Our son has learned far more this year than we ever expected. He's explored planets, animals, letters, music, reading, sensory play, and so much more. Thanks to all the great reviews here on Yelp and also a referral from one of my very good friends we decided to go with Mustard Seed as a place for my daughter to grow. She was 4 years old when she started and was very, very shy and was nervous. But it did not take her long to warm up and get comfortable with her super sweet classmates and the wonderful staff. The following year she continued onto TK and flourished into this bright intelligent little girl. The teachers at Mustard Seed did such an amazing job teaching the all the students and preparing them for Kindergarten. My daughter is currently in 2nd grade and is reading at the 6th grade level and I can't imagine her advancing to this level of education if it weren't for Mustard Seed. Fast forward - I needed child care for my youngest son as I prepared to go back to work and so thankful they have a toddler program I was able to enroll my son in at 18 months old. They love and care for all the children like it were their own and this gives us parents a peace of mind. He is now 3 1/2 years old and graduated to the preschool room where he absolutely loves to learn and play with his classmates that he calls, his best friends.

My son was actively engaged every day with painting, dancing, growing plants, cooking lessons, and story time. By 18 months, my son knew four colors, spoke in 3-4 word meaningful sentences, asked questions, had a vocabulary of well over 100 words, could name a dozen animals and their sounds, played pretend, and could identify a word on each page of his favorite books. He cleaned up his toys when asked, apologized when he hurt someone, said please and thank you, and even cleared his own dishes and wiped his spot at the table after dinner. That kind of independence and empathy at such a young age was extraordinary--and entirely due to the care and structure Miss Cassie provided. By age 4, my son was reading, writing his name, cutting complex shapes, counting to 100, and could name all the planets in the solar system along with their characteristics, among many other advanced skills. If you want your child to gain lifelong social-emotional skills and enter kindergarten well above grade level, this is the place. There were few red flags at the beginning, but being new parents, we kind of brushed them off. Big mistake: 1) Ms Claudia tried to change the diaper of our 1yr old daughter. She tired to have her lay down on a changing pad, which our little one would have none of it. Our girl was hysterically crying and trying to break free from this woman who has "extensive experience". We couldn't believe what we were seeing: Ms Claudia totally ignored our girls hysterical crying, and continued her "left-right" story as if this is normal. It is not normal. My wife made sure to let her know that our little one has never cried like this, not even during her vaccine shots! 2) During one of our visits, we heard barking from one of the rooms, and were told that one of the dogs recently gave birth that there were 6 puppies. I love dogs, but 6 puppies + 2 adult dogs in a fairly tight indoor space is not ideal when toddlers are trying to nap. We made sure to read the Parent Handbook and fill out the forms and pre-pay for the first month tuition, even though we were just starting the 4-week Trial Period. Our child only attended 2 days (in the Trial Period). I informed Ms Claudia that we will not continue further, and only ask that we are refunded for the pre-paid monthly tuition ($1,995). In her Parent Handbook (pg 14) it clearly states the following: "At any time during the four (4) week trial period, if the provider or family feels that this is not a suitable arrangement for the child, the contract can be terminated by either party without penalty, notice, or specific reason. The security deposit will be refunded in full and the family will only be responsible to pay for the days attended." Totally reasonable. We had no problem paying for the 2 (gentle days) she attended along with the non-refundable registration fee. But there is a catch! When I brought up the tuition refund, I was informed that the "tuition" is non-refundable. A tuition paid for a month in advance, where my child never attended a single day. You've gotta be kidding me! I will seek legal advice since this is clearly breach of the contract we signed with conflicting details.

My partner and I started the application process in August, which included a facility visit and the longest written application ever. But we were happy to submit any and everything if it meant an easy time for our toddler. The problem, however, was that after every step we completed, there was at least a two week period before Kay Fleming would get back to us. Often times, it was my partner and I who had to phone them down before providing any helpful information. We finally made it to submitting our pay stubs and as soon as we did, Kay ghosted us and we did not hear back from them for at least a month. We randomly get a call from Kay saying that the class was full and they were not accepting any more children. Two months pass and we receive a call from Circle of Friends stating that Kay Fleming no longer works there and they would love to pick up where we left in getting our daughter enrolled. They mentioned that they had our previous application but said it would be best to resubmit a new one. So we did. After a few days Lili (the young lady helping) calls me to inform me that we do not qualify for the subsidy price and that we would have to pay the $325 weekly. Not a big issue for us, but as I was breaking down the price to my partner as we considered our options, Lili sends me a text saying "we apologize for the inconvenience but we are only prioritizing families that qualify for subsidy and your daughter is no longer in consideration." Let me be clear - we were not checking for Circle of Friends after the experience with Kay Fleming. I honestly believe there was some financial discrimination involved that I assumed was a reflection of Kay, but after having a similar experience with Lili, it is clear this is an organizational issue that has waisted our time. If you are looking for care for your children, please look elsewhere and this place is incredibly unprofessional.

You're welcomed by a lovely paper tree and library when you walk in. There's an infant room, a 1 year old class, and a room for the bigger kids too. And they have a beautiful playground filled with toys the kids can enjoy as soon as they're mobile enough! Heidy (the owner) is incredible. She's picked a staff of women who just love kids. They are all so kind and caring. And it's such a bonus that they're all Spanish speakers- my daughter learned so much Spanish from them! I was so nervous to bring my daughter anywhere when she was 3 months old- but now I can't imagine her being anywhere else. From the second I walked in the door, Heidy and her staff set my mind at ease. The communication and photo updates throughout the day kept me in the loop. I was a nervous first time daycare mom, and Heidy eased all those fears. All too soon, my daughter started reaching for the daycare workers when we got there. They listened and they were very prompt in action and because of that I was able to swiftly transition my LO to a safer environment, where the healing process could begin. They were patient during my untold amount of questions and follow up questions about, nap time, drop off, pick up, curriculum, food time, etc. And though we may not be as established, as are their other families, I see my LO's personality starting to come back out and that only happens when a child feels safe. The boisterous outgoing social butterfly that had reverted back to their chrysalis and then to caterpillar before starting this program, has started the cycle over. Being supported and included by the staff and teachers, I suspect the reemergence to be even more beautiful than before. All learned behaviors created by the previous experience can be worked as time go on, until then I know my child is safe, seems happy and enjoys the time spent there.
