Very solid pub in Clearfield with a wide menu and plenty of different options although the claim to fame are their burgers. We came to try the 2 pounder challenge (2 lbs AFTER cooking plus the toppings and bun), which I demolished in 30 min or so (you get an hour and if you finish you get a shirt, your name and finish time on a plaque in their Hall of Fame, and 50% off the burger itself). The burger itself was quite solid - juicy and tender without any seasoning so you can add your toppings. Be sure to grab a side of the fries (I prefer the crinkle-cut sweet potato), a milkshake or beer, and maybe a taco. It's no frills but a nice lowkey option that has a blend of visitors and locals. read more

This place has been a regional destination for years, so being in the Clearfield area today made me excited to visit again. However, this may have been my last time patronizing. Denny's is known far and wide for their burgers. Any burger lover looks forward to biting into a big, juicy burger. Preferably one that was hand-shaped in the kitchen with house spices and not a mass produced burger that was trucked in. Couldn't finish it. My travel partner also ordered a burger to be prepared medium but it was absolutely raw in the middle. Yes, he could have sent it back but the server didn't come back for at least 20 minutes so it was a bust. The menu is huge, so hopefully others can find better prepared meals. Speaking of the server, let me just say that she must hate her job. Miserable, grumpy, not at all friendly. Who doesn't want a friendly bartender?! The ambiance was cool, though. The beer selection was decent (40 beers on tap, plus bottles and cans) as well as some wines and cocktails. Lots of TVs to watch whatever sport you want to watch. Next time traveling in the Clearfield area I will skip Denny's BBP. It really took the wind outta my sail. read more

We stopped at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub on our way home last night and they did not disappoint! They're known for their world record burgers and many of them sounded really good. But I was intrigued by the burnt turkey ends with maple waffle fries and maple turkey gravy and cheese curds I also ordered a bowl of chili and lemme tell ya - it was some of the best chili I've ever had! Now, the turkey ends... Wow, that plate was DELICIOUS I don't know how they make maple waffle fries, but they need to become a thing. The maple turkey gravy was rich and salty and sweet. The cheese curds were creamy and melty and added texture and flavor. I'm blaming it on the 16oz of beer and the bowl of amazing chili... But I tapped out halfway through haha! One of the most interesting and tasty meals I've had in a long time. I'm going to see how they heat up in the air fryer, for breakfast. Should you find yourself on I-80 in western PA, definitely plan to stop at Denny's Beer Barrel... But you better be ready to eat! read more

I had to come back and give this place another go. I enjoyed myself so much the last time and that burger has been on mind heavy lately. I'm honestly going to focus on the burger this time around. The atmosphere, service, and overall experience were basically the same. But that burger I had this time, still plays in my mind. I was in such sweet euphoria by having this burger. If you are a pickle lover, or have a hankering for some at any given moment in your life, the Dillaree Burger is for you. It is dill-icous. Pun intended. The burger, which is amazing on its own, is enhanced by all the dill that is surrounding the patty. It's not enough to just put pickles on a burger with this particular one, you have to really surround and almost encase this burger in pickles. The pickles start as the base. Plain old dill pickle chips, the good kind. Then they place the burger patty on top. Towards the top you have fried pickle chips, just in case you haven't had your fill of dill just yet, they add more. With the addition of a havarti dill cheese it enhances the dill flavor. So much so that you don't even notice the blackened ranch they put on this. Just in case you haven't had enough dill, there is a pickle spear served on the side. To, you know, kind of wash it down. As always, make sure to get the fries with this or any other burger. It is a nice compliment. I wish I lived closer, but at the same time, I am happy that I don't. If I did indeed live closer I would lose the appreciation I have of this place. read more

It's a Clearfield classic...plenty of beer and burger options. I tried the spicy bourbon; it came with plenty of jalapeños. The hangover burger was large and in charge -- it was well balanced with the toppings. The Paterno burger was loaded with toppings as well. The Dillaree is the perfect burger for a pickle lover. The burgers were all cooked medium well/well even though we ordered medium. The service was great for a Thursday night. read more

Update: I may have just eaten the best burger I have ever had. I visited Dennys Beer Barrel Pub on the way to Clearfield this week, with a friend. I've been there before and told him that Dennys is a fun place who makes burgers in all sizes, and the food has always been good. Today, for some reason, the burger was exceptional. It's hard to believe that I would ever say this, but the burger was as close to perfect as I can ever recall. I found myself relishing every bite and telling my friend how good it was. Great beer selection. VERY long wait for the food. My venison-wild boar burger was ordered medium rate and came well done. the chips were way over done. My wife ordered burnt tip turkey tacos. Pretty unimpressed. Burnt tips are too dry for tacos and these did not disappoint. Way too dry. Waffle fry sweet potatoes were burnt and like chips rather than fries. Really disappointed. Looked like the wait time for a table can get to be a pain but we hit it just right & were seated at a high top as soon as we walked in. Large menu with many a vast array of delicious sounding pub grub options. I got my burger medium well (as recommended) with the BBQ on the side & upgraded to beer battered fries. Everything was great. I enjoyed the wings as well, they were cooked good, & the bacon flavor was unique. I didn't experience anything "hot" about them at all. Not sure if something was missed or that's how they are. I also thought the draft list was cool too, having 3 or 4 different house drafts on that were made specifically for Denny's. Great place to sit for a while and watch sports. Make sure you come hungry because the portions are HUGE. Order a meal here and have enough for the next day. Great selection too of draft beer. Lots of choices. The server was helpful. The only reason for not giving five stars is that the meat was a tad dry. However, it had a great taste. Very flavorful! My wife and I drove 2 hours for lunch today, got there about 1:30 . Sat at the bar, our bar tender was not friendly but everyone has those days. We ordered a 1/2 burger to split, burger and fries were both barely warm. Maybe the kitchen was having an off day! But our bar tender ( who I over heard saying she has worked there 19 years) never bothered to ask us if our food was ok, and never ask if we would like another drink. I decided when we got home I would politely call back and tell a manager our experience, when I called the girl that answered the phone told me the manager was to busy to talk and I should call back another time, so my 3 star rating is generous, food , service and employees are very subpar! read more

We stopped here for a drink and ended up eating...we were so tempted! I had the stuffed pepper soup...good...and ate some fries with seasoning with my husband. My husband said his burger was one of the best he has ever had. My dad had an elk burger and loved it! The negatives were that each addition on the burger was an up charge, so the $12 burger ended up being almost $18. Been wanting to come here for awhile n finally had a reason to be in Clearfield n try it. I had the wise guy n my husband had the peach bbq bourbon burgers. And we split the poutine. That was our favorite. I wasn't crazy about my meat patty bc they said it was sausage n ground beef mixed n I couldn't really bite through it easily. I would try a different burger next time. Good service but the food was horrible. Hands down the worst burger I've ever had. So dry I couldn't bite into parts of it.

My son order the broiled haddock (he loves fish). Dont ever buy it. My son took one bite and made an awful face and said it tastes really weird. So I tried it and instantly spit it out. Worst thing I ever had in my mouth. Not sure if the fish was bad or if it was what as on it. It tasted like straight acid. It gave a chemical burn to the corner of my mouth and tongue. It wasmy from it being hot bc it wasn't that warm. My husband got wings and said the we're ok but nothing great. Mine and my daughters burger was really good but I don't recommend the chips. You could tell that the oil the chips where cooked in needed changed...gave the chips an old oil taste to them. Service was lacking some as well. Our food took a really long time to come out....around 45 minutes. It sat on the window ledge for 8 Minutes getting cold before our server brought it to us. The server was nice but I couldn't stand the strong cigarette smell like she just chain smoked 3 cigarettes before serving our food to us. Not happy at all. I asked my son if he wanted me to order him something else but he didn't want to eat anything after that. This was our first time here and we definitely won't be back. After being told that there was a 2 hour wait.. a family of 7, who, clearly knew the hostess, walked in and asks how long for seating and the hostess says, "We have the same seats you had last time" WTF?? IF, in fact, this was the owner... what kind of service is this?!? We had just left the BEE KIND wine store and the owner there told us what a GREAT place this was and what a GREAT guy owner was!! On a recent Summer trip, my wife and I stopped here for a meal before continuing East. The place was packed and after a table-pager snafu we were finally seated with access to several of their many TVs. We decided to share a salad, wings and a burger. The house salad was pretty standard issue but tasted fine. The extra-crispy wings with Coach's sauce and bleu cheese were plump, sweet, tangy and spicy all at once. The beer barrel cheddar burger was stuffed with grilled onions and topped with shredded cheddar. It was moist and delicious and had a relatively loose grind. Fries were however were average, and their chips tasted stale. Overall a reasonably good meal and this was a decent place to detour off the turnpike for a meal. I would return. read more

We discovered this place about 15 years ago and have since planned our trips home to Ohio from NYC to include lunch here. Absolutely never disappoints!! Haven't been since before Covid and love the additional seating...beautiful job! Deciding which burger to have is always a challenge. This time we ordered the Asiago burger and the Jameson burger. We stopped in Clearfield as a half way rest for our drive to NYC. I read reviews about this place so we decided to check it out. My teenage son got the elk burger. It was tiny, dry and flavorless. He is a big eater and only managed to get half of it down. The side of mac and cheese was decent that came with it. My mother and I shared the chicken bacon ranch avocado flatbread. It was pretty good. Nothing that wow'd us. Probably wouldn't go back if we were in town again. read more
