Bettina couldn't be more right! Sparky's is a gay Cheers. The owners worked really hard to make it feel like a neat Yankee / Irish pub and they did a good job with it, then they sprinked some rainbow and unicorn dust on it and VOILA a gay Cheers! The bathrooms are really clean and the service is above average for a gay bar. My parents come here a lot and they love the drinks. They have good happy hour specials and Vinny H. is right on with the music. Mainly top 40, Club and Dance; it keeps the night going! In the past I've asked for water without a problem. This time not only did I get yelled at by the manager but I also got escorted out by security when I asked multiple times for tap instead of bottled water on a DEAD night and after explaining I live close and come often. Seems a little overkill. I hope they figure out how real businesses treat customers. Won't be back anytime soon. read more

Sparky's is the nicest gay bar I've been to in San Antonio. It's clean and very well kept up with very good drink specials. If you are looking for a cool gay bar this is your best bet. As far as gay bars in San Antonio go, its better but still not great. A lot of that is the crowd....there is only so much you can do with a ghetto crowd with minimal education. However, there are a few things that I wish the bar would do. 1) Get rid of the bathroom attendant....seriously annoying! 2) Instruct the bar staff to be friendly but keep your eyes on the bar. Too many times I've had to wait for service while the bar staff is just having conversations 3) Keep you drink prices consistent (at least after happy hour) 4) Stop playing ghetto music....keep it classy. Let the bar next door cater to that crowd. 5) Door staff needs to be friendlier....completely rude. read more

I love that smoking is outside only. You can smoke in the front & see who's coming or sneak away to the back to smoke or hang anywhere & not smoke. The restrooms are clean! Yay! Now there's a Tapa's bar area I'm eager to try out. read more

This pub was definitely jumping saturday night. the music was on point for sure. the bartenders were a bit selective on their service. we waited at least 20 minutes to close our tab after telling the bartender we wanted to do so. i know we are females, but damn if they would have served us right they would have found out we were big tippers. women and men of all kind were there that night. my friend that was with us made a comment about some of the guys, "guys walk around the bar looking left to right seeing if there is any meat out there for them." lol too funny. good night overall. the drinks were fair priced and had a good amount of alcohol. although i've had stronger. :) read more

So last night my friend and I wanted to take a bike ride in this wonderful San Antonio weather and have a few drinks. We thought of north downtown. We decided Sparkys would be great! Not so much. Fiirst there wasnt any bike rack or facilitiy for us to secure our bikes. We were advised to go to the alley and park our bikes in the dark! Then, We were stoped at the door because my friend had a travel sachel (backpack). "We dont allow backpacks in here", said the doorman. I asked, "Why", but no answer came from the robot just a refusal to let us in. So...dont plan a nice bike ride and a few drinks to Sparky's..They obviously are not to keen on the bike friendly movement that San Antonio is moving towards....Get it together Sparky's and maybe we will give you another chance... It's fun if you are piss drunk. The first time I went, it was great. The music was good, they played music from Peaches, Diva Avari, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and other cool weird dance shit. The women were hot and the guys were sexy. NOW, they play a little bit of Tejano, ghetto ass booty shit and Pitbull. If you love Pitbull, LMFAO and Cumbias, this is the place for you. It's way to packed and it smelled like ass last night. Like really bad. So bad I went to the patio with the smokers and I hate smoke. Too many overweight people too. I know that sounds shallow, but I can't help that I want to be where the people are good looking. I don't love mullets and stringy hair on a woman. If I liked guys, I wouldn't want thug life either. I always have a good time here. Always a fun vibe inside. Drinks are good. Prices are average. I decided not to be ignored by the main bar so we went outside and we were helped promptly. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in my life! I'm a regular and live across the street. Even the security recognized my service and me. So it was devastating that, last Friday 23rd of September, on the back patio... the bar back stole my wallet. When my group of friends and I asked for help from the bar tender. she lied and intentionally tried to prevent us from finding my retired military ID, if not my entire wallet. The 4 different employees we asked for help from refused to even tell us if there was a lost and found. The bar back stole my wallet, hid it behind another bar and then pretended like he had never seen any of us. Thoroughly disappointing! That was after waiting 45 minutes just to have the bartender deign us with her presence! What a bunch of rude, belittling people. Sad to say I'm a regular and tonite was a disappointment. This place has smelled like throw up and today I found the same stench. There were multiple spills and no one bothered to clean it up. There was a big spill on the floor and it never was cleaned up. My girlfriend mentioned it to the bar back and was given attitude as if it wasn't her job. Very disappointing. C'mon people you want business keep it presentable or you'll loose customers. I hope this gets cleared up if not I'm out. Plus others, trust me word will spread. read more

This place is great to hangout and have a drink with friends. The drinks are strong not watered down like other places. During the week its pretty chill on the weekend it gets packed, and a little frustrating cause you can barely walk to the bar. Sometimes it takes a while to get your drink, especially when the bartenders let their friends cut and give them their drinks before everyone who have been waiting a long time. I haven't been here for sometime which i know getting a beverage takes a long time. It was my first Sunday-funday as they call it and it was not as fun! The place was empty and we went to the first bar to get a drink. The bartender ignored us and went to talk to his friends on the other side of the bar. So we decided to go to the other bar where the bartender (did not catch her name, but she did say she was new) took our drink order. We ordered 2 drafts and they were horrible! We took one sip and told her to get us 2 regular bottle beer's instead. I told her the beers tasted like chlorine and she said "well, you dont want them, I'll throw them out"! Lmao. ...she dumped them and then charged me "AGAIN" for the drinks. I really dont care for the money being dropped ($12.00) plus tip...but really? All i can say we left this place and headed to the Pegasus instead! This place is a rip off. This place needs better customer service starting with the bartender's. Good place to go on the Strip, by FAR has the cleanest bathrooms. Bartenders can be a little stuck up, expect to wait to get served. Music is good for the most part, and drinks are more expensive than other clubs on the Strip. read more
