Dr. Berardino is amazing! We've been here about a year now and are very pleased with the care our senior pup receives. They always clearly explain why and how things happen, and why they will proceed with the route of care they chose for my dog. They very clearly know their stuff and if a doctor isn't around when you call, they leave a message for them to return your call when they can. Usually very prompt! If I could give zero stars I would. Our Pom went into the vet for oral surgery. While she was in recovery post op they put her in a cage approximately 4 feet off of the floor. They never locked the cage door. As she was coming out of anesthesia my Pom stood up in the cage and fell out onto the floor. She wound up breaking a canine tooth and needing more oral surgery. They did pay for the second surgery but that's not the point. My Pom would never have had to have the second surgery if it was not for their negligence and stupidity to "forget" to lock the cage door. My little pup is now disfigured because her upper lip does not fully rest normally. The front office staff always seems confused when we check in and often say that we do not have an appointment when in fact I have the confirmation email right in front of me. The actions of this office and negligence and causing harm to my little furbaby was the last straw. We did think about bringing legal action but the time and money would mostly be for naught. Think hard before bringing your pets here. We now have found an excellent vet and will never return to Rau. read more

I just transferred my dogs health care to Rau a couple of months ago because I moved. I took him there for his initial visit and had a pretty good experience. I called them this morning (around 8:15) to reschedule an appointment I had for tomorrow and the woman I spoke with was very unpleasant and rude and kept sighing during the call as if I was bothering her and practically hung up on me. I know people can become desensitized as they go through their daily routine and talking to clients, but being rude is unacceptable and needs to be called out. This was disappointing, but hope this experience doesn't speak for the practice themselves. read more

The staff was very nice but the prices are absolutely absurd. $115 for: - A "physical exam", which consisted of them feeling my cats belly for a second ($68) - A "pharmaceutical bundle", which was a tiny pill I'm supposed to give my cat to calm him before getting a teeth cleaning ($10) - A tiny fecal container ($37!!!!!) Then they charged me an additional $95 a week after that visit for blood work, which I assumed I was charged for while I was there. This was all before I was even quoted $650-$900 for the teeth cleaning for my perfectly healthy cat. I live right down the street from this place too, but there's no way I'm coming back here for these prices. Extremely disappointed. read more

This review is LONG overdue! I've been taking my service alert dog to Rau now for the last year. I can say honestly I don't know why I did not start here, but gratefully I ended up here and will stay. My dog is a senior dog, 12years and 10 months. He's a Boarder Collie Mix. He's has some skin issues, GI issues and recently some joint issues. I saw Dr. Emily and most impressed with her vastly large CV dedicated to geriatric dogs. It's quite difficult to find a specialist in veterinary medicine in Geriatrics. What I was most impressed with was Dr. Emily treated the patient, not the disease! She took time to actively listen to my concerns, observed my dog and took a genuine interest in his history and detail of data before presenting treatment options. My previous Veterinary Hospital would have NOT done this. There comes in point in animal medicine where you must treat the symptoms and make you dog as comfortable as possible to live his geriatric years as best as possible, without un-necessarily potentially compromising their system. I'm grateful for Dr. Emily and her compassion to geriatric animal medicine, her compassion for the soul and spirt of her patients. And her genuine interest in the health and welfare of her patients. I am a pet sitter and some of my clients use Rau. I have had to bring their pets in sometimes while the owners are away on vacation, and the care always seems top-notch. They saw my dog while our vet was closed and he had cracked one of his nails and was in a lot of pain. Our usual vet is much closer to our house, but a couple weeks ago we again had a somewhat emergency incident with my dog and Rau was able to see him again last minute and provided great and thorough care. Despite the further drive, I am switching all of my care to this vet. We do like our old vet, but the wonderful service we received as well as knowing some of their other customers, has convinced me to make the change. They are the best! read more

I am giving them one star because I can't put no stars. About a week ago my dog is scheduled for a dentistry. She had to take 17 teeth out because of abscesses etc. She was not sent home with antibiotics. Four days later her eye swelled up. I took her back to Rau and they sent her home with antibiotics. But it was too late. Her I started to get worse so I took her to Metropolitan veterinary Hospital where they ran a CAT scan and there were teeth root fragments exposed. The abscess she had in her mouth went behind her eye. Which made her blind out of that eye and the only way to get to the abscess was to remove her eyeball. Thankfully they're paying for all her vet bills. But I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Them paying the bills does not bring my dogs eye back. read more

I recently made a first appointment and booked a boarding reservation at Rau animal hospital. I received an automated email requesting I call to confirm an upcoming reservation. The person I spoke to then refused to honor the reservation. She was snippy and rude, and did not seem to understand their booking system. This was a sharp contrast to the woman I had spoken with originally who was a pleasure. Fortunately this was all still a few weeks out and we were able to make other arrangements, but I can only imagine the disaster if they had pulled the rug out from under at the intake appointment (since cancelled) or even worse on the day of travel. We had been ready to switch to Rau for all of our vet needs on the strong recommendation of a friend who has had nothing but good experiences, but now the search goes on. read more

Dr. Maryanne Miko Flasik and the vet assistant, whose name I did not get, made this unpleasant experience as pleasant as it could have been. They had me park around back and come into their "comfort room" for this process. It's a cozy, homey and quiet living room type room. They gave us the time to spend with Percy and explained what would occur. Both were so gentle and genuinely compassionate and caring. I called this vets office yesterday to try to get my dog in as a new patient due to a pretty severe ear infection. When calling I found out that they've been all booked up for a while but to call them today at 8am to see if they have an appointment available today. I did that and was able to get in same day. They are handling COVID really well and have safety precautions put in place, which made me feel safer. The vet took excellent care of my dog, gave us a clear diagnosis for his ear infection and medicine to help him. We have another check up in two weeks so I'm all around very pleased. read more

I had another great experience at RAU animal hospital this week and even though I know I have reviewed them before, this deserves another review! First off, to anyone looking for a vet, I highly highly recommend RAU (or RAU TOO). They are simply the BEST. I have had a chance to meet almost all of the vets, all of the techs and all of the receptionists and I can honestly say I have NEVER walked out of RAU disappointed. They are a very experienced, knowledgeable and caring staff and and they REALLY do treat our pets as if they were their own.. Thank you to EVERYONE who has ever helped me, or my animals. You guys are AMAZING. Onto this week's visit I really have to point out some of the people that helped me out and some of the ways they went above and beyond to make this experience so great. I had to take my dog JJ in for his senior checkup. He is 13 years old now. Like most of you reading this, I consider my pets my FAMILY. JJ isn't "just a dog". He is my baby and I love him so much. And as he gets older even regular checkups can become very nerve wracking because you just never know what could go wrong. I am always scared they are going to find something bad, and though I know if they did he would be given the very best care, I just always hope and pray for the best. Right off the bat I was welcomed by Robin the receptionist, who I have spoken with before. She is very sweet and friendly and she started off the visit in a positive way, and also ended the visit in a positive way. Being greeted by someone like her just puts you in a good mood to begin with. She also took time out to talk to me about her senior pets who are actually older than JJ and how well they were doing and that calmed my fears a bit about JJ's age. Very comforting. Next up was meeting with Christine the vet tech. I honestly don't think a lot of people recognize HOW MUCH WORK vet techs do and how vital they are to appointments. They don't just say hi, weight your dog and move on. They contribute SOOOO much and having a good vet tech is absolutely essential!!!! And Christine is not just good, she's FANTASTIC!!!!!! A few months ago JJ was very sick and she went out of her way to contact me and stay in touch regarding him. We ended up speaking A LOT prior to this visit about some of my concerns and every single time she took time out to explain things in detail, reassure me about things that I was nervous about, and inform me of things that were important. She made me and JJ feel like family. Not just "clients". She even went so far as to make sure she would be there for JJ's appointment because she knew his history and knew how comfortable I am with her. However, her schedule ended up changing and unfortunately she would not be at the office at the time of JJ's appointment. But that didn't stop her. Christine actually left work, came home after a long day, then drove BACK to RAU specifically for my appointment. If that's not dedication, I don't know what it. Yes, I am sure the other techs would have been great, but having her there meant SO MUCH TO ME. I knew she would help me stay calm, I knew she would take great care of JJ and I knew she would be on top of everything. The fact that she did that just blew me away. Thank you SOO much Christine for all you have done over the past years and especially the last few months for me and JJ. You really go above and beyond! Then almost immediately after I went back, Dr. Murphy came into the room. Like I said, I have met and love all the vets at RAU. But Dr. Murphy is JJ's regular vet. She knows what's normal for him, she knows I'm going to have a BILLION questions and she always makes sure I leave with EVERYTHING taken care of. I literally went over a list of questions and concerns that was REALLY long and she took the time to answer EVERY SINGLE ONE. She, like Christine, knows I get extreme anxiety worrying about JJ and they both always comfort me, hug me and calm me while still doing their jobs PERFECTLY. And then she followed up with me today after his blood work came back and discussed anything else that we needed to talk about. Another thing that Dr. Murphy, Christine and the RAU staff did was go over everything so that I would be able to file a claim with my Pet Insurance. (I choose pet plan). They always type up the notes in detail (which pet insurances require) and are always willing to fax invoices, notes or whatever Pet Plan requests ASAP so that I am able to get my claims processed right away. Honestly I could write a book on how much I love RAU. They are simply the best Veterinary Practice in this area and I am so lucky to have a staff I can trust to take care of my precious JJ and my three cats. And all of the pets that I have brought to them in the past. In the past I have had rabbits and rats and they are excellent with ALL of the types of pets I have brought in. Best animal hospital/ vet ever. Staff was amazing and so caring. My cat was hit by a car a few weeks ago left with life threatening injuries. We brought him to rau animal hospital and they were there for me in such a bad time. My cat had to be put to sleep, and the staff gave us lots of time and kept us fully informed on the condition of my cat. I went an hour before closing and was not rushed or anything. My cat and I were treated with love and respect. One of the staff members even came out and hugged me as we left. A few days later we received a kind card from them. We all have those moments that just drag on for hours, the ones that are so horrifying that you play them over and over in your head to think of what you could have done differently. For me, this most recent moment involved saying "sure," when a friend asked to hold my tiny 6lb puppy. This highly intelligent friend then proceeded to drop the puppy straight on his head from a height of about 3.5 feet. Thud. I was too far away to catch him but saw the whole thing. Rau's staff were so wonderful, caring and amazing. While trying to suppress my rising panic, I called a couple of places to figure out what to do. Rau came to mind. I had taken other dogs there, but not this new puppy (he's a visiting Oregonian). The receptionist saved me an appointment for a few hours later, but told me to head over right away. We got there in about 45 minutes and were taken back almost immediately. The doctor found a way to squeeze us in, which was just amazing. She took her time, listened to the whole story, and did a very thorough exam on the puppy. She was incredibly reassuring. By the end of the visit all of the wacky, wobbly walking and disoriented behavior were beginning to resolve. He ate some treats and didn't puke. The staff even called like 3 times later that week to check on my little guy, who is doing just fine! Pragmatically, I know that it's not like this visit would really have saved his life if he has been bleeding inside of his tiny dome piece, but the doc took my concerns seriously, made time to see the pup, and was so thorough and kind. She reassured me and told me specifically what to watch for, and where to take him if he got worse. I was really impressed by her dogside manner. I was also amazed by how inexpensive the urgent visit was. These people rock. They are the best. read more

I have been to a lot of vets in my lifetime, with many fur children. This is paws down the best vet I've been to. My dog LOVES to go there. The staff spoils her more than I do, which is a difficult task. She runs into the office instead of me having to coax and drag her in like I have other vets. She is very old and has many medical problems. Dr. Kirchhoffer and all the staff staff go above and beyond to work with me to keep her pain under control and her quality of life the highest possible. They are all kind and gentle with her. I travel a lot for work and have to leave her at the kennel. She has separation anxiety and hates when I'm not with her. Rau's kennel is the first place I've ever left her where she is happy. I know she is getting the highest quality of love and care and if she has any medical problems, they will call me immediately and take care of her as if she was their own dog. read more

I discovered Rau about 10 years ago when my cat needed urgent care on a Sunday morning and my regualr vet was closed. I didn't want to go all the way down to Penn (or pay their prices!) so I checked in the yellow pages for local vets with Sunday hours and Rau was closeby. What a find. The staff is always exceptionally friendly and professional. They have hours that should accomodate any schedule. I wasn't even unhappy with my previous vet but once I found Rau, I switched both my cats into their care. Every doctor I've ever seen has been great but Dr. Rosenblatt was the first to see my cat during an emergency so I request all well-visit appointments with her. My dog Nala was given a rough start to life, that in return created problems with her trusting strangers. I went to countless vets that hated seeing her and showed her no time of day. Rau animal hospital not only treats her with the utmost care and respect. But they actually take the time to make her feel comfortable and for me to feel comfortable. I would tell anyone 20 times out of 10 to use Rau. I have scheduled visits from a rash and ear infection. All the way to getting surgery for a dew claw removal and tooth removal. It does not matter the situation they treat you equal every time. From the front desk, to the nurses and the vets. Everyone is great. One last thing, Dr. Flasik is amazing! I cannot say my opinion has changed any. If anything after a recent surgery on my dog, I've learned how exceptional they are. Friends have told us how well this vet has done with their pet. One story of this vet properly diagnosing an allergy after numerous amounts of money were spent elsewhere to no avail. But, what did it was my wife being distraught over the surgery and the care the staff took with her and our dog. We travel 40 minutes to see the staff at RAU - so they must be good! The vets and techs are very, very kind to our dog who is fearful at the vet (like cowering under the chair with her ears back fearful - not just doesn't like it). Lately, we've been seeing Dr Cohen and Dr Berardino, and we've been very happy. The exam rooms are always clean, the waiting room is big enough - though the design leaves a little to be desired. All traffic has to squeeze in and out of a door in front of the desk - so fingers crossed no one is aggressive, or has anything they could share when walking by someone. The prices are reasonable-ish, on the higher side, but for the flexibility in hours, the care and attention from the techs, and the ability to make a last minute appointment, I'll pay for it. read more

Rau rocks! There are plenty of helpful vets which helps when scheduling appointments. The techs and the desk folks are super nice. And they never pressure me into services I don't want or ask for. I hate going to vets who make me feel like an abusive criminal for not brushing my (spastic) cat's teeth. They also have a very affordable boarding kennel for dogs and cats on site. My college student son took in a cat from the streets of N Philadelphia. He took her to the SPCA where I told him to bring a stool sample (she will be coming to my house with my cats for the holidays). They told him they would just 'worm her anyway' and never ran the sample! Then they told him she was too feral and got mad when they tried to pill her so gave it to him to put in her food. Of course, the cat licked the food off and my son then accidentally washed the pill down the drain. We found Rau though a google search and are so glad we did! I called and explained the situation and they got her in the next day. They wormed her and ran the stool sample, and of course, she had a parasite. They offered to give the starter dose of medicine if he brought her in when he came to get the meds, so my son could see how it was done, and they pre-measured every dose for the rest of the course. They also noted a heart murmur that the SPCA did not mention. Rau has been wonderful, and their prices have been reasonable for the services they've provided so far. After discovering a lump on my dog, Shadow's, neck, I was worried. Our current vet at the time was ok to go to for normal routine care, vaccinations, etc. But I did not trust them enough with something that could have possibly been lymphoma. A fellow vet friend of mine had recommended Rau and I never plan to go back to the other place. Upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was how clean, organized and welcoming the place was. The receptionists and techs have always been really friendly and caring. Our doctor, Dr. Jill Rosenblatt, was incredibly diligent, knowledgeable and friendly. You couldn't ask for a better vet. Luckily, Shadow's lump turned out to be just a water cyst. Since he's also had chronic ear infections his whole life, Dr. Jill took a look at him and recommended some treatment, antibiotics and a change in diet, suspecting that other vets had always been treating the symptoms, not the underlying cause: food allergies. While his ear infections can only be treated so much, he has certainly improved a TON since seeing her. She even helped my other dog, Pinot, who we adopted at the spca years earlier. Pinot had patches of fur missing, presumably from her former neglect. We took her home despite her appearances and had accepted the fact that her fur may never grow back. Recently, it started falling out more, so I took her to Dr. Jill. She did some bloodwork, noticed her thyroid level was low, and immediately called for a test for hypothyroidism. Her diagnosis was spot on, and after a few months of treatment, I have a much happier, more alert, playful dog who has since grown all her fur back! Incredible, considering we thought it would never happen. My pups have been back for various other reasons and the people there have always been incredibly helpful. They're very patient and answer all my questions and explain everything clearly and concisely. I can't really comment on their prices, since we have pet insurance. Our medical appointments are generally covered, so price isn't a major concern for us. And while the place is a bit of a hike for me coming from Manayunk, it is more than worth it. I love my pets dearly, and if a 20 minute car ride is the biggest obstacle in keeping them happy and healthy, then I consider myself lucky. read more

We've been to Rau with our cats, three times in the past two weeks. Our five year old kitty was an emergency visit, who we had to unexpectedly, put down. Dr Bishop was the vet who took care of our kitty. She was great with him and with us. We saw Dr Rosenblatt with our older kitten and she was really nice. Dr Beradino took care of our older kitty and she too, was great. All three vets, the techs, the office staff...they have been prenominal. Feline Leukemia sucks. This practice may be a little more expensive than others, but they have great hours, great vets and great staff. *We brought in our one kitty because she was sick. I cannot say enough how great the vets and techs are. The vet called me herself, with results of our kitty's chest xray. She patiently explained the results and answered all of my questions. This is the best veterinary practice, I have ever been to. We prefer Rau, to Rau Too. But the vets work out of both locations. read more

The way a business should be run. I am a first time dog owner, just moved to the area. My dog is just under 2 years. He suddenly became lethargic and not eating with vomiting and diarrhea. I went here based on a friends recommendation. This Vet is the way I would hope a Vet would be run. Everyone so nice, the Doctor was very accommodating and answered all my questions. They would call every day to see how he was doing and make suggestions based on any changes. It took over a week and a half and antibiotics for him to get back to good, but they continued to call daily to check on him. The place is clean and well laid out. I really did not realize Veterinarian places like this existed, but I am very happy I found them. I will be going here and recommending for as long as I am a pet owner. read more

Bad experience here. The part time Vet told me my dog had a fractured tooth. I had not noticed because he was not in any pain, no swelling or any changes to his eating routine. They did the surgery to remove it but failed to tell me that this would be extremely stressful for my nine year old dog. He had the surgery and had two teeth removed. Three days later he developed profuse bloody diarrhea. They called in a prescription for Metronidazole. That cleared up his diarrhea. He went back a week later for a check up and gums looked great. But three weeks later I brought him back and they looked at him again. Still looked good but he has been lethargic, depressed, and would not use his mouth to pick up a toy. I was curious as to why he had this behavior? The office manager spoke to me but she didn't know because she is not a Vet. They said another Vet would call me on his lunch break and never called. They said he would call me the next day but he did not call. When I called back they said I would need a new appointment with a different Vet. I said forget it. I said I will get a different appointment with a different Vet Hospital. In my opinion if a Veterinarian does not know why my dog is acting a certain way, the proper response would be I don't know but I can find out for you and call you back. How hard is that? It is called customer service! read more
