We had a multi-generational family birthday party here with 25 people coming from all over the state. Tyler and Mike in Event Planning were incredibly accommodating and made our event go very smoothly. We all had a great time! We ordered 5 pizzas, which were delicious, and various pop and beer to drink. I would highly recommend Spare Time and we will be returning in the future. read more

We met up with friends at Spare Time a few weekends ago for my significant other's birthday around 7pm and had a good time. I tried to make a reservation for lanes earlier in the week and learned that you can only make a reservation if you purchase a package, otherwise it is first come first serve. We had 10 in our party and they said they would email me their package deals to review, but I never got them. We ended up taking our chances and showed up a few minutes before 7pm. We we're lucky to get two lanes next to one another for our group. I wanted to purchase 2 hours on each lane, but they told me they would start me with one hour and could add more time when we got close to running out. As we got close to the end of our first hour, I was able to add a second hour in a separate transaction. I also ordered a couple of pizzas and fries for the group and it was about what you'd expect for a bowling alley and a bit pricey for what you got. The crowd started to get a little rowdy leading up to the 9pm hour with a couple customers shouting loudly at one another and not listening to the Manager who was trying to get them to take their argument outside. The employees did the best they could to handle the situation, but it made for an uncomfortable experience. I also think they could probably do a better job with parties/package sales, especially when the group is just planning to bowl, and they could possibly streamline payment processing by starting a tab as I had to make three separate transactions (one for each hour of bowling and one for the food) to pay for the gathering. read more

Bowling, Laser Tag and Arcade games all in one - what a nice combo! Came here to bowl around 3pm for the $29 per hour for each lane... 3 people got 3 games in, which was good. Only drawback, almost all of their games are ticket based... so if you are looking for old school games, this place will not have it and the games are expensive. You'll need to have a game card to reload, any tickets won will be deposited into your card. read more

I was trying to book a get together and the event planner was not helpful. He asked me to call back and when I did he did not return my message. I called again and he answered and asked why was I calling him at 10pm, I stated you close at 11 and he replied angrily this is my personal phone. How was I supposed to know he gave me his personal number. He should not have answered or he should have stated when we spoke it was his personal phone and what hours he is available. This "fun" entertainment center is an absolute joke. I took my kids there this weekend and our experience was extremely dissatisfying and uncomfortable. Our overpriced pizza and burgers looked like dog water. Not only that, it took longer than our last visit there. Apparently they are short staffed and had one cook working all weekend straight. Our "server" said someone who doesn't even live in Lansing makes the schedule for the whole Entertainment Center and all of the employees who work hard and do a good job are punished by being overworked. Just like every other place right now, we experienced crappy service due to overworked employees and we will NOT BE COMING HERE AGAIN! Our family and friends' families used to love doing birthday parties here, but we will go somewhere else from now on due to extremely long wait times for lanes, overpriced bowling and food, clueless service, poor ownership, and horrible looking food. What a fun night! We booked a reservation in Escapology tonight and had a blast! The rooms were nicely decorated and the puzzles were challenging enough to be fun. A big "thank you" to our host and gamemaster, Sabrina, for making our experience a good one. Covid note.. masks and gloves required. Thoroughly sanitized rooms. Staggered game times to keep the wait room numbers down. All in all made us feel Very safe for family fun during these unique Covid times. read more

This is a great place to socialize in Lansing. I visited this location with associates. They have bowling, later tag, games and virtual reality shooting game. They do serve beer and food. Nice place to visit will retuen if I'm ever in the city again. read more

I'd been to Spare Time on two separate occasions, once to meet up with friends who were already bowling and another time for axe throwing. Lets start with the bowling adventure: Now I didn't personally bowl, I met up with my friends later, they already had a lane rented out for an hour or two (details are foggy, forgive me), I was just spectating. They tried to cut their time short, but after some discussion with the staff the problem was resolved. I had a vodka cran & some wings. Wings were decent, vodka cran was STRONG (bartenders, yall do a great job). Then I got my bill and oh.my.God. I would have rather eaten the gum off the underside of the table had I known how expensive it would be. Everyone I was with raved about the drinks. The server was super on top of it, too. We then ventured to the arcade to find that over half of the games were out of order. Fine, just was kind of like a junkyard at that point. Overall, was it a HORRIBLE experience? no. but it left much to be desired. second time: axe throwing. Have a seat and grab a drink, because this is the reason I will never give this place my business. My husband set up a surprise party for me, 8 people total throwing axes. Rented out for 2 hours, $48/person. It was supposed to be 10 people, two of them cancelled a week before the event. When my husbands called to change the number from 10 to 8 he was told he would be refunded for the two people at the event. We get to the event and they tell him he has to call when a manager is available, they wont refund him at the event. round and round and round we go. My friends had party blowers for me when I arrived, the 'axe master' told them they couldn't vape inside..... just amazes me that this was even a real conversation. ANYWAYS, we all have to do an individual tutorial, not once but twice. once with a big axe, once with the smaller axe. Fine. Some of us have thrown before. Others haven't. This tutorial, for 8 people, took 40 minutes of our rented time. I understand safety standards but that was a bit extensive. One member was told by an elderly lady who we assumed had some sort of connection to the facility but was not actively involved in our event, that he was throwing the axe wrong (on his second throw mind you) and that he can't throw it like that or he's going to break the axe. For someone who had never thrown before, what a welcoming lesson. It's one thing to want everyone to be safe and to have respect of the equipment, but she was rude and truthfully an unwanted and unneeded presence. That member did not throw the remainder of the time because of her comments and attitude. We were only allowed to use two lanes, one person per lane at a time. When asked if we could use other lanes since we had all gone through the tutorial we were told no as one axe master could only monitor two lanes. Then the 'axe master' brought out a double edged axe. For what reason? More or less to show off as it didn't benefit anybody. Anyways, he threw it and it HIT A LIGHT IN THE CEILING. Now, you want to criticize someone's throwing technique for their second axe throw EVER, and scold them, meanwhile the person running the place is taking out ceiling lights? THEN for our 'game' we were forced into a round robin tournament. No options for games, just 'this is what we are doing now'. Some people got to throw twice at minimum, while others threw 4-5 times. During the round robin tournament the axe master continued to try to coach us through each throw. In the beginning that's fine, but this is supposed to a fun event and it felt like I was training to be a professional. Just let the people have fun in a safe way. In addition to that the boards were ATE UP. Never were they changed. They were in such poor shape. Now I don't like to compare places but the other axe throwing facilities I've been in would have had that lane shut down for 5 minutes and had all the boards replaced. Or had started us out with fresh boards, which was not the case for Spartan Axe. At the end of the 2 hours when we were done there was no "did everyone have fun?" or "thanks for coming out" or anything. just silence. and then another group walked in and the axe master just moved on. So all in all: it sucked. It was a bad time. Everyone agreed. My mother-in-law felt so bad that it went bad she said "let me handle this" and called the owner about how crappy of a time it was. The owner is a disgusting human. He kept asking 'where are you from' as if that matters? does it matter if I'm from East Lansing, India, or Florida? He tried to bully my mother-in-law based on her area code. Like excuse me??? He was argumentative, made no effort to reconcile anything, never apologized, and still made a stink about refunding the two people who didn't show up that were supposed to be refunded at the event. I just can not fathom someone running a business with this attitude. Do not support business like this. Find someone who appreciates customers. read more

It was my first time coming here and LAST... DON'T COME HERE! THEY DON'T APPRECIATE/RESPECT CUSTOMERS. We went to have a good night and get some drinks! We were having great night then our waitress came over to our table to tell us the place closed at 11:00 p.m. *Which online and their website it says they close at midnight* Anyways, when she came over to our table and said this we asked to get another tower of beer. She said, "Sure. But you have to drink it by 11:00." (Giving 5 people 30 minutes to do this) We said no worries, we will have it all drank. This is where it all turned! SHE BROUGHT IT OVER HALF FULL! I'M NOT KIDDING WHEN I SAY HALF FULL. SHE DIDN'T BRING IT OVER FULL, LIKE THE OTHER TIMES. I went and asked her, Why it wasn't full because I was not paying for something if it was half. She then talked to the bald head manager, who was too scared to come talk to me, to offer to fill the beer or get a "discount" that she didn't know yet. So I said, we would really just appreciate the beer cause that is what we were paying for. She poured less than half a glass of beer in and said it was enough because THE FOAM. That is right. THE FOAM was past the marker on the tower. $18 for half the beer you are charging me for. The point is that it was a really really really bad experience for my first time at the place. I will be going to any other, literally any other, establishment in the future. A place that actually cares and respects that if I'm paying $18 for beer, I should get what I'm paying/asking for. read more

Went to Lansing brewing company before coming here & my group's vibe was totally killed. After coming to spare times and having Dustin as our server, our night was completely saved and we had a blast. Do NOT recommended for a birthday party. The website says, "When you party with us, it's always no muss, no fuss!" but it was actually a whole lot of fuss and a ton of running around trying to get what you need. Nobody at the front desk knows you booked a party and where you should go or what to do with you, where to tell the guests to go, etc. No event host will be on site, although they claim that's part of the package. Maybe they'll even turn on the lanes after you wait in line a few extra times. You also need to pay $100 just to bring your own cake, which covers someone (eventually) dropping off 10 paper plates and napkins. Even though I was quite clear when booking that this was going to be a party for a bunch of first-graders, the lanes they had reserved were full of XL, heavy balls -- so 10 little kids had to go forage through a busy bowling alley to find something appropriate. I spent more time bussing our tables and trying to hunt down a server for drinks, cups, food, etc. than anything. I don't think I was able to actually watch my son bowl a complete turn, to be honest. The package comes with 2 pizzas and 2 drink pitchers. We ended up ordering two additional pizzas and pitchers of lemonade -- $75 on top of almost $500 for this "birthday party package". There's a reason you won't find their menu prices online ... And many of the arcade games are broken or otherwise unusable. There are plenty of places that can make your kid's birthday special, but this certainly wasn't it. I get that there's a lack of employees these days, but maybe ... don't sell a birthday party package if you can't actually deliver a fun experience right now? We could have dropped $500 on something less stressful for sure. read more

I preface this review with the fact that we have been loyal Spare Time patrons for over a year. Spare Time was excellent until our most recent visit when we walked out due to the rude customer service representative and poor management "assistance." The bowling alley refused to honor a promotion we have been using every time we have previously gone. Instead we were told we could pay $22/hour plus $3.50 per game. For a family of four, this is not reasonable. The bowling alley was completely empty at the time as well. Shame on you Spare Time, you have lost four loyal customers. read more

The hours on the doors need to be updated (says it's open at 11). Also, online it says you can bowl for 2 hours for a certain price as do all their signs in the bowling alley, not true. They only let you bowl for an hour and then you have to go on a waitlist to see if you can bowl for an additional hour, and you end up paying way more. The staff has an awful attitude too. Where to start? We had a group of 12 here for a 30th birthday party. Added one star for the amount of activities, but that's about the extent of the good things I have to say. The service is garbage. 3 bartenders, 3 people waiting to order drinks, 15 minute wait. Totally unacceptable. Finally get the drink, there's no perceptible booze in it. Bartender put mine and my friends on the same tab, even though we ordered at separate times. Told her whatever, didn't want to wait another 15 minutes for her to fix it. One person was on their register the entire time, trying to fix a screw up she made, and we saw this on multiple occasions with different employees throughout the night. They wouldn't do pitchers of Blue Moon, even though they have it on tap, because they buy it in too small of kegs (this from the mouth of a woman seeming like the manager?), but you can order two steins instead that together are larger than a pitcher anyway. During our wait, we heard another gentleman ask for ice for his stein, because his beer was served warm and flat. After we played a round of laser tag, one of our members was feeling unwell. We took him outside for some air, grabbing a chair from two feet inside the doorway for him to sit in. When he stood up, an older employee stomped out the door, angrily swooped up the chair in a very dramatic way, and set it 10 feet away back inside the door without saying a word. In summary, we collectively found this establishment to be overpriced, with terrible service and a poor demeanor toward its paying guests. read more

Came here for a post-dinner date activity on a Friday night. We were bummed to find out they were closing at 10 for a private party. Sort of odd on a Friday night. Oh well. We got in 45 minutes of bowling, but didn't check out the other areas of the facility. The staff were friendly and even added a few minutes to our time for free so we could finish our last game before our 45 minutes were up. Overall, it seemed like a basic bowling alley, which is what we were looking for. The price was a little steep, could get expensive if you had a whole family. But it was refreshing to go to a regular, old-fashioned bowling alley instead of one of those trendy ones that's basically been turned into a nightclub. read more

Great deal for MLK day--unlimited laser tag, $5 arcade card and a hotdog lunch all for 15 dollars. It was really busy but I definitely thought I got my money's worth. Service leaves something to be desired, but the deals are pretty good making to worth it--keep a look out on their website for what deals are on what days. We went last week and had a lot of fun. Today we went and they changed their prices to 25 dollars an hour. We spent 36 dollars for two games of bowling and 10 dollars on the arcade, but the games were 5 dollars a piece, so only got two games out of that. The staff were really friendly, I just couldn't believe how much it cost us. Pretty much anything else we could have done today would have been cheaper then going here. read more

Received extremely rude service from employees during our visit here. When our game was over we went to add a game and we were told there was a wait so we couldn't. This was something that we didn't realize, so it would've been nice to be told this beforehand. Upon going back to our table to pack up the male table busboy came and said " Can you all please hurry so I can clean the table, I've been waiting 10 minutes already". We had small children with us and it hadn't even been 10 minutes. I asked him why he said that when we were literally standing and trying to leave. He said that was part of his job and that we were preventing him from working. Meanwhile the dishes and food he was cleaning up could've been cleaned a long time ago or he could have just started cleaning it while we were getting ready. We were not in his way in the least. In the meantime there were 4 empty lanes around us that no one was even on or appeared to be waiting for. To go and spend $50+ for bowling and pizza for less than an hour of bowling and to get kicked out, was a complete waste for us. We will go to City Limits next time for sure. read more

I went to Spare Time on Valentines day and it was very busy and all the lanes were full. We were put on a wait list but the time went by so quickly because there are a lot of other things to do while you wait. There is a very nice restaurant/lounge area with good food and drinks. The prices weren't bad, we just did $11 for 30 minutes. It was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I will definitely be returning the next time I want to go bowling. read more
