I can't tell you how excellent this shop is. The optometrist is one of the most accurate I've ever met with an excellent patient ability and clear communication. The counter staff are all super helpful and will make sure you make the proper choice. The selection of frames is second to none. I got 2 pair of really stylish glasses thanks to the great staff and their patients working withe the guy who can never make a quick decision. With a recent issue on some new frames the the manager agreed to allow me a complete swap since I wasn't convinced the repair would be satisfactory. This was above and beyond. I've been loyal to this shop for years and will now continue based on how the manager stepped up. One of the secret weapons is Diana. Super cool and a great eye for what style fits. After Dr Lynn left I continued with a new woman Dr. My eyesight has gotten very bad in a matter of months. even with glasses/contacts I felt something was wrong. she told me it was in my head and acuse me of exaggerating symptoms. she even refused to sign papers for my job so I wouldn't have to work with fine print. The girls at the desk are rude and nasty to boot. I went to see a real eye dr a Opthemologist, I had grade 4 cataracts! No wonder I couldn't see and why the fast progression in my eyesight. It wasn't in my head! I got surgery and now I can see without glasses or contacts. They are awful at Spare pair and so are Drs! My Opthemologist said she was a horrible Dr and I needed surgery. If you have insurance please note that when you call to make an appointment for an eye exam the person answering the phone actually has been trained to know what insurance this place takes. I asked 3x before making my appointment are you sure? The response was always yes. So today at noon I show up and wouldn't you know it I get the snarky " we don't take that kind" and Mr Charming sticks his nose back into the computer after calling someone to confirm. We started going to The Spare Pair 3 years ago when my daughter had to start wearing glasses right before her 1st bday. I was scared and devastated but the staff at TSP made us feel so comfortable especially my daughter. Michelle is amazing!! Holmdel Spare Pair is THE BEST!!! I wish I could give them 10+ stars because they deserve it! I have been a patient of Spare Pair for the past 15-20 years. However, this was my first time visiting the Holmdel office. I was seeing floaters for a couple of weeks, so I called up Spare Pair to get it checked out. The only available appointment was at the Holmdel office, so I took the appointment. I walked into the office and I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff (Michelle, Jordan, Dylan & Erin) who went above and beyond to ensure all COVID safe precautions were taken. This is so important during these scary unprecedented times. Shortly, after checking in I was seen by Dr. Lin. Dr. Lin took a look at my eyes and talked me through the how and why of why I was seeing floaters. He spent a good amount of time talking to me and answering all of my questions. After speaking with Dr. Lin I felt educated and aware. Dr. Lin assured me that the floaters were nothing to worry about which gave me peace of mind. After finishing up with Dr. Lin, I worked with Jordan and Dylan to pick out a new pair of glasses. Jordan ran my insurance and advised me of exactly what I was covered for. Then, I told Jordan what my price range of frame looked like and what type of frame I was interested in and she did an excellent job at helping me find the perfect frame. Dylan also helped me in making the final decision of which frame to choose. I appreciated both of their honesty and kindness during this process so much! Also, I must add Spare Pair in Holmdel has THE MOST BEUTIFUL frames. I could not believe the huge selection they had! Not only was their selection huge, but affordable too! Michelle does an awesome job at choosing the frames for the store. Michelle also helped to measure my face for my frames. She made me feel confident in the frame I chose too! I have been buying eye glasses from here for 10 years and when I decided to try another route (online) they refused to give me the pupillary distance in my prescription. First let me start off by saying Dr. Lin is absolutely the best. I used to go there and see him and then buy my glasses there. The selection is great, however after my last purchase I realized that I greatly overpaid and will not go there anymore other then to see the Dr. As for the front desk, true they aren't the best, but all they really are doing is checking me in. So.. I highly recommend Dr.Lin and know your pricing, because a pair of glasses that was supposedly a fancy European brand and priced as such, really wasn't that fancy. read more

The eye Dr here is super but the staff behind the desk is horrible to say the least. My granddaughter needed glasses so we took her for an eye exam and glasses. She got a pair that she liked and were satisfied until they broke within 2 weeks. When we went back to see if they could reattach the arm or replace them they said there was no insurance on them. I didn't quite understand this since she is only 6 so I don't get why children's glasses are not insured. Needless to say she needed to see so we bought a similar frame so they could use the same lenses. These broke a month later! Took them back and AGAIN would not replace or repair them. So I asked for a copy of her prescription. They hesitantly gave me a copy but REFUSED to give the pdi measurements so we could order a pair online. They said the measurements were for their records only and we would have to figure it out ourselves. Really? We paid for an exam and 2 PAIRS of glasses within a 2 month period and they refused to repair or replace them. Should we have paid for a 3rd pair? Although I have been going to Dr Lin for a few years myself I cannot continue to patronize this establishment anymore nor will I recommend them to anyone else. read more

Worst customer service ever. The vile "manager" is an abusive lying...well I can't say what. Refused to give me part of my prescription because "it's the intellectual property of the eye dr" um excuse me. It's my eyeglass prescription that I paid for but I'm not allowed to have my prescription. She then tries to tell me it is illegal to give me the information. (I looked it up can't find this "law" anywhere. When I informed her it had been given to me before in the past (for years) she then told me I was a liar. When I told her who had given me the information she then called me some choice names and said that I was going to get this person fired. I said that's not my goal, I'm just asking for my personal medical info. I have video of her altering my medical records. It's a shame cause the eye dr and the rest of the staff is great. I used to go here religiously for eye exams, glasses and contacts. The doctor is great but the staff is extremely rude and standoffish, which makes going in there more of a chore than anything. They really make you feel like you're an inconvenience to their day. The exam prices aren't bad, but they really get you on the glasses and contacts. I would never recommend anyone to use Spare Pair. I spent $644 for a pair of glasses and when the frame cracked ONE WEEK after the warranty was up I was told there was nothing they could do. Amazing!! I called on Wednesday to set up a first time appointment. I was able to make an appointment for that same day at 12. I had my exam and ordered my glasses in less than 45 minutes. I tried on a lot of different pairs because I was indecisive of what I liked and the woman helping me was so helpful and patient. The very next day I received a phone call that my glasses were ready and I could come pick them up. I couldn't believe how quickly they had them ready for me! This location is definitely in Holmdel, not Keyport. I've been going here for years and am a fan of all of the staff. They are always super helpful and friendly, and have helped me pick out some great glasses and sunglasses. Dr. Ron is my favorite! I've worn glasses since the 2nd grade. I had been to a handful of eye doctors while in middle school and attempted to try contact lenses many times. It was not until coming to Spare Pair that I finally was able to transition from glasses to contacts, and it has been that way for 14 years! I have been going to spare pair for over 4 years now for frames and I wanted to let everyone know that this is the GREATEST vision center in Monmouth county!!! Besides that during COVID the shop is spotless, the staff wears masks and wipes things down, takes your temperature, besides that Michelle and Dylan are the friendliest women in the place and helpful, and courteous, and professional, they took great care of my eye glass order. Now Eric adjusted my glasses a few times to make sure they fit me perfectly and he is the magician who cut the lenses to fit my 2 new frames and the old frame that I bought there and still love!! They never give me any attitude for adjustments or for anything. There is no underlying negativity, and whatever I ask they answer me in a professional and friendly way!!! Went to this eyeglass store in search of a new pair of glasses. With the help of Julie I was able to find a pair just right for me. She narrowed it down to 4 pair very quickly. After trying each a few times the perfect pair was chosen. The service felt like I was the only one in the store. The rest of the staff was very pleasant too. Less than 2 weeks my glasses were ready to be picked up. Went in and they sat me right down fine tuned the fitting and off I went with a great pair of glasses. I am complimented on them all the time. I not the kind of person who writes reviews but I needed to write one about this place. I really had no clue on where to go here in Holmdel and I am glad I found this store. Large, clean, bright. Loads of available parking. There so much room to move around in this store. All types of frames to choose from. This place is huge. My eye exam was the most though I ever had my entire life. Very precise and the use of all sorts of high tech equipment. I could see inside my own eyes! What is great is that this equipment did not need my eyes dilated so it was no problem to drive home. I would never, ever go to any place that did not have this equipment once I understood how it is used to diagnose. Dr. Alcala was amazing. She keeps going until she is sure she had it the best it can be and was sure she did everything possible with confidence. When I got my glasses the improvement was amazing. Michelle, knows the in and outs of insurance and can easily lead you the best frames to choose from and explains the lenses and options so all is clear and you know what you are getting (or can get) and why. Plus, from what I see, the prices are great and she knows the insurance so well that there are no surprises and you can use it to the best advantage to you. I felt great the entire process and am so happy with my new glasses. I have been to other places in my life and I never felt this confident in the entire process. I've been going here for over 15 years! I always see Dr. Lin, I like him a lot because he understands my needs and quirks and accommodates me. He has a very calm, soothing demeanor. The girls up at the front are, in my opinion, far too extroverted and loud, but Dr. Lin makes up for that. They have a great selection of reasonably priced glasses as well.
