Mike is awesome. We needed a sitter on short notice, and he quickly made an appointment with us to exchange keys and details and meet the boys. He anticipated all of our questions. Frankly, he was prepared for contingencies and situations we had not considered. That's how "on his game" he is. During his last scheduled cat sit, I didn't lock a door properly and one of my indoor only cats got out (totally my fault)! We simply can not say enough about Mike and Sparkle Cat - without a question, Mike has become part family now!!! Not only does he send daily picture updates during his visits, which is awesome btw, but our cats actually have warmed up to him in a way that they simply do not do with anyone else - EVER!! We had a great kitty sitter before, however, she retired and we scrolled thru Yelp and found Sparkle - we took a chance and hit the proverbial jackpot! Mike watched my two adult cats while I was out of town for a long weekend. When he came to my apartment to meet the cats & pickup the key, he was pleasant & I enjoyed talking to him about his love of travel. However, my two cats seemed to be a bit scared of him, which I assumed was because he had a loud, deep voice. He also didn't take notes while I gave him the instructions on what to do. He ended up being okay, but not great. On the first day he didn't send me an update to let me know if all went well with the pilling of my one cat & I had to contact him to ask. He also contacted me because he couldn't remember where to put out the litter trash. I asked him to leave the key inside the last day & he forgot to do that. When I got home none of the litter had been swept up & he changed the location of their feeding bowls. Each of these things isn't a big deal but altogether suggests he doesn't pay attention to details. If that's important to you, he's probably not the best pet sitter for you. However, my cats seemed fine when I returned so he did cover the most important part of cat sitting. read more

He went above and beyond when we ran out of food faster than anticipated and went to our local cat food store to make sure they weren't without. Referred by a friend to Mike's services and we've never even met, but he's cat-sit for me on a number of occasions and been totally amazing. 1. He has a detailed questionnaire so that HE thinks of all the things and you don't have to worry you missed explaining some nuance about your place or your pet. 2. My sister gave his assistant the house tour and passed on my keys which he has kept on file ever since, so when I go out of town it's a phone call/email exchange and we don't have to meet up. 3. I have an elderly cat that is usually a little unkempt and batshit when I get back from a trip and this is NEVER the case when Mike's on the job. 4. He accepts venmo/paypal - again, it's an easy peasy exchange, which can be done when you're away or busy or whatever. 5. 100% professional and I know he takes time with my cat and gives her some loving -- these aren't hit and run visits where he dumps food in a bowl and switches the litter. I know this b/c of #3 above. 6. Mike sends updates while you're gone so you know what's up. 7. I travel often for work and trips can come up unexpectedly and Mike makes it work with his team of excellent people. I'm probably missing something but I would 100% recommend Sparkle to anyone heading out of town. In fact, even if I had someone staying at my place I would still have Mike come check in because he knows what he's doing and other people often just don't: Case in point - the one time I went away recently and DIDN'T engage Mike my well-meaning house sitter allowed the cat to pee on the couch repeatedly and I came home to a living room turned litter box.
