Finally did some more looking and found out they've been closed for a year. Very disappointed as I was looking forward to an American breakfast.

By far my favourite aspect about Alabama's is that it's not trying too hard to be 'American Style'…read moreit doesn't feel like one of the bandwagon American burger or hot dog joints popping up all over the city. It's just casually American or you could say it has a more intelligent nod to Americana in it's decor and attitude but maintain's a Northern attitude. Like the straight out of Mad Men 1960s Piccadilly Station print on the wall, the wooden star clock on the opposite wall or the red light shades. We went for breakfast and the selection was familiar but pleasantly different. With selections of classic breakfasts which could be Americanised with Texas toast for e.g. (I didn't see any grits which I'd love to see their take on). I had the Eggs Benedict with Ham Hock, it's one of those dishes which is a great judge of a place as it only has a few ingredients any one of which can disappoint. Alabama's was spot on. In fact I'm thinking that the ham hock possibly works better than streak bacon which I hate myself for saying, but it's less salty and gives it a more rustic homey feel. Which I really enjoyed. I love my coffee and I can say their flat white was spot on for me. The staff seem great here as well, very welcoming and friendly, offering to give suggestions or anwser any questions about the food. There aren't a huge number of places even in the city centre where I can guarantee a good breakfast and a great coffee in the same spot. I'm glad to have found another to add to my list.

I have been to this place twice and have had no complaints yet! Although, I wish they would have some paper towels but I know they can be wasteful and they do give a wet sanitized hankies to you to clean up that BBQ of your fingers but no need to have that go to waste just use tour lips! So much flavor on their secret sauce yum and if that is not enough, you have 5 BBQ added sauces to choose from at your table. Baby back ribs just can't get enough and the Dirty Chicken burger there are no words for how soft and tender the meat is as you bite down on all the flavors of the bbq, the slaw and the candy bacon. Oh did I say bacon YES bless yourself with some of the pig on your next meal here. Great place, food and people. Right across the street from the city center.

Barely any sauce. The ribs were decent - definitely not fall off the bone type, but okay tasting. I asked for sweet potato fries, even with an upgrade charge, but alas, the service wasn't the best. So I got the regular fries - which were probably my favorite part of the meal. They were the thinner kind so not the typical "chips" - which I like! The BBQ sauces - 5 choices - I didn't care for any of them. The tangy coleslaw also wasn't a hit with me. $20 or so for the ribs/wings meal & a large Pepsi max.

Originally seeming to be named New Yorker Diner, it doesn't have a diner vibe, so instead is now presenting itself as American Street Food, serving burgers, waffles and chicken, gourmet burgers, and some other American sides too, as well as milkshakes and Belgian Waffles. It doesn't have a huge range, but what it has it does well. As you descend the steps into the diner itself, it's got that industrial look that most of the Northern Quarter is doing at the moment, complete with bare brick walls, wood cladding, and filament bulbs. Definitely not the Ed's Easy Diner style 50's American diner. Also, it's not a full service restaurant, but in fact a counter-service place with a dining area. The menu is simple but appetising, with some really tasty offerings and at a price that is very reasonable for Manchester City Centre, especially with some of the lunch deals available. I went to the counter and ordered the "American Boy" burger with fries and a Cherry Coke. The friendly staff member gave me a flashing/buzzing box similar to what you get when waiting for seating at big chain restaurants on a Saturday night, and said it would buzz/flash when my meal was ready for me to collect. Handy. The food was ready, and what I got was very tasty indeed. The burger, although not pink, was cooked through, but still juicy, and the trimmings were perfect, although the 'Brooklyn Sauce' built up spice pretty quickly for me, so I'd probably skip that next time. The fries were really good! Properly hot and crisp, and seasoned perfectly meaning the sachets of salt I picked up were never touched! New Yorker is a simple affair, offering good simple food when you want it, at a good price. I'd go again

It is a little random in terms of the music that's played (club classics mixed in with dance hall and r&b) plus impromptu aerial acrobatics mid meal (I'm not complaining it was entertaining but random..). The venue itself is stunning, it feels high end without the stupid prices and there's a separate bar area so you can pop in for drinks only if you want. Drinks aren't pricey either. There are plenty of awesome photo opportunities and a selfie booth for those that way inclined. Me included dependant on how I'm feeling! The clientele are mixed, you definitely have the playboy and wag types but you can't escape them in places like this. Think neighbourhood. The food was DELICIOUS and the staff are very knowledgable. I tried cauliflower steak for the first time and it was seasoned perfectly, huge portions too. The affogato was a work of art, I can't fault anything we ate and at 50% off, kaching! The service was a little random but the charming waiter made up for it. A recommendation to management, if you're going to have artists performing try and give them a private space to change. We kept seeing girls changing in the staff toilets which are visible to customers and prancing around the dining area in leotards, it would be way more professional if they just emerged, performed and gracefully left. They should be a subtle enhancement to the dining experience, not a questionable distraction. With some tweaking this could be a 5 star dining experience. I think it's got potential to offer LA style supper club service but they need to smooth the edges.

First of all, how loud does the music have to be in order for them to legally have to provide free ear plugs? I guess I'm showing my age now but I just couldn't hear myself think in here - so I was unable to decide what I wanted when I walked in (aside from the nearest exit). I used to drink in here several times a week, when I worked at Rock Radio round the corner. This was an institution to be reckoned with, back in the day and it was known as the Exchange Bar and Grill. Now I don't know what to call it as there are signs saying both 'Matchstick Man' and 'Hungry Horse'. Don't think the staff know either but it's turned into some sort of chav-den better suited to the back streets of Blackpool, full of women wearing underwear two-sizes-too-small and blokes with tattooed faces. It's obviously become a haven for the deadbeats drifting in from the nearby estate. So yes, it was an unpleasant half hour, while I waited for my pal to drain her glass. The DJ talked over most of the horrendous tunage that was blasting through the speakers and my tram couldn't come quickly enough. If you want a relaxing drink and conversation where you don't have to shout across the table, just keep walking and head to The Dockyard.
