I wish I could gate keep this place as it's already quite busy, but it's just too good to keep to myself. Highly recommend reservations (through their Facebook page) but if you arrive early enough, you can get one of the two back corner tables. My husband and I really enjoy coming out here for karaoke and good drinks! It's an older crowd which is kinda our speed these days. Lol It's a nice place for date night. My husband says the sounds system and mic are really good which is why he likes coming out here. Dad's is fun, but here you can definitely sing more than two songs a night. We went here Saturday night to see a live band that started at 9PM. We we're meeting a group of friends. My husband and I got here around 8:35. We paid the 10$ a person cover. The bar was not full but every single table and every single barstool at the bar and another bar top seating had reserved signs on them. That seemed really strange considering your charging a cover and there is no place to sit down. My husband went to the lady who had just taken our cover and asked why there were no seats available. She said if people did not come by 9:30 they would take the reserved signs off. Getting a drink was difficult. This bar has many regulars and the bar staff was busy taking care of them. Our friends get there and 6 of us are in a corner around a small table, at 9:35 we move the table in front of ours to allow us to spread out a bit. The lady at the front who took our cover came to our table and asked why we had pulled the table to ours. I told her that you can't charge a cover charge for an event if every seat is taken. The lady got all upset and told me I did not have to have that attitude. My whole thing is if every seat is reserved then it needs to be closed for a private party. Please also inform people before they pay the cover that there is not seating until a certain time. The music was good. The drinks at the bar were very slow. They seem to have a very loyal crowd of regulars. Hopefully the owners/managers understand that customer service matters when your in the hospitality business. read more

An eclectic mix of folks in attendance on a Thursday evening. Young folks, retired type folks and a birthday party. Alas, one bartender taking care of everyone - those seated at the bar, those seated at the counter and those seated at tables. Whew! She was moving and succeeding. We were at the counter. A good spot to watch the action. Karaoke is run very well. It was Robert running the show. You tell him what you want to sing and he puts you in the queue. When new singers show up, he sprinkles them in, but the order of the initial singers is maintained. It's a pretty fair process. Karaoke starts at 9pm. It must be very prompt, because there were already people singing at 9:10pm when we arrived. There is a stage with a step (thank god) on the left side. The singers are very good. I would say there was only one weak singer, but that's because she sang something totally out of her range. Otherwise, she was good. The woman's bathroom has two stalls with locking doors. Toilet paper, soap and towels in ample supply. Prices are reasonable. A Jack and Coke was $6 and Bud Light was $3.50. I'd go back. read more

This is one of the nicest Clubs I have had the pleasure of going too, since I have resided here from Las Vegas. The owner is a great guy, friendly amicable and deals with the karaoke singers really well. I have had to change my songs many times at the last minute and never had a cross word from him. I do not drink much and usually go there for the karaoke but when I have had a drink, they were fine not watered down as someone mentioned. This is a locals place and a one-of-a-kind in San Antonio We've been going here for years, each time we visit San Antonio. It's kind of hard to get to, located just outside of North Star Mall, on McCullough Ave, south of Loop 410. Owned and operated by Wayne Harper, he was a performer in Vegas years ago. His act, which he does on Friday and Saturday nights, consists of covering many 'classic' hits with this 3 piece band. Anything and everything from Neil Diamond, The Beatles, CCR and even some Mariachi and Tejano thrown in. He is very entertaining and he always puts on a good show. During the week they offer Karaoke. 2021 Martini Club Well, what can you say about this place. For one it is a mere shadow of what it once was. You have to pay to get in the door to listen to, in most cases, really bad bands and really bad mixed drinks. Sad. The mixed drinks are served by drink slingers, not a real drink mixer. Also, the drinks are made over the open ice bin. Lots of stuff falling into the ice bin. The mens' bathroom does not even have a door. The decor is thread bare, with torn carpet and ripped seats. I would be ashamed to entertain guest or a date here. This place would be more suited out on Austin Highway in an old house with a dirt parking lot. read more

I had no idea this place existed! Did you? Martini Club is hidden over by Park North but it's a diamond in the rough. The girls and I visited before a movie night to enjoy some cocktails during Happy Hour. The Bartender (male - don't remember his name) was WONDERFUL! He really looked and acted like he knew what he was doing behind the bar and was patient with our large group of indecisive females. He was conversing with us as well and very accommodating even helping us carry all our drinks to our table. Don't let the dingy lights and outdated decor fool you. These drinks are top notch. Honestly I'd give this place a 5 but it kinda smelt bad like cleaning supplies. For a Friday late afternoon it was not crowded and it looked like they had a DJ / Band setting up for the night. A couple of TVs as well that had ESPN on. We were only there for a short time but as we were leaving the place started to fill up. I love this place so much. It's my favorite place that I never remember to go to. Martini's is a 70's Vegas style lounge with the most entertaining cover artist. Wayne is seriously a character. I've seen him switch from Lee Greenwood to Pharrel songs back to back, and he takes requests. He'll buy you birthday shots and make you dance, if you're celebrating there. Drinks are pretty overpriced, but you don't pay a cover for the show, so it is completely worth it. Martinis range about $11 per and a Lonestar was $4.50, but I'd rather pay more for my drinks than have to pay a cover. The seats are always packed early, so get there and claim your seats soon, or you'll end up standing. read more

The karaoke was nice, but I was very disappointed with the drinks. A group of friends came here for our last night in town. I tried a martini first and it was watered down. My friend's husband bought a round of tequila shots for everyone and it tasted like water with tequila flavor. That was very tasteless and cheap to water down your alcohol! My night at Martini's can be described in a few choice words: hubris, laziness, and vomit. Vomit, you say? Yes, vomit. The smell of vomit was the first thing to hit my nostrils as we walked in. The next thing was the crowd. We came on a Friday as per suggestions from other reviewers. I did feel like I was instantly transported to a janky Vegas lounge, complete with a white haired Neil Diamond. This whole "club" is a manifestation of Wayne's hubris. While he takes the stage in his denim on denim ensemble, he leaves the bar in the hands of severely unqualified waitresses and bartenders. Nevertheless I kept an open mind because I was hoping to find a replacement for the worlds best martini bar back home. As we sat down, the waitress came over and asked for our drink order. I asked if they have any specials and she said "everything is like $8" I said what about wells? She said $8. Well, hell. I may as well order a martini for those prices. Problem is, I think there is only one menu in the whole place and when we asked for it, she looked like we asked for her first born. I'm sorry, but for a Martini Club I was expecting a menu to be presented when seated. I ordered a UTI prevention in a glass. Well, that's not the name of the drink but all I can remember was all the cranberry juice in my glass. I then ordered a Big Red, not the soda but their specialty martini. The waitress took my order and came back to tell me they don't have Big Red. I kinda looked dumbfounded and opened up the menu again to find another drink. She said "oh! We have a drink called Big Red?!" Cue my fourth jaw drop of the night. A friend was ready to join us and the table next to us had opened up so we asked if we could occupy the other table. The waitress said "Will they be drinking? I don't want someone who isn't drinking taking up a table" Aside from the awful service and drinks (Average wait time for a drink was 15+ minutes) Wayne's show was hokey but entertaining nonetheless. What did i expect from a bar opened for the sole purpose of giving the owner a stage? Although it boggled my mind why he kept introducing his drummer, only to then have the drummer introduce Wayne. I won't be going back. Turns out the martinis were almost $12 a pop and $7 for wells. My bill was a cool $45 (I didn't even get a buzz). When we asked to see the bill, not just the credit card receipt she refused. It wasn't until all of us made a ruckus that she complied. As we were writing our tips she kept coming asking if we were done and looking over our shoulder to see what we were tipping. Hilariously, this was the most attentive she had been all night. I could have found a dive bar down the street that would have made better martinis for half the price, with better service. Do yourself a favor and throw on the new Liberace bio pic, buy some vodka and olives and avoid Martini's at all cost. read more

San Antonio is what I call an "event paralysis" city. The only places to go are on the riverwalk or downtown and the parking is a huge pain and there are lines and in the end, its just exhausting. Enter The Martini Club. What used to be a nondescript, practically top secret club with just a brass plaque outside, is now "The Martini Club" (insert neon and sweeping hand gesture here". Strangely empty, every other time i've been there its packed. Regardless, Wayne Harper rocked out billy joel, neil diamond, willie nelson, creedence. We had a fabulous time in the dark vegas style place. They do lose a star for their dumb as bricks waitress. We ordered gin and tonic, vodka soda. Then had to order it twice more. She did have a nice rack though, which i am guessing is the point. Note: You can smoke here during the week, just not Friday/Saturday which is a HUGE improvement. It's been a while since I've been, but I looooove The Martini Club!!! Apparently it's been so long that I've been there that it's now officially called Martini's. ;) This is one of those places in San Antonio that only locals know about. My boyfriend (now husband) told me stories about The Martini Club before I moved to San Antonio five years ago and I knew would be my kind of place. It's located in an assuming strip mall across the street from North Star Mall and they now have a sign that you can actually see from the road, but just a couple of years ago the only indication that it was there was the small gold plaque outside the door and the number of cars in the parking lot on Friday and Saturday nights. This place is SO much fun!!! I've been on a number of occasions and have never had anything less than a great time! Wayne is a Las Vegas lounge-style performer, but he's actually pretty good and people get SO into it. Requests are made by writing song titles on scraps of paper, attaching dollar bills to them, and putting them on the stage. I heard that Wayne actually used to perform in Vegas, but that may just be legend. Either way, this man is a legend in San Antonio and most certainly to me. How awesome to open your own martini bar and say "I'm going to be the headlining act EVERY Friday and Saturday night!"? IMO, one of the things that makes this place so special is the confluence of older and younger people that it attracts. You may see a group of rowdy college age kids just there for a night out, alongside a group of people celebrating a 40th, 50th, or 60th birthday. I also love the way the hottie waitresses that float around the bar in their tight rhinestone studded tshirts taking drink orders and every once in a while getting up on stage and singing alongside Wayne. This is a great place to go for a special occasion or after a late dinner on Saturday night. If you're going with a group, get there early to make sure you get a table. It's dead early, but it's definitely worth it to get in there and claim your spot. If there are just a few of you, take your time, the action usually starts after 10 or so. read more
