After seeing their page on Facebook, I hired Sparkles to do our front yard and backyard, which were overgrown with weeds and really messy. Best decision I've made in a long time. James, Angel, and James from Sparkles spent the time and went the extra mile to not only clear the overgrowth and clean things up, but made it look beautiful. Out of the weeds in my backyard, they discovered quite a few beautiful orange and purple wildflowers, and a huge rosemary bush! Most landscapers would probably just tear them out and start all over, but Sparkles saw the opportunity: they collected the flowering plants and re-planted them in a row on the side of our house, and left the bush, which now gives our previously hopeless-looking backyard some shape and inspiration. This was all done without spending any extra money to purchase new plants. They took what we had and created the beginnings of an impressive landscape. They also went the extra mile by removing the weeds in the cracks of our sidewalk. It looks like a totally different house. I'm already dreaming of all the cool stuff we could do next. Angel and the Jameses (hey, that's kind of a cool band name!) were full of useful information and ideas. I was very pleased to find that their approach to weed control is very consistent with mine: they make their own weed killer and don't use glyphosate-based weed killers, but rather a combination of salts, herbicidal soap, and vinegar, which is very powerful and effective WITHOUT causing cancer. I was so glad that I called Sparkles, and I wish that I'd known about them a couple years ago. They're environmentally friendly, have a great eye for landscaping, and are just good, honest people who do great work. They're what a family business should be. Amazingly, they are also quite reasonably priced! Needless to say, I'll be hiring Sparkles as my landscaper from now on, and will hire them for home improvement work as well. They've changed my belief that it was impossible to find someone honest and reasonably priced in Brooklyn to do work on my house. Sparkles, you rock. Had an overgrown back yard from tenets that neglected it. I didn't know how or where to start the clean up. After I called James and his family came by as soon as they could and started to work. Not only did they remove all the weeds, they also removed all the useless fenceing. They cleaned up the back yard before leaving. They did an awsome job and the price was very reasonable. I'm very late in posting my review for Sparkles, but better late than never, right? We bought our home 2 years ago and one of the selling points was the size of our yard. It's huge for Queens standards and we saw so much potential but needed some direction as well as a company that could work within our budget. We had several landscaping companies come and give us these wonderfully over the top ideas & suggestions while knowing our budget. A few days later we'd hear from them and get a crazy estimate that would be 2-3x higher than what we were wiling to spend. I actually found Sparkles on Yelp. I loved the pictures that were posted and called James to come check out the yard. He was super professional, very personable and was able to create our vision within our budget. He took our 2 problem areas (circular patio area that once housed an above ground pool & a patch of sloped dirt and helped us create our little oasis. Now we have a nice, neat lawn and a circular sitting area with step stones and pebbles in addition to our dining area. The transformation is amazing. Any additional sod was used in the surrounding areas and he used some random big stones that were already there to create a design element & pull the whole yard together. The actual work was done by James, his son, and his wife, Angel. They were gracious, professional and hardworking. The work was completed in 1 day but it was scheduled for 2. Once they realized that a few more hours would mean completion, they went into overdrive. The result exceeded our expectations. We are so happy with everything. read more

We asked James and his family to clear our dense, neglected and overgrown jungle of a backyard last week. They arrived on time and in about 5 hours, they cleared the yard of all of the crazy weeds and bushes and even a couple of small trees. The transformation was amazing. The family is hard-working and polite, careful in making sure dirt does not end up where it doesn't belong and tidy in bagging all of the yard waste. A side-note: you should think about how you'll remove your yard waste. James and family cannot take the waste with them so hiring a waste hauler to pick up the yard waste is a good idea. In short, I can't recommend Sparkles Home Improvement enough and I would definitely hire them again. read more

James and his crew did the most amazing job of transforming an ugly yard that started with debris, uneven ground, broken and shifted pavers into a beautiful space. They performed a perfect job for everything, from clearing the mess that was there before, leveling the ground, to setting down new pavers, building planters and fencing, planting a garden, and laying down gravel. Everything they did was of excellent quality and will obviously last for years and years. His crew was hard working, earnest, trustworthy, very respectful of my home and fair when it came to finances. They were flexible in coming up with solutions to unexpected issues that came up. This Spring, I hired Sparkles Home Improvement to overhaul my parents' front yard. My parents' yard was overgrown with weeds and they had made a disastrous DIY rock garden. Their front yard was an eyesore. I hired Sparkles to get rid of all the junk in their front yard and to lay down sod. They really cleaned up the area and made the house look respectable again. I love that it's a family business. I didn't get to meet them myself, but my parents said that they were very courteous and worked hard throughout the day. I am so grateful to them! read more

I'm a bit late in writing my review, but I have to give credit where it is due. We used Sparkles Landscaping to transform our little Brooklyn patch of dirt into a little backyard oasis. James and his team were really a pleasure to work with. This was my first time having landscaping done, and James always responded promptly and helpfully to my questions. When there was a delay with getting the sod from the distributor for the project, James took the time to call and explain the situation to me and gave a partial discount due to the need to reschedule. The team did a really incredible job, and we are so happy with the results. Even after the placement of the sod, James checked in with us a few times and offered advice for proper care and maintenance. I'd highly recommend them! read more

Last summer I had a BBQ coming up and my backyard looked horrific. My neighbors have a berry tree which stretches into my yard dropping berries everywhere. I also had a lot of weeds grown up. I went searching on the internet for someone in my area to come out and clean my backyard. James and his crew did a fantastic job cutting up all of the limbs, pulling up weeds and trimming the bushes. They did a great job, tending to the bushes and doing some plantings for my mom in our lawn. All at a reasonable price. They return your telephone call.They listen and understand your wishes. They are a family owned business and they show up and do the work themselves, not sending workers which is a common practice among landscapers. They are nice and value your business. The small front lawn and bushes at my parents house had not been maintained this season and mom was not happy. They came to give me an estimate and returned to do the job within days. I read the reviews of Sparkles and I was very excited to use them to help us clean out the bamboo in our backyard. At first they were very responsive, but when we went to book them for the job, suddenly they stopped responding to any calls or emails. If they no longer wanted the job that's fine but I wish they would have at least sent me a note to let me know. In the time I wasted waiting for them to get back to me, many other places are now booked. read more

I highly recommend Sparkles home-improvement. My backyard was a mess and James along with his team has managed to turn it into the first thing I want to show off to people when they come to my house. They did a fantastic job. James was very reasonable with the price and his communication skills are top notch. However the most impressive thing was the speed, they redid my entire backyard in two days. That includes laying pavers over a large area fixing the wall adding outlets and planting trees. Sparkles came to help me give life to my front lawn. They provide the quality of service that you'd expect from a family business. They took great care in understanding what we wanted and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. I highly recommend then for anyone looking for landscaping work. Adjusting my review after having more work done by Sparkles but don't change my original impression of their work. Things to note when contracting with them is that they are a small family run business so there are positives and negatives to that. We had a disagreement on scheduling management which i believe is a result of that but they also were lacking in care to detail. We had them redo our backyard by putting in a pergola and above ground flower bed. They didn't paint the tops of the rafters or the corner posts in the flower beds (which i learned after will lead to rotting sooner) and they also didn't account for soil for the flower bed or notify my that i'd have to deal with garbage removal until they were nearly done. I don't regret having hired them cause now that it's done we have a backyard that we love to spend time in but if I were doing this all over again, I might reconsider having someone else do the work so there wouldn't be so much i had to deal with after the fact. Note that they did offer to come back and redo the missing painting due to a different disagreement after the work was completed, I opted to fix it myself. read more
