I have known Mike for about 15 years. When I found out that he was providing animal care, I did not hesitate to hire Mike and Sparkle Cat Sitting to watch over my babies. While I expected the same reliability in his work that I knew of Mike from our friendship, I had no idea that he was such a cat lover. Mike was great- I engaged his services while on a trip to check on my 2 cats. I got regular photos and updates on how things were going and how my little guys were doing. When one of them was anxious about being left alone, he brought some cat calming spray for my apartment which helped immensely. He took lots of notes during our meet-and-greet and ask a lot of smart questions to capture all of the nuances of my little girls. Mike doesn't follow directions. I left several post-its to remind Mike of important details, for example: to lock the top lock on the entry door when he left my apartment. When I returned from my vacation the top lock was off. I also left a post-it to remind him to keep a particular window locked. I found the window lock was not on when I returned. Security is an issue in my neighborhood so this was pretty disturbing. After a long flight (13 hours) to my vacation destination and an evening out after my arrival I hadn't heard from Mike, and contacted him to check-in to find out how my two cats were doing. Mike's reply was defensive and he admonished me saying he had just arrived at my apartment, essentially telling me that I was being impatient. I was really floored at his response. When I returned home from my vacation it appeared he had not changed the litter in one of the two boxes and added a thick layer of fresh litter on top of saturated litter. I portioned out 6 bags of litter for Mike to use for each change. There should have been two changes. I provided two extra bags of litter in case he wanted to change both boxes a third time. The amount of litter I portioned out is a 2 inch level of litter from the bottom. This is what I normally do for my cats. The amount of littler in the boxes when I returned was about 4 inches. This seemed really off to me. I never use that much litter. One box was clean and the other box was saturated on the bottom and had fresh litter on the top. When I emailed Mike to enquire he was defensive. And finally, Mike said he would water my plants for me. I found several dead leaves on one plant and the dirt was bone dry. My guess is that he never watered it, tho he claims he did water it one time. I'm so glad my cats appeared fine when I returned. I'm thankful for that. I won't ask Mike to sit for me again. read more

I have a very shy kitty. She has so much personality around my fiancé & I, but sadly shuts down & hides in front of strangers, particularly men. It's been tough finding people we can trust to care for her when we're out of town since she requires a lot of patience & understanding. It's also tough to trust friends to care for your pet since they mean well, but usually don't have the most experience caring for a shy cat or are preoccupied with their own busy lives. Mike has alleviated all our worries! Our cat Celia is still a work in progress, but she's starting to warm up to Mike! He has taken a lot of time to just sit quietly near her and create a safe space for her. He's also given us great advice to help create a calmer space for her. Finally on one of their last visits, she came out to greet Mike! I can't recommend him enough. He cleans the litter, even vaccuums, changes the water bowl, spends actual quality time getting to know your kitty instead of just feeding him or her & leaving, and sends pictures and daily reports of them so you don't feel too homesick for them or have to worry. HIGHLY recommend!! We have two sphynx cats who crave and need lots of attention. We left for a week trip. Mike e-mailed me photos and video updates every day! That in itself was super comforting. Also, when we got back our cats were completely normal. In the past they've been pretty down or upset when we've returned from trips. Not this time! When we came back the house was in order, litter boxes clean, and kitties were very happy! They were their usual selves. For the city, his price is very reasonable as well. I found Mike last year out of many pet sitting services available, and I chose him based on the reviews detailing his considerable experience and reputation as a great caretaker for cats who require a little extra. My sweet 16-year-old kitty had been hospitalized (but was doing great at the time), but there was no way I could go out of town for even an evening without knowing she was in professional hands.
