I had already taken a significant loss of about $35,000 during the market downturn in the fall of 2022. Around that time, I heard about Talon from a radio program and decided to give them a try. I met with a local representative, John, who reviewed my numbers and projected a 12-15% return on my investments. I decided to move forward and invested $228,000 with them in October 2022. What I wasn't told--and what I later learned--was that I could have simply left my existing investments in place and had Talon take over as the manager. Instead, all of my prior investments were liquidated, and everything was restarted from scratch. In 2023, my portfolio returned just 4%, after fees. I had been told their fee would be 1% annually, but I frequently raised concerns throughout the year because half of my money was just sitting idle in a money market fund. By the second year, I was still dissatisfied. I raised my concerns again in the fall, which led to some adjustments--but 2024's return dropped to just 2.6%. I then discovered I was actually being charged 2% per year in fees--not the 1% I was originally told. When I brought this up, they wanted to schedule a meeting to "look into it." At that point, I had already made up my mind to leave. I genuinely believe my account wasn't large enough for them to care about managing it properly.
