activities for children. The Spanish class was fun and extremely valuable since there aren't too many language classes available outside the university setting. My class consisted of eight adults and we met in the home of one of students. The time always went fast because we were learning so much. Spanish-4-You's program is great for adults who are not in school and who want to learn a second language on their own time, at their own pace, and with highly customized instruction. After graduating from college, I decided I wanted to learn Spanish. As someone entering the healthcare field, I knew a working knowledge of Spanish would be extremely useful. First, the quality of the materials is great. The program has created sets of lessons with vocabulary and grammar, similar to a textbook. Each lesson also has its own assignments and exercises. The grammar instruction is detailed and easy to understand and there are lots of oral exercises that can be practiced with your private instructor. My instructor was Veronica. She was great--very patient, detailed when going through lessons, and always asking me if I had questions for her. She was also very responsive and available through phone and email. As a native Spanish speaker, she could give me lots of insights on the nuances of the language and also helped with my pronunciation. Also, she was just really funny and nice--made me feel at ease and comfortable when trying out my nascent language skills in conversational situations. I also loved the flexibility of Spanish-4-You. I don't have a regular work schedule and I don't have time to take a class at a local comm college or something like that. I needed lessons that worked on my time and at my own pace. With this program, I was able to schedule lessons at different times/days on different weeks. I was also easily able to change things with just a few hours' notice. Plus, if I needed more time on a certain lesson's material, I could take a few extra days, and conversely I could schedule lessons closer together if I felt like I wanted to pick up the pace. Really, it's whatever works for you. The whole thing is super tailored to the individual and that is what makes it awesome for working adults who want to learn a 2nd language, but not at the expense of their work/daily obligations. Overall, I really loved Spanish-4-You. The director, Laura, helped me set up everything at the beginning and would occasionally pop in on lessons to make sure everything was going correctly. She is also very fast about returning phone calls--always calls back on the same biz day, usually within a few hours. I was tutored for 6 classes by Susan and I am very confident with my speaking ability. Susan was also very friendly and made me feel comfortable to speak Spanish with her. Also, she was extremely helpful and passionate about me learning Spanish. I enjoyed how for each activity she turned it into a discussion, so I could practice speaking Spanish. She also always tied in my work and what I would need to say in the field, so it was helpful to practice the words/phrases with her before I spoke them on my own with native Spanish speakers. I took a Spanish immersion course in Costa Rica during the summer and wanted to continue learning Spanish in a classroom environment. Spanish-4-You is exactly what I needed. I'm so happy with Laura (the director) and my teacher Rocio! I was able to get a small group started & have the class held at my house. Trying to get everyone in my group on the same schedule was hard but Laura was so understanding & flexible. It was very convenient!
