I don't mind people not having a permanent smile, I can have a RBF myself, I get it. But my husband ordered a table side martini and this comes with a personal interaction with getting your custom martini at the table and I promise you there is nothing she wanted to do less with her day than make a drink at our table, and had no clue what she was doing. She was just potion mixing reminiscent of things I did in the pantry as a kid. She didn't know what to ask that he wanted and was just dumping a little of this, a little of that. He tried to make conversation because she's literally there kneeled at our table doing this, and supposed to be asking for preference on the drink, but not really saying anything. He asked "Do your friends always have you making the drinks because you know how to make good ones?" Her response was a deadpan "My friends are poor." Well. That's awkward. We didn't know what to say to that. When she was done mixing things she realized she hadn't made enough to include a sidecar which is part of this custom drink order. So what did she do? She mixed a bit of this and that again from the random pretty little bottles on her tray with no mind to what was actually being concocted and it was 100% different than what was in the glass. It was even a different color. The drinks made by the actual bar were good, but the server was so dismissive that it was just annoying to ask for anything. The second time we had a different server and he was very pleasant and as attentive as he could be, given the random massive crowd that appeared around our 6pm reservation time. The whole point of Powder Room is to relax and have an intimate, no phone experience, and this requires a reservation. For some reason they decided to let in some random 30 person wedding party or something that had no reservations and just stood basically with their butts in the face of all the seated reservations. It was such a loud volume in there that the server couldn't even hear us and brought the wrong drink. We decided it was too much and left. They did apologize stating they didn't know this was going to happen. Well, you have control over letting people in and this was a choice. I get there was money to be made off a large, random group, but it was at the expense of us as locals wanting to come back again.

Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. When you walk in, it's a very dark and moody interior with small tables. They led us to a private room in the back which perfectly fit the six of us. Their menu is very creative, with unique names and unique ingredients. I don't like alcohol, so I was super happy to see an entire section dedicated to zero proof mocktails. I ordered the 5 AM somewhere which was a matcha based mocktail. It still had a bitter taste to it, perhaps from the Lyres Rosso. But the entire experience was so creative, led by our server/bartender Martin. He was a lot of fun and made the experience that much better. He was personable and funny and felt like we were hanging out with an old friend. Highly recommend if you're looking for a more chill vibe on 6th Street!

The color hues subtly change which gives the space a cool ambiance. I happened to be out on a Monday night and decided to stop by for a night cap. When I walked in, I was the only patron. Chad was behind the bar and he was extremely nice and very personable. I started with the Green Reviver #2. It was a melon twist on the classic Corpse Reviver #2 and it was good! I really enjoyed the chive oil. I followed with the House Negroni. This was hands down the best Negroni that I've ever had. The strawberry twist on it elevated it! I finished with a mocktail. I told Chad to surprise me and he made an NA version of the Yellow Margarita. I enjoyed this and it was refreshing! I mentioned to Chad that I like clarified cocktails so he made me a sample of the Clarified Piña Colada. It was really good! The melon and lemongrass gave it an interesting flavor. I was fortunate enough to return a few weeks later. Freya was working behind the bar and he was just as nice and personable as Chad. I tried the Blue Clover Club. I loved the flavors and presentation of this drink! The raspberry lemon foam was so good and added a nice texture! I also had a House Negroni because I enjoyed it so much the first time. I've only visited twice, but In Plain Sight is definitely one of my favorite cocktail bars in Austin. I can't remember whether it was described as dramatic as it showed up, but let me tell you there was drama! It was served in a flaming skull, garnished with beautiful flowers and fresh fruit, and filled to the brim with God knows how much alcohol and juice, but it was a time! To heighten the experience, he sprinkled something in a shaker and the flames just erupted! The whole restaurant stopped and I cackled! To put out the flame, Noah gave one dramatic clap, and the flame disappear disappeared! What happened to the Speakeasy I used to love going to? What happened to the Speakeasy that was the #1 bar in Austin when I turned 21?! I graduated from the University of Texas in '99 and was down visiting from Dallas where I'm from since a friend of mine was speaking at the UT graduation ceremony the following afternoon and I suggested we go to where I loved going to my Senior Year at UT. The band performing downstairs wasn't a bad showing but could have been more creative than being called the Spacerockers, we decided to head up to the rooftop. It got even sillier almost every table we tried to take a seat at had a reserved sign on it. What is going to happen when this place is going to be standing only and no reservations show up? It's also rude I think to the bartenders since we all know how bottle service venues work. Hence I was a bartender when I was in college. Sadly the part that got to me was we wanted to watch the Lakers/Thunder game, we got to watch the first half and then during half time while I was at my seat surprisingly got one I saw someone who didn't even look like they were in work attire and just turn it off. Really? I said to my friends and we went to the bartenders and asked if they can turn it back on, and luckily the staff behind the bar decided to since we were fans of the Thunder, not to mention some other people were also watching the game and actually left the rooftop since they could not watch the game... it's playoffs you know? Sadly again I am waiting on another drink and then this young man who looks like he is still in college comes to the bar yells at the bartenders saying "Who turned the tv back on?! I said it has to be off and can never be on after 7". I wondered who the hell is this guy? Does he know what city he is? Does he know what University is in this city? What the heck would it be if UT was playing for the national championship in baseball in late june? We can't watch that at a bar? This is longhorn country thank you very much. Which is the common thing? I know this sounds ridiculous to be talking about this, but for a place that charges me $6.25 for cheap horrible vodka out of Kentucky and $5 for a Corona at a venue called "Speakeasy", I would like to get something out of my time there. These little things just tick me off, I don't know who this General Manager of yours is, but he isn't the kind of GM that would want running a venue like this, and there are some other things I noticed about this GM that I won't bother typing up here. Also get some more seating for non-bottle service guests on your rooftop, your cocktail waitresses need to stop acting bitchy if someone dares to sit down, also your drink menu is way too complex only 10 drinks and each are $9.50? FYI you are a high volume venue. Come on, there is no bar in Dallas that uses almost most of the ingredients on that menu. There is no excuse for the bartenders working hard, because when there are problems with a venue, it's not the employees, it all starts at the top, and that looks like management. So Speakeasy owner, owners, management group, whatever, if you read this, please bring the old speakeasy back. I don't like people bashing on places that I enjoy going to when I'm back in my other hometown, because this place used to be 5 stars. read more

Visited Speakeasy during SXSW 2025 and had a great time! This multi-level venue has something for everyone. Each floor offers a different vibe--live music downstairs, a lively kabaret room in the middle, and a rooftop terrace with great downtown views. The SXSW programming brought in a diverse mix of performances, from indie bands to late-night DJs. It was easy to bounce between rooms and catch something new on each floor. The rooftop was a perfect spot to take a breather and enjoy the city lights between sets. Drinks were decent--service was fast considering the crowds. It got busy during peak hours, but the staff handled it well. The crowd was high-energy and friendly, with a good mix of locals and SXSW attendees. The venue of speakeasy itself was pleasant. All of that was ruined by the asshole that ran the bar. Him and his coworker who didn't say a word the entire time. Basically he was fucked up during his shift and complaining about working the entire time. He messed up our order several times and then proceeded to loose my girlfriends card and blame it on her. He then got in a yelling match with us and told multiple people to fuck off. He after badmouthing us to all the customers one of our friends noticed the credit card in the fucking sink because he dropped it in his dumbfuck dope induced confusion. If you want a great bar where you won't get your drinks on time or if at all and get screamed at by the bartender then look no farther. I will never come back neither will my friends as long as that simple minded moron works there. Pathetic customer service read more

Pretty cool venue for Austin, and as one of the more noted and advertised places I felt like there was some history here that I wasn't necessarily aware of - but could appreciate. Multiple levels, the street level has the expected Austin live music show which was pretty good. The performer wasn't really my style but as a venue it was pretty well setup. Second floor was locked, so I didn't see anything for the upstairs that looks over the street level. The rooftop feels like Las Vegas. It's got canopies and couches, with the DJ in the center of everything facing the bar. Pretty cool! Drinks weren't especially strong or watery. All in all, speakeasy is a pretty darn cool place. That being said it does have it's drawbacks. The good: lots of space-the bar has 3 floors, including a really awesome rooftop! The rooftop is really nice during cool weather and you get a nice breeze. The downstairs floor has high ceilings and often has a great band playing. And how cool is the bowling alley on the second floor? Crowd is usually a bit older, not too many UT kids come here. The bad: drinks aren't the cheapest here, and the service is hit or miss. I came here last night for a networking event for the PCMA convention, and had to join Yelp just to show my support for these guys! What a wonderful staff, and a gorgeous space. We danced like crazy to More Cowbell (and they even let us come on stage with them to hit the cowbell along with the song!!). They offered free bowling to PCMA Attendees, such a cool atmosphere. Then, we made our way up the astronomical amount of stairs to the top. The DJ was AWESOME, playing hit after hit, and the view of the city from the roof was stunning. Been here twice. Have no desire to go back. Overly expensive, even for downtown, and there's nothing special here to justify it. First time I went, the bartender was daydreaming and I had to wave at him to wake him out of it, and this was a busy Friday night with a shoulder-to-shoulder crowd and a live performance. Granted, it was just one bartender who may not even work there anymore. Regardless, I shouldn't have to pay more than six bucks for a lameass rum and coke. Disappointed. I know it s a pretty popular bar in downtown area, so finally after being in Austin for over 2 years I decided to go and was absolutely disappointed. It s just one of the huge rooftop bars with very expensive not so good drinks. I mean, there s nothing for me to even write about, but bartenders seemed bored and absolutely inattentive, it took them over 30 to get a drink, again expensive $7.50 and not good. So much to do at Speakeasy! The first floor is generally for live music, dancing, and drinks. The second floor features pool tables, shuffleboard, bowling, and of course another bar. If you are willing to venture up the neverending staircase, there are outdoor areas with music/DJs and a more intense dancing area. It's a great place to go to see live acts, especially during SXSW, etc. Nothing is really overpriced and there is something to do for most anyone who walks in. read more

Easily my favorite spot in the area by far, it has a welcoming almost cozy but fun vibe. They've got a bowling alley, billiards, ping pong and foosball tables, and shuffleboard. Just about everything you could ask for in a location, and the cover band and DJ were both fantastic. The rooftop terrace was really the cherry on top of an already positive experience here. Karen (Event Coordinator) was very helpful and had everything set up and ready to go by the time all of the employees arrived. Every review here says 7 dollars cover, however every time I've gone its been 10, door people are rude, bartenders are inattentive, and waitress are slow, drinks are expensive, and the crowd, well lets just say non of them would survive a class uprising. However, if you don't want to pay ten dollars to be hassled all night by the management for only ordering one drink, I'd reccomend you take your hard-earned money elsewhere. Wow so they advertise 3 floors, they block off floors for private parties and the comics are horrible!! They are only there to give SHOCK jokes which means horrible racist, anti-semitic, homophobic jokes. So instead of actual humor it's just let's offend people. A above average bar downtown. The best part is the rooftop with a view and the bowling. That's right drunk bowling! It's a good place to bring out of town people to for a couple drinks. A DJ was spinning tunes in lighted enclosure...almost like a home porch. In fact, there several women literally dancing on a table. Interestingly, one may man was dancing by himself with a pole as his dance partner. Perhaps he had too much to drink at this point. We stayed there for a short while and we were off to another one of my friend's favorite places. She ran into a couple of folks she knew while we were at Latchkey. So we chatted for a bit. This place is a whole vibe and then some.

The main area is a good size and shape for larger groups. I appreciated that the music was not too loud to chat with your date. The restrooms are very clean and nice. The outdoor area in back was the biggest surprise. They have a nice, covered area with new outdoor furniture that is equipped with a pool table. Revenge is a hidden treasure. I recommend it for a relaxed, elegant evening.

It was hard to hear people talking inside so we went outside to enjoy their outside patio area and easier to hear conversations. Overall, I thought it was a nice bar with a cool vibe, interesting cocktail options, and various types of seating options.
