A 3 & 1/2 only because of the OVERT RACISM OF A STAFF MEMBER! First the bad: We know this is an election year, however whatever your political affiliation, upbringing, etc., your place of employment is NOT the place for you to show your disdain for people of color. At the time of our arrival the restaurant received what appeared to be an overwhelming amount of customers waiting to be seated. You would think this was a good thing right? The wait for a table was not long though. As parties were seated, others advanced in line. In front of us was a party of 6, then 3-4, next us. BEHIND us was a party of 1 then 5-6. One particular blonde hair older woman proceeded to tell the parties in front of us she would seat them next then she told the party of 5-6 BEHIND us she would seat them next. Before my husband and son could voice an (angry) objection a woman from the party behind us said "they were here first". OMG! We were the only people of color in the place so how could she "overlook" us? The front waiting area was extremely small as well. Racism at its finest!!! Not appropriate at all. The good: After we were seated our server was amazing! She was very attentive and made sure our orders were made right. I'm grateful for the younger generation because they don't have a stick shoved up their backsides and are simply doing their jobs. I wish I had her name because I think she was genuine in her work ethics. The food was delicious and we left satisfied with our meals. To People of color don't accept the rudeness of one staff and the unmerited stares of others deter you from this place. I'd eat here again. PS: OHIO STATE BEAT THE NITTANY LIONS! Go Bucks! read more

We went there because of the reviews. I got the hot roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes and gravy and my wife got the hot turkey sandwich with mash potatoes. Both the beef and turkey were sandwich meat terrible tasting. The mash potatoes were lumpy and almost cold. The Texas toast bread was good as was the gravy. For $15 you would expect real meat, hot and creamy mash potatoes. My wife thought the turkey gravy was gross. Our waitress did a good job. The food was to DIE FOR. It was so good because it was all homemade. The service was fast and nice and they weren't rude and made you feel like your dining experience isn't being rushed. Five star food combined with five star service topping it off with five star ambience earns 5 stars. It's just that simple. This place "gets it". Frequent readers of my posts have picked up on my ANTI PRETENTIOUS themed establishments. This place is as close to perfect as you are going to get. My advice: leave your ego and attitude at the door before walking in and you will find yourself in heaven. The menu is easy to read and they offer you great food at an unfair price. I say unfair because the portions are ridiculous. I ordered a sandwich with homemade bread....I laughed when it came out because I got the impression they thought I was Fred Flintstone (huge portions...get it?). You can get anything you want, adjust/tweak your order and they can accommodate you. They do the basics so well that they become exceptional. Sit down and look at the walls....they are decorated with local heros and that will give you a sense of the community - good old small town Pennsylvania!!! What made me smile was the fact that our waitress was the daughter of the owner...she was young so I have confidence that I'll be able to visit this establishment for a long time. I sat under a picture of a young man....6'5" offensive tackle young man. I could tell everyone was proud of him (as well they should be) as he represented the town/community and it's culture. You big city morons have fun in your ridiculously priced Philly restaurants with your avocado vinegar cucumber hors d'oeuvres that come with a hefty price tag, rude wait staff and corrupt government officials. A fun cafe located in downtown Clearfield that provides typical small town cafe foods. They have an ample selection of staple sandwich, salad, and burger, and breakfast choices along with other enticing appetizers. The dining area is small, and seating can be limited at times. I do enjoy sitting at the cafe bar. They use fresh sourdough bread in several of their dishes which really separates them from others! I decided to stop in here recently when I was in the area for work. Really happy that I did. The inside has a very old school, small town diner feel to it. I was just looking for a quick breakfast and this place was perfect. Before talking about the actual food, the prices are unbeatable. You can get almost every type of breakfast for under $5. My pancakes were massive and cost $3.50. Even with the great prices, they definitely do not sacrifice quality. The pancakes I got were fluffy, flavorful, and some of the best I have ever had. We had spend the morning nearby to celebrate Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney. Chose Spankys as it was out of the congestion of Punxsy, but not a McDonald's. There was breakfast seating available upon arrival for our party of five and we were given menus and had our drinks orders taken soon after arriving. Then, we waited... Our waitress brought out half of the drinks over five minutes after ordering and then the other half five minutes later. And off she went. We are waited ten minutes patiently for her to come to take our orders before flagging her down to actually do so. Food took awhile to get to the table and was just okay. Forget about refills and the bills because everything took so unbelievably long. My patience was surely tested. Not sure if this was normal for this place or not, but be prepared to have your breakfast take over an hour if you go here. read more
