After shopping around for wedding photographers local to the LA area that seemed to be quite…read morepricey, we started to look at Chicago locals for comparison and stumbled upon Choice Photos run by the sojuman / kid chinggu himself, Chong Choi. Upon initial meet, we had explained kind of what we were looking for and Chong was pretty receptive and able to send over some sample work of his right away to convince us he was the guy for the job. Impressed with both his ability to capture the moment and his wide variety of shots, we booked him right away as his prices were very reasonable compared to a lot of LA photographers we were looking at (including additional travel costs to get him to come to LA and shoot our big day). We first met up with Chong and his assistant Alex to have them shoot our engagement photos at Milton Lee Olive Park & Navy Pier. It was definitely a good practice shoot to work on posing, angles, and break the ice as being photographed isn't the most natural thing. Definitely got plenty of good shots and ended up using one of our favorites for the save the date cards. Fast forward to the big day in Pasadena, CA, Chong and his assistant Kevin were very professional and very much in their element. My wife and I couldn't be any happier with the quality of shots we got from the getting ready photos, to first looks, to detailed shots, some group shots at city hall, and the plenty of photos throughout the ceremony. As a multimedia artist/performer, I needed someone who could capture my spirit while also embracing their own style. During our photoshoot, Chong was able to direct his vision clearly while also leaving space for my input and preferences. Together, with two brilliant lighting assistants, Chong executed the most efficient, experimental, and visually-pleasing photoset I have ever witnessed. It was truly a pleasure to see an experienced photographer operate. We shot in Oz Park, Chicago IL. It was windy, after sunset, and everyone was running on a tight schedule. Chong weaved through these potential issues expertly. By utilizing a divine intuition of light and subject, Chong easily directed his lighting team and my poses. We finished the shoot in less than two hours and I was emailed the pictures the very next day (with the appropriate watermarks to boot)! I was referred to Maha Studios by a friend and was quite nervous as they are based out of Chicago…read moreand I was getting married in Pittsburgh, PA. I knew it would be hard to coordinate travel, meetings etc, due to the distance and I was certainly the bride that wanted to meet and get to know her vendors prior to booking them.   On the initial call, both Zainab and Aaqib were very kind and answered all of my questions regarding price, travel, different packages and hours and everything that would be included. I felt very comfortable moving forward with a team I hadn't met, only having seen their work on their website or social media accounts.   I knew I wanted to work with a company that was an expert South Asian weddings. In Pittsburgh, there aren't many (if any) photographers/videographers that focus or know the South Asian wedding traditions and photography was my husband and I's number one priority. Knowing that the Maha team has extensive experience and almost exclusively works on South Asian weddings made us feel even more comfortable in our decision to work with them.   Maha Studios included a free one hour engagement session if my husband and I visited Chicago prior to getting married. That didn't end up happening, BUT they were kind enough to drive to Pittsburgh the day before the wedding weekend and use that one hour to photograph my Mayoon event! They drove to the location, set everything up and took tons of amazing shots and video that were used in my wedding trailer.   Zainab, Aaqib and Raheel (associate videographer) worked with me the entire weekend (and suggested a few timeline changes, etc) to make sure everything went smoothly. I loved that they made time for both me AND my husband to get "getting ready" shots and made me feel comfortable in front of the camera (otherwise I am so awkward!). I asked them to focus on family members and after seeing the final photos and video, I can see that they definitely did.  They blended in and zipped around like crazy the entire weekend, while I was making sure they had food to eat and a comfortable hotel room!   Post wedding: WOW. JUST WOW. My husband and I are blown away by the photos that Zainab took and the trailer and final video that Aaqib and Raheel filmed. The photo quality is amazing, the photo album we received is beautiful, the trailer is perfect and the 3 hour long video has been playing nonstop. Aaqib responded to all of my requests on minor changes to the video on the same day and confirmed the changes were made. The follow up from everyone was incredible and I cannot wait to use Maha Studios again!

Being the ultimate planner I looked into newborn photos a few months before my baby girl even made…read moreher debut into this crazy world. A few friends had passed on contact info for their favorite photographers around Chicagoland. I checked them all out and was shocked to see that most of them were around $500 for newborn photos, which at the time seemed a bit crazy to me since I think all newborns look alike. Or at least I used to think that until I gave birth to the cutest newborn ever...yeah, you could say I'm a bit biased. ;) I was also surprised that some of these photographers were booked 6 months out. Apparently there are people out there who plan even earlier than I do! I recalled that some friends had used Jen Soares for adorable pics of their kiddies so decided to shoot her an email. Jen had a few openings a few weeks after my baby's due date and she was $100 for a newborn session, which even includes a CD of all the final photos. I booked her immediately! When my baby was 2 weeks old Jen and her husband, Mike, showed up for our scheduled appointment with their cameras in hand. The baby was having a bit of a meltdown...and my hubby and I were doing our best to calm her down.Meanwhile, Jen and Mike worked their photographer magic and started snapping away! They were in and out within 30 minutes (which was about all we could handle at the time). Fortunately, in this short amount of time they managed to take a ton of cute photos of the baby alone, family shots and even of our pu! After they left I was a bit worried we wouldn't get any cute ones for a birth announcement since she was so hysterical, but we had so many good ones to choose from that I ended up using 4 photos on the birth announcement! While Jen has only been available on the weekends in the past, she just started doing photography full-time so she'll now be available during the week days as well. She mentioned in 2011 she'll be charging $100 for week days and $150 for weekends, which is still quite the deal. It's such a great deal that I'm planning on having her come back to take more photos every few months. And hopefully our baby will greet Jen and Mike with a smile next time!

I really liked the fact that she came to our condo to take the photographs. She showed up on time and started working right away so we got our full hour with her. It was definitely worth the money. We had some photo ideas/poses in mind and Jen suggested some as well and we just winged the rest. We LOVE how the pictures turned out and will treasure them always.
