I got a Flowmaster exhaust from another shop in July which I absolutely hated. Brought my truck in to Sparks performance And had it done right with a magna flow exhaust. Now I couldnt be happier with the way it sounds. Ended up coming back because I was so stoked on the shop and got some Bilstein 5100s put on. I highly recommend going to this shop first before anywhere else.

You were curious what the exhaust was going on....

Earlier this year, she'd started leaking transmission fluid and she'd already had a long time issue with keeping the cooling system going... I also knew my brakes were acting up but well...money! So for months and months it was refill the radiator and transmission and cross my fingers! Finally I did some research and decided John's was the place to go! After I dropped her off, I was given a list of other issues she had (a few belts and hoses) which didn't surprise me any given her age! lol! My chassis and internal mechanisms aren't what THEY once were either! Ha! Anyway I told them yes, to go ahead and repair the "must have fixed" issues! She was returned to me in a timely manner and for what I would call an extremely fair price (under $2500) for 3 major repairs, an oil change and even a few new belts and filters! The staff were wonderful with keeping me up to date on how things were going along the way too ...as she's nearly 40 some parts took a minute! Anyway after all these months since I took her in, she's STILL running like a top and even though I check my coolant and transmission fluid regularly, she has never even needed topping off so she's sound as a drum! I'm SO glad I found this shop with all these kind, caring, knowledgeable (and most of all FAIR!) people working away to make my old girl run like she used to!

I'm not going to those stay in your car oil change places anymore because I was tired of the up selling and they didn't replace my air filter lid last time they were trying to upsell. JAC had my car back to me in a prompt manner. I'll return.

I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see him, several appeared to be repeat customers, and there was an obvious level of trust between them. After my own experience, I completely understand why. Alex also has a great sense of humor, which made the whole experience much less stressful. Most importantly, the humming noise is completely gone, and my car drives perfectly again. If you're looking for an honest, knowledgeable mechanic who charges fair prices and genuinely cares about his customers, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex and Value Auto Repair. I know I'll definitely be back.

I did some research and chose Max Auto Service in La Mesa, the owners Roger, head mechanic and his wife Maria that runs the office. I called and Maria is so very professional, knowledgeable and personable that I immediately felt confident in choosing them. My car was towed in, the job was done, no issues and my car ran great. About a month later the serpentine belt came off which caused the car to overheat and for once I didn't have to Google for mechanics. I needed a diagnostic done to see if there was engine damage due to overheating, replace the belt and anything else needed. I called Max Auto Service and Maria got me right in. When I delivered the car, I told Roger that for five years, my car has had a substantial coolant leak, but it has never overheated because I continually was filling the radiator, every single day. You can't imagine how much antifreeze I have gone through in five years. I had taken it to three different shops during those years and none could fix the issue. One quoted me $3,500 just to "look into it". Well the serpentine belt coming off was a blessing in disguise because, Roger had my car for a few days, did the diagnostic, no engine damage, repaired the initial issue AND there is no longer a coolant leak !! It's been three weeks and I haven't had to add any coolant !!! After FIVE YEARS, Roger solved it ! Thank you so much Roger and Maria, you are KEEPERS !!

She was incredibly communicative and made the whole process smooth and stress-free. I went in for an oil change, which cost around $60 for 5 quarts of synthetic oil. Additionally, I had a tire balance and rotation done, bringing my total to about $135. Maria's transparency and thoroughness were truly impressive. She informed me about everything without any pressure to purchase services I didn't need. Impressed by their service, I've already scheduled another appointment for my 135,000-mile checkup, which includes brake fluid replacement and fixing a cracked belt. Maria's kindness and extensive knowledge made me feel confident in their care. I'm thrilled that La Mesa Car Service is just down the street from my house. I wholeheartedly recommend them to all my friends, family, and clients. If you're looking for top-notch car care with a personal touch, this is the place to go! UPDATE: 7/1/25 I've brought my 2012 Infiniti here a couple times now, and every experience has been amazing. Most recently, I had a check engine light come on right before I was about to sell the car. They took me in immediately, diagnosed and resolved the issue quickly, and even printed a full report so I could show the buyer everything was taken care of--no stress, no hassle. This shop is incredibly trustworthy. Maria and her husband are the best--super honest, helpful, and efficient. I just bought a new 2025 Porsche Cayenne and without a doubt, I'll be bringing her here for service too. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for honest, reliable car care in La Mesa!

I always do my research, and unfortunately my assessment turned out to be correct even before Allman completed their diagnostics. Mike at Allman spent a great deal of time walking me through different scenarios and options, providing detailed estimates for each. I also requested additional estimates, including a full engine replacement, so I could make a fully informed decision. While their estimate was less than dealership service departments, it was slightly higher than another independent shop. After researching the difference, I found it came down to Allman using OEM parts rather than cheaper aftermarket parts made overseas. I don't use cheap parts on my vehicles, so that made the decision easy. Once I felt fully comfortable, I chose Allman and I'm glad I did. Mike kept me informed throughout the process, and my Jeep was back on the road even earlier than estimated. Thank you, Allman Family Auto, for the honesty, transparency, and quality work.

After I raised concerns about what I believed was a misdiagnosis and being overcharged for repairs that did not fix the original issue with my vehicle, I reached out to the shop directly to address the situation. To their credit, once I called them out and explained the ongoing problem, they agreed to take another look at my car. Upon re-evaluation, they acknowledged that the initial repair did not resolve the root issue. They worked on the vehicle again and ultimately fixed the original problem at no additional charge. I appreciate that they took responsibility and made the effort to correct the situation. While my initial experience was frustrating and felt misleading, I do recognize their willingness to make things right after the fact. I hope moving forward they improve their diagnostic process to prevent similar issues for other customers. Updating my review to reflect both the initial experience and the resolution.
